Whose son is he? Whose father is he?

कउनु मरै को देइ संतापो ॥१॥
Who dies? Who inflicts pain? ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਠਗ ਜਗ ਕਉ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਲਾਈ ॥
Har Thag Jag Ko Thagouree Laaee ||
हरि ठग जग कउ ठगउरी लाई ॥
The Lord is the thug, who has drugged and robbed the whole world.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਬਿਓਗ ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਅਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि के बिओग कैसे जीअउ मेरी माई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I am separated from the Lord; how can I survive, O my mother? ||1||Pause||

कउन को पुरखु कउन की नारी ॥
Whose husband is he? Whose wife is she?
ਇਆ ਤਤ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

इआ तत लेहु सरीर बिचारी ॥२॥
Contemplate this reality within your body. ||2||
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਠਗ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
Kehi Kabeer Thag Sio Man Maaniaa ||
कहि कबीर ठग सिउ मनु मानिआ ॥
Says Kabeer, my mind is pleased and satisfied with the thug.
ਗਈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਠਗੁ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥੩੯॥
Gee Thagouree Thag Pehichaaniaa ||3||39||
गई ठगउरी ठगु पहिचानिआ ॥३॥३९॥
The effects of the drug have vanished, since I recognized the thug. ||3||39||
ਅਬ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
Ab Mo Ko Bheae Raajaa Raam Sehaaee ||
अब मो कउ भए राजा राम सहाई ॥
Now, the Lord, my King, has become my help and support.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਟਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जनम मरन कटि परम गति पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I have cut away birth and death, and attained the supreme status. ||1||Pause||

Saadhhoo Sangath Dheeou Ralaae ||
साधू संगति दीओ रलाइ ॥
He has united me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਤੇ ਲੀਓ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
Panch Dhooth Thae Leeou Shhaddaae ||
पंच दूत ते लीओ छडाइ ॥
He has rescued me from the five demons.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਉ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ॥
Anmrith Naam Japo Jap Rasanaa ||
अम्रित नामु जपउ जपु रसना ॥
I chant with my tongue and meditate on the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਅਮੋਲ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਅਪਨਾ ॥੧॥

अमोल दासु करि लीनो अपना ॥१॥
He has made me his own slave. ||1||

सतिगुर कीनो परउपकारु ॥
The True Guru has blessed me with His generosity.
ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਨ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
Kaadt Leen Saagar Sansaar ||
काढि लीन सागर संसार ॥
He has lifted me up, out of the world-ocean.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

चरन कमल सिउ लागी प्रीति ॥
I have fallen in love with His Lotus Feet.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਬਸੈ ਨਿਤਾ ਨਿਤ ਚੀਤ ॥੨॥

गोबिंदु बसै निता नित चीत ॥२॥
The Lord of the Universe dwells continually within my consciousness. ||2||

माइआ तपति बुझिआ अंगिआरु ॥
The burning fire of Maya has been extinguished.
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
Man Santhokh Naam Aadhhaar ||
मनि संतोखु नामु आधारु ॥
My mind is contented with the Support of the Naam.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

जलि थलि पूरि रहे प्रभ सुआमी ॥
God, the Lord and Master, is totally permeating the water and the land.
ਜਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੩॥

जत पेखउ तत अंतरजामी ॥३॥
Wherever I look, there is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||3||

अपनी भगति आप ही द्रिड़ाई ॥
He Himself has implanted His devotional worship within me.
ਪੂਰਬ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

पूरब लिखतु मिलिआ मेरे भाई ॥
By pre-ordained destiny, one meets Him, O my Siblings of Destiny.
ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਾਜ ॥

When He grants His Grace, one is perfectly fulfilled.

जलि है सूतकु थलि है सूतकु सूतक ओपति होई ॥
There is pollution in the water, and pollution on the land; whatever is born is polluted.
ਜਨਮੇ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਮੂਏ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਸੂਤਕ ਪਰਜ ਬਿਗੋਈ ॥੧॥
Janamae Soothak Mooeae Fun Soothak Soothak Paraj Bigoee ||1||
जनमे सूतकु मूए फुनि सूतकु सूतक परज बिगोई ॥१॥
There is pollution in birth, and more pollution in death; all beings are ruined by pollution. ||1||
ਕਹੁ ਰੇ ਪੰਡੀਆ ਕਉਨ ਪਵੀਤਾ ॥
Kahu Rae Panddeeaa Koun Paveethaa ||
कहु रे पंडीआ कउन पवीता ॥
Tell me, O Pandit, O religious scholar: who is clean and pure?
ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ऐसा गिआनु जपहु मेरे मीता ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

नैनहु सूतकु बैनहु सूतकु सूतकु स्रवनी होई ॥
There is pollution in the eyes, and pollution in speech; there is pollution in the ears as well.
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਪਰੈ ਰਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
Oothath Baithath Soothak Laagai Soothak Parai Rasoee ||2||
ऊठत बैठत सूतकु लागै सूतकु परै रसोई ॥२॥
Standing up and sitting down, one is polluted; one's kitchen is polluted as well. ||2||
ਫਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ਜਾਨੈ ਛੂਟਨ ਕੀ ਇਕੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
Faasan Kee Bidhh Sabh Kooo Jaanai Shhoottan Kee Eik Koee ||
फासन की बिधि सभु कोऊ जानै छूटन की इकु कोई ॥
Everyone knows how to be caught, but hardly anyone knows how to escape.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਤਿਨੈ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥੪੧॥
Kehi Kabeer Raam Ridhai Bichaarai Soothak Thinai N Hoee ||3||41||
कहि कबीर रामु रिदै बिचारै सूतकु तिनै न होई ॥३॥४१॥
Says Kabeer, those who meditate on the Lord within their hearts, are not polluted. ||3||41||

Is this mind greater, or the One to whom the mind is attuned?

रामु बडा कै रामहि जानिआ ॥१॥
Is the Lord greater, or one who knows the Lord? ||1||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਡਾ ਕਿ ਜਾਸੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Brehamaa Baddaa K Jaas Oupaaeiaa ||
ब्रहमा बडा कि जासु उपाइआ ॥
Is Brahma greater, or the One who created Him?
ਬੇਦੁ ਬਡਾ ਕਿ ਜਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
Baedh Baddaa K Jehaan Thae Aaeiaa ||2||
बेदु बडा कि जहां ते आइआ ॥२॥
Are the Vedas greater, or the One from which they came? ||2||
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਉ ਭਇਆ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥

कहि कबीर हउ भइआ उदासु ॥

सभै उडानी भ्रम की टाटी रहै न माइआ बांधी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
It has totally blown away the thatched huts of doubt, and torn apart the bonds of Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਚਿਤੇ ਕੀ ਦੁਇ ਥੂਨਿ ਗਿਰਾਨੀ ਮੋਹ ਬਲੇਡਾ ਟੂਟਾ ॥
Dhuchithae Kee Dhue Thhoon Giraanee Moh Balaeddaa Ttoottaa ||
दुचिते की दुइ थूनि गिरानी मोह बलेडा टूटा ॥
The two pillars of double-mindedness have fallen, and the beams of emotional attachment have come crashing down.
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਛਾਨਿ ਪਰੀ ਧਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਭਾਂਡਾ ਫੂਟਾ ॥੧॥

तिसना छानि परी धर ऊपरि दुरमति भांडा फूटा ॥१॥
The thatched roof of greed has caved in, and the pitcher of evil-mindedness has been broken. ||1||
