एको एकु बखानीऐ बिरला जाणै स्वादु ॥
Describe the Lord as the One, the One and Only. How rare are those who know the taste of this essence.

इंद्री बसि करि सुणहु हरि नामु ॥
Subdue the desires of your sexual organs, and listen to the Lord's Name.
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਦਇਆ ॥
Man Santhokh Sarab Jeea Dhaeiaa ||
मनि संतोखु सरब जीअ दइआ ॥
Let your mind be content, and be kind to all beings.
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਰਤੁ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਭਇਆ ॥
Ein Bidhh Barath Sanpooran Bhaeiaa ||
इन बिधि बरतु स्मपूरन भइआ ॥
In this way, your fast will be successful.
ਧਾਵਤ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਇਕ ਠਾਇ ॥
Dhhaavath Man Raakhai Eik Thaae ||
धावत मनु राखै इक ठाइ ॥
Keep your wandering mind restrained in one place.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਧੁ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
Man Than Sudhh Japath Har Naae ||
मनु तनु सुधु जपत हरि नाइ ॥
Your mind and body shall become pure, chanting the Lord's Name.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥

सभ महि पूरि रहे पारब्रहम ॥
The Supreme Lord God is pervading amongst all.

दुरमति हरी सेवा करी भेटे साध क्रिपाल ॥
Evil-mindedness is eliminated, by meeting with and serving the compassionate Holy Saints.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਗਲ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੧੨॥

हरि की भगति करहु तजि मानु ॥
Worship the Lord with devotion, and get rid of your pride.
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥
Har Anmrith Paan Karahu Saadhhasang ||
हरि अम्रित पान करहु साधसंगि ॥
Drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਮਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੈ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

मन त्रिपतासै कीरतन प्रभ रंगि ॥
The mind is satisfied by lovingly singing the Kirtan of God's Praises.

Komal Baanee Sabh Ko Santhokhai ||
कोमल बाणी सभ कउ संतोखै ॥
The Sweet Words of His Bani soothe everyone.
ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਆਤਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਪੋਖੈ ॥
Panch Bhoo Aathamaa Har Naam Ras Pokhai ||
पंच भू आतमा हरि नाम रसि पोखै ॥
The soul, the subtle essence of the five elements, cherishes the Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਏਹ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Gur Poorae Thae Eaeh Nihacho Paaeeai ||
गुर पूरे ते एह निहचउ पाईऐ ॥
This faith is obtained from the Perfect Guru.

तीनि गुणा महि बिआपिआ पूरन होत न काम ॥
Engrossed in the three qualities, one's efforts do not succeed.

आवत जात नरक अवतार ॥
It comes and goes, and is reincarnated in hell.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਨ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
Har Har Bhajan N Man Mehi Aaeiou ||
हरि हरि भजनु न मन महि आइओ ॥
Meditation on the Lord, Har, Har, does not enter into the minds of the people.
ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
Sukh Saagar Prabh Nimakh N Gaaeiou ||
सुख सागर प्रभु निमख न गाइओ ॥
They do not sing the Praises of God, the Ocean of peace, even for an instant.
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਕਾ ਦੇਹ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ॥
Harakh Sog Kaa Dhaeh Kar Baadhhiou ||
हरख सोग का देह करि बाधिओ ॥
This body is the embodiment of pleasure and pain.
ਦੀਰਘ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਸਾਧਿਓ ॥
Dheeragh Rog Maaeiaa Aasaadhhiou ||
दीरघ रोगु माइआ आसाधिओ ॥
It suffers from the chronic and incurable disease of Maya.
ਦਿਨਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਤ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
Dhinehi Bikaar Karath Sram Paaeiou ||
दिनहि बिकार करत स्रमु पाइओ ॥
By day, people practice corruption, wearing themselves out.
ਨੈਨੀ ਨੀਦ ਸੁਪਨ ਬਰੜਾਇਓ ॥
Nainee Needh Supan Bararraaeiou ||
नैनी नीद सुपन बरड़ाइओ ॥
And then with sleep in their eyes, they mutter in dreams.
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਹੋਵਤ ਏਹ ਹਾਲ ॥
Har Bisarath Hovath Eaeh Haal ||
हरि बिसरत होवत एह हाल ॥
Forgetting the Lord, this is their condition.

The Lord is pervading in all the four directions and the fourteen worlds.
ਨਾਨਕ ਊਨ ਨ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ॥੧੪॥

दसे दिसा रविआ प्रभु एकु ॥
The One God is diffused in the ten directions.
ਧਰਨਿ ਅਕਾਸ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੇਖੁ ॥
Dhharan Akaas Sabh Mehi Prabh Paekh ||
धरनि अकास सभ महि प्रभ पेखु ॥
Behold God in all the earth and sky.
ਜਲ ਥਲ ਬਨ ਪਰਬਤ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥
Jal Thhal Ban Parabath Paathaal ||
जल थल बन परबत पाताल ॥
In the water, on the land, in the forests and mountains, and in the nether regions of the underworld,
ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਤਹ ਬਸਹਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
Paramaesvar Theh Basehi Dhaeiaal ||
परमेस्वर तह बसहि दइआल ॥
The Merciful Transcendent Lord is abiding.
ਸੂਖਮ ਅਸਥੂਲ ਸਗਲ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥
Sookham Asathhool Sagal Bhagavaan ||
सूखम असथूल सगल भगवान ॥
The Lord God is in all mind and matter, subtle and manifest.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨ ॥੧੪॥
Naanak Guramukh Breham Pashhaan ||14||
नानक गुरमुखि ब्रहमु पछान ॥१४॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes God. ||14||

The soul is conquered through the Guru's Teachings singing the Glories of God.
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਭੈ ਮਿਟੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੧੫॥
Santh Prasaadhee Bhai Mittae Naanak Binasee Chindh ||15||
संत प्रसादी भै मिटे नानक बिनसी चिंद ॥१५॥
By the Grace of the Saints, fear is dispelled, O Nanak, and anxiety is ended. ||15||
