गिआनु स्रेसट ऊतम इसनानु ॥
The most sublime wisdom and purifying baths;
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
Chaar Padhaarathh Kamal Pragaas ||
चारि पदारथ कमल प्रगास ॥
The four cardinal blessings, the opening of the heart-lotus;
ਸਭ ਕੈ ਮਧਿ ਸਗਲ ਤੇ ਉਦਾਸ ॥
Sabh Kai Madhh Sagal Thae Oudhaas ||
सभ कै मधि सगल ते उदास ॥
In the midst of all, and yet detached from all;
ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਤਤ ਕਾ ਬੇਤਾ ॥
Sundhar Chathur Thath Kaa Baethaa ||
सुंदरु चतुरु तत का बेता ॥
Beauty, intelligence, and the realization of reality;
ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥
Samadharasee Eaek Dhrisattaethaa ||
समदरसी एक द्रिसटेता ॥
Hese blessings come to one who chants the Naam with his mouth,
ਇਹ ਫਲ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਨੇ ॥

इह फल तिसु जन कै मुखि भने ॥
These blessings come to one who, through Guru Nanak,
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਚਨ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਨੇ ॥੬॥
Gur Naanak Naam Bachan Man Sunae ||6||
गुर नानक नाम बचन मनि सुने ॥६॥
And hears the Word with his ears through Guru Nanak. ||6||
ਇਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਪੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥
Eihu Nidhhaan Japai Man Koe ||
इहु निधानु जपै मनि कोइ ॥
One who chants this treasure in his mind
ਸਭ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Sabh Jug Mehi Thaa Kee Gath Hoe ||
सभ जुग महि ता की गति होइ ॥
In every age, he attains salvation.
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Gun Gobindh Naam Dhhun Baanee ||
गुण गोबिंद नाम धुनि बाणी ॥
In it is the Glory of God, the Naam, the chanting of Gurbani.
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਬਖਾਣੀ ॥
Simrith Saasathr Baedh Bakhaanee ||
सिम्रिति सासत्र बेद बखाणी ॥
The Simritees, the Shaastras and the Vedas speak of it.
ਸਗਲ ਮਤਾਂਤ ਕੇਵਲ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
Sagal Mathaanth Kaeval Har Naam ||
सगल मतांत केवल हरि नाम ॥
The essence of all religion is the Lord's Name alone.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਗਤ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
Gobindh Bhagath Kai Man Bisraam ||
गोबिंद भगत कै मनि बिस्राम ॥
It abides in the minds of the devotees of God.
ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੈ ॥
Kott Apraadhh Saadhhasang Mittai ||
कोटि अप्राध साधसंगि मिटै ॥
Millions of sins are erased, in the Company of the Holy.
ਸੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੈ ॥
Santh Kirapaa Thae Jam Thae Shhuttai ||
संत क्रिपा ते जम ते छुटै ॥
By the Grace of the Saint, one escapes the Messenger of Death.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
Jaa Kai Masathak Karam Prabh Paaeae ||
जा कै मसतकि करम प्रभि पाए ॥
Those, who have such pre-ordained destiny on their foreheads,
ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਆਏ ॥੭॥

साध सरणि नानक ते आए ॥७॥
O Nanak, enter the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||7||
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਨੈ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

जिसु मनि बसै सुनै लाइ प्रीति ॥
One, within whose mind it abides, and who listens to it with love
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
This Jan Aavai Har Prabh Cheeth ||
तिसु जन आवै हरि प्रभु चीति ॥
That humble person consciously remembers the Lord God.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥
Janam Maran Thaa Kaa Dhookh Nivaarai ||
जनम मरन ता का दूखु निवारै ॥
The pains of birth and death are removed.
ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥
Dhulabh Dhaeh Thathakaal Oudhhaarai ||
दुलभ देह ततकाल उधारै ॥
The human body, so difficult to obtain, is instantly redeemed.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
Niramal Sobhaa Anmrith Thaa Kee Baanee ||
निरमल सोभा अम्रित ता की बानी ॥
Spotlessly pure is his reputation, and ambrosial is his speech.
ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
Eaek Naam Man Maahi Samaanee ||
एकु नामु मन माहि समानी ॥
The One Name permeates his mind.
ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ॥
Dhookh Rog Binasae Bhai Bharam ||
दूख रोग बिनसे भै भरम ॥
Sorrow, sickness, fear and doubt depart.
ਸਾਧ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ॥
Saadhh Naam Niramal Thaa Kae Karam ||
साध नाम निरमल ता के करम ॥
He is called a Holy person; his actions are immaculate and pure.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬਨੀ ॥
Sabh Thae Ooch Thaa Kee Sobhaa Banee ||
सभ ते ऊच ता की सोभा बनी ॥
His glory becomes the highest of all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਗੁਣਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ॥੮॥੨੪॥

The first day of the lunar cycle: Bow in humility and meditate on the One, the Universal Creator Lord God.

Gun Gobindh Gupaal Prabh Saran Paro Har Raae ||
गुण गोबिंद गुपाल प्रभ सरनि परउ हरि राइ ॥
Praise God, the Lord of the Universe, the Sustainer of the World; seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸੁਖ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Thaa Kee Aas Kaliaan Sukh Jaa Thae Sabh Kashh Hoe ||
ता की आस कलिआण सुख जा ते सभु कछु होइ ॥
Place your hopes in Him, for salvation and peace; all things come from Him.

चारि कुंट दह दिसि भ्रमिओ तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥
I wandered around the four corners of the world and in the ten directions, but I saw nothing except Him.
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੁਨੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Baedh Puraan Simrith Sunae Bahu Bidhh Karo Beechaar ||
बेद पुरान सिम्रिति सुने बहु बिधि करउ बीचारु ॥
I listened to the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, and I pondered over them in so many ways.
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਭੈ ਹਰਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
Pathith Oudhhaaran Bhai Haran Sukh Saagar Nirankaar ||
पतित उधारन भै हरन सुख सागर निरंकार ॥
The Saving Grace of sinners, the Destroyer of fear, the Ocean of peace, the Formless Lord.
ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Dhaathaa Bhugathaa Dhaenehaar This Bin Avar N Jaae ||
दाता भुगता देनहारु तिसु बिनु अवरु न जाइ ॥
The Great Giver, the Enjoyer, the Bestower - there is no place at all without Him.
ਜੋ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥
Jo Chaahehi Soee Milai Naanak Har Gun Gaae ||1||
जो चाहहि सोई मिलै नानक हरि गुन गाइ ॥१॥
You shall obtain all that you desire, O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||

करउ बंदना अनिक वार सरनि परउ हरि राइ ॥
Bow in humility to the Lord, over and over again, and enter the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King.

The second day of the lunar cycle: Get rid of your evil-mindedness, and serve the Guru continually.
ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੀਤ ॥
Raam Rathan Man Than Basai Thaj Kaam Krodhh Lobh Meeth ||
राम रतनु मनि तनि बसै तजि कामु क्रोधु लोभु मीत ॥
The jewel of the Lord's Name shall come to dwell in your mind and body, when you renounce sexual desire, anger and greed, O my friend.
ਮਰਣੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸ ॥
Maran Mittai Jeevan Milai Binasehi Sagal Kalaes ||
मरणु मिटै जीवनु मिलै बिनसहि सगल कलेस ॥
Conquer death and obtain eternal life; all your troubles will depart.
ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥
