Naanak Kai Man Eihu Anaraao ||1||
नानक कै मनि इहु अनराउ ॥१॥
- this is the longing of Nanak's mind. ||1||
ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਨਾ ਜੋਗ ॥
Manasaa Pooran Saranaa Jog ||
मनसा पूरन सरना जोग ॥
He is the Fulfiller of wishes, who can give us Sanctuary;
ਜੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
Jo Kar Paaeiaa Soee Hog ||
जो करि पाइआ सोई होगु ॥
That which He has written, comes to pass.
ਹਰਨ ਭਰਨ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਫੋਰੁ ॥
Haran Bharan Jaa Kaa Naethr For ||
हरन भरन जा का नेत्र फोरु ॥
He destroys and creates in the twinkling of an eye.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਹੋਰੁ ॥
This Kaa Manthra N Jaanai Hor ||
तिस का मंत्रु न जानै होरु ॥
No one else knows the mystery of His ways.
ਅਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਦ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥
Anadh Roop Mangal Sadh Jaa Kai ||
अनद रूप मंगल सद जा कै ॥
He is the embodiment of ecstasy and everlasting joy.
ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਸੁਨੀਅਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥
Sarab Thhok Suneeahi Ghar Thaa Kai ||
सरब थोक सुनीअहि घरि ता कै ॥
I have heard that all things are in His home.
ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਗੀ ॥
Raaj Mehi Raaj Jog Mehi Jogee ||
राज महि राजु जोग महि जोगी ॥
Among kings, He is the King; among yogis, He is the Yogi.
ਤਪ ਮਹਿ ਤਪੀਸਰੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਭੋਗੀ ॥
Thap Mehi Thapeesar Grihasath Mehi Bhogee ||
तप महि तपीसरु ग्रिहसत महि भोगी ॥
Among ascetics, He is the Ascetic; among householders, He is the Enjoyer.
ਧਿਆਇ ਧਿਆਇ ਭਗਤਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Dhhiaae Dhhiaae Bhagatheh Sukh Paaeiaa ||
धिआइ धिआइ भगतह सुखु पाइआ ॥
By constant meditation, His devotee finds peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Naanak This Purakh Kaa Kinai Anth N Paaeiaa ||2||
नानक तिसु पुरख का किनै अंतु न पाइआ ॥२॥
O Nanak, no one has found the limits of that Supreme Being. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਲੀਲਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Jaa Kee Leelaa Kee Mith Naahi ||
जा की लीला की मिति नाहि ॥
There is no limit to His play.
ਸਗਲ ਦੇਵ ਹਾਰੇ ਅਵਗਾਹਿ ॥
Sagal Dhaev Haarae Avagaahi ||
सगल देव हारे अवगाहि ॥
All the demigods have grown weary of searching for it.
ਪਿਤਾ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੂਤੁ ॥
Pithaa Kaa Janam K Jaanai Pooth ||
पिता का जनमु कि जानै पूतु ॥
What does the son know of his father's birth?
ਸਗਲ ਪਰੋਈ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਸੂਤਿ ॥
Sagal Paroee Apunai Sooth ||
सगल परोई अपुनै सूति ॥
All are strung upon His string.
ਸੁਮਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਦੇਇ ॥
Sumath Giaan Dhhiaan Jin Dhaee ||
सुमति गिआनु धिआनु जिन देइ ॥
He bestows good sense, spiritual wisdom and meditation
ਜਨ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥
Jan Dhaas Naam Dhhiaavehi Saee ||
जन दास नामु धिआवहि सेइ ॥
On His humble servants and slaves who meditate on the Naam.
ਤਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥
Thihu Gun Mehi Jaa Ko Bharamaaeae ||
तिहु गुण महि जा कउ भरमाए ॥
He leads some astray in the three qualities;
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
Janam Marai Fir Aavai Jaaeae ||
जनमि मरै फिरि आवै जाए ॥
They are born and die, coming and going over and over again.
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਅਸਥਾਨ ॥
Ooch Neech This Kae Asathhaan ||
ऊच नीच तिस के असथान ॥
The high and the low are His places.
ਜੈਸਾ ਜਨਾਵੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਨ ॥੩॥
Jaisaa Janaavai Thaisaa Naanak Jaan ||3||
जैसा जनावै तैसा नानक जान ॥३॥
As He inspires us to know Him, O Nanak, so is He known. ||3||
ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਨਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ॥
Naanaa Roop Naanaa Jaa Kae Rang ||
नाना रूप नाना जा के रंग ॥
Many are His forms; many are His colors.
ਨਾਨਾ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕ ਰੰਗ ॥
Naanaa Bhaekh Karehi Eik Rang ||
नाना भेख करहि इक रंग ॥
Many are the appearances which He assumes, and yet He is still the One.
ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥
Naanaa Bidhh Keeno Bisathhaar ||
नाना बिधि कीनो बिसथारु ॥
In so many ways, He has extended Himself.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Prabh Abinaasee Eaekankaar ||
प्रभु अबिनासी एकंकारु ॥
The Eternal Lord God is the One, the Creator.
ਨਾਨਾ ਚਲਿਤ ਕਰੇ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Naanaa Chalith Karae Khin Maahi ||
नाना चलित करे खिन माहि ॥
He performs His many plays in an instant.
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਸਭ ਠਾਇ ॥
Poor Rehiou Pooran Sabh Thaae ||
पूरि रहिओ पूरनु सभ ठाइ ॥
The Perfect Lord is pervading all places.
ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਨਤ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
Naanaa Bidhh Kar Banath Banaaee ||
नाना बिधि करि बनत बनाई ॥
In so many ways, He created the creation.
ਅਪਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
Apanee Keemath Aapae Paaee ||
अपनी कीमति आपे पाई ॥
He alone can estimate His worth.
ਸਭ ਘਟ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਠਾਉ ॥
Sabh Ghatt This Kae Sabh This Kae Thaao ||
सभ घट तिस के सभ तिस के ठाउ ॥
All hearts are His, and all places are His.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥
Jap Jap Jeevai Naanak Har Naao ||4||
जपि जपि जीवै नानक हरि नाउ ॥४॥
Nanak lives by chanting, chanting the Name of the Lord. ||4||
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੰਤ ॥
Naam Kae Dhhaarae Sagalae Janth ||
नाम के धारे सगले जंत ॥
The Naam is the Support of all creatures.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ॥
Naam Kae Dhhaarae Khandd Brehamandd ||
नाम के धारे खंड ब्रहमंड ॥
The Naam is the Support of the earth and solar systems.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥
Naam Kae Dhhaarae Simrith Baedh Puraan ||
नाम के धारे सिम्रिति बेद पुरान ॥
The Naam is the Support of the Simritees, the Vedas and the Puraanas.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸੁਨਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ॥
Naam Kae Dhhaarae Sunan Giaan Dhhiaan ||
नाम के धारे सुनन गिआन धिआन ॥
The Naam is the Support by which we hear of spiritual wisdom and meditation.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਆਗਾਸ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥
Naam Kae Dhhaarae Aagaas Paathaal ||
नाम के धारे आगास पाताल ॥
The Naam is the Support of the Akaashic ethers and the nether regions.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਆਕਾਰ ॥
Naam Kae Dhhaarae Sagal Aakaar ||
नाम के धारे सगल आकार ॥
The Naam is the Support of all bodies.
ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਸਭ ਭਵਨ ॥
Naam Kae Dhhaarae Pureeaa Sabh Bhavan ||
नाम के धारे पुरीआ सभ भवन ॥
The Naam is the Support of all worlds and realms.
ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ॥
Naam Kai Sang Oudhharae Sun Sravan ||
नाम कै संगि उधरे सुनि स्रवन ॥
Associating with the Naam, listening to it with the ears, one is saved.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਨੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Jis Aapanai Naam Laaeae ||
करि किरपा जिसु आपनै नामि लाए ॥
Those whom the Lord mercifully attaches to His Naam
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥
Naanak Chouthhae Padh Mehi So Jan Gath Paaeae ||5||
नानक चउथे पद महि सो जनु गति पाए ॥५॥
- O Nanak, in the fourth state, those humble servants attain salvation. ||5||
ਰੂਪੁ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਤਿ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥
Roop Sath Jaa Kaa Sath Asathhaan ||
रूपु सति जा का सति असथानु ॥
His form is true, and true is His place.
ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਤਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
Purakh Sath Kaeval Paradhhaan ||
पुरखु सति केवल परधानु ॥
His personality is true - He alone is supreme.
ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
Karathooth Sath Sath Jaa Kee Baanee ||
करतूति सति सति जा की बाणी ॥
His acts are true, and true is His Word.
ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
Sath Purakh Sabh Maahi Samaanee ||
सति पुरख सभ माहि समाणी ॥
The True Lord is permeating all.
ਸਤਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਤਿ ॥
Sath Karam Jaa Kee Rachanaa Sath ||
सति करमु जा की रचना सति ॥
True are His actions; His creation is true.
ਮੂਲੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਉਤਪਤਿ ॥
Mool Sath Sath Outhapath ||
मूलु सति सति उतपति ॥
His root is true, and true is what originates from it.
ਸਤਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ॥
Sath Karanee Niramal Niramalee ||
सति करणी निरमल निरमली ॥
True is His lifestyle, the purest of the pure.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਭ ਭਲੀ ॥
Jisehi Bujhaaeae Thisehi Sabh Bhalee ||
जिसहि बुझाए तिसहि सभ भली ॥
All goes well for those who know Him.
ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
Sath Naam Prabh Kaa Sukhadhaaee ||
सति नामु प्रभ का सुखदाई ॥
The True Name of God is the Giver of peace.
ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥੬॥
Bisvaas Sath Naanak Gur Thae Paaee ||6||
बिस्वासु सति नानक गुर ते पाई ॥६॥
Nanak has obtained true faith from the Guru. ||6||
ਸਤਿ ਬਚਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥
Sath Bachan Saadhhoo Oupadhaes ||
सति बचन साधू उपदेस ॥
True are the Teachings, and the Instructions of the Holy.
ਸਤਿ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ ॥
Sath Thae Jan Jaa Kai Ridhai Pravaes ||
सति ते जन जा कै रिदै प्रवेस ॥
True are those into whose hearts He enters.
ਸਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
Sath Nirath Boojhai Jae Koe ||
सति निरति बूझै जे कोइ ॥
One who knows and loves the Truth
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Naam Japath Thaa Kee Gath Hoe ||
नामु जपत ता की गति होइ ॥
Chanting the Naam, he obtains salvation.
ਆਪਿ ਸਤਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਤਿ ॥
Aap Sath Keeaa Sabh Sath ||
आपि सति कीआ सभु सति ॥
He Himself is True, and all that He has made is true.
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਗਤਿ ॥
Aapae Jaanai Apanee Mith Gath ||
आपे जानै अपनी मिति गति ॥
He Himself knows His own state and condition.
