Fourth Mehl:
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੀ ਆਪੇ ਆਣਿ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
Jin Ko Aap Dhaee Vaddiaaee Jagath Bhee Aapae Aan Thin Ko Pairee Paaeae ||
जिन कउ आपि देइ वडिआई जगतु भी आपे आणि तिन कउ पैरी पाए ॥
The Lord Himself bestows glorious greatness; He Himself causes the world to come and fall at their feet.
ਡਰੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪ ਦੂ ਕੀਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਧਾਏ ॥
Ddareeai Thaan Jae Kishh Aap Dhoo Keechai Sabh Karathaa Aapanee Kalaa Vadhhaaeae ||
डरीऐ तां जे किछु आप दू कीचै सभु करता आपणी कला वधाए ॥
We should only be afraid, if we try to do things by ourselves; the Creator is increasing His Power in every way.
ਦੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਏਹੁ ਅਖਾੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਚੇ ਕਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਜੋਰਿ ਸਭਿ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਵਾਏ ॥
Dhaekhahu Bhaaee Eaehu Akhaarraa Har Preetham Sachae Kaa Jin Aapanai Jor Sabh Aan Nivaaeae ||
देखहु भाई एहु अखाड़ा हरि प्रीतम सचे का जिनि आपणै जोरि सभि आणि निवाए ॥
Behold, O Siblings of Destiny: this is the Arena of the Beloved True Lord; His power brings everyone to bow in humility.
ਆਪਣਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਖ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਦੁਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
Aapaniaa Bhagathaa Kee Rakh Karae Har Suaamee Nindhakaa Dhusattaa Kae Muh Kaalae Karaaeae ||
आपणिआ भगता की रख करे हरि सुआमी निंदका दुसटा के मुह काले कराए ॥
The Lord, our Lord and Master, preserves and protects His devotees; He blackens the faces of the slanderers and evil-doers.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Kee Vaddiaaee Nith Charrai Savaaee Har Keerath Bhagath Nith Aap Karaaeae ||
सतिगुर की वडिआई नित चड़ै सवाई हरि कीरति भगति नित आपि कराए ॥
The glorious greatness of the True Guru increases day by day; the Lord inspires His devotees to continually sing the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਘਰੀ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
Anadhin Naam Japahu Gurasikhahu Har Karathaa Sathigur Gharee Vasaaeae ||
अनदिनु नामु जपहु गुरसिखहु हरि करता सतिगुरु घरी वसाए ॥
O GurSikhs, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, night and day; through the True Guru, the Creator Lord will come to dwell within the home of your inner being.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕਢਾਏ ॥
Sathigur Kee Baanee Sath Sath Kar Jaanahu Gurasikhahu Har Karathaa Aap Muhahu Kadtaaeae ||
सतिगुर की बाणी सति सति करि जाणहु गुरसिखहु हरि करता आपि मुहहु कढाए ॥
O GurSikhs, know that the Bani, the Word of the True Guru, is true, absolutely true. The Creator Lord Himself causes the Guru to chant it.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਹ ਉਜਲੇ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ਸਭਤੁ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
Gurasikhaa Kae Muh Oujalae Karae Har Piaaraa Gur Kaa Jaikaar Sansaar Sabhath Karaaeae ||
गुरसिखा के मुह उजले करे हरि पिआरा गुर का जैकारु संसारि सभतु कराए ॥
The Beloved Lord makes the faces of His GurSikhs radiant; He makes the whole world applaud and acclaim the Guru.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਏ ॥੨॥
Jan Naanak Har Kaa Dhaas Hai Har Dhaasan Kee Har Paij Rakhaaeae ||2||
जनु नानकु हरि का दासु है हरि दासन की हरि पैज रखाए ॥२॥
Servant Nanak is the slave of the Lord; the Lord Himself preserves the honor of His slave. ||2||

ਤੂ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
Thoo Sachaa Saahib Aap Hai Sach Saah Hamaarae ||
तू सचा साहिबु आपि है सचु साह हमारे ॥
O My True Lord and Master, You Yourself are my True Lord King.
ਸਚੁ ਪੂਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਥਾਰੇ ॥
Sach Poojee Naam Dhrirraae Prabh Vanajaarae Thhaarae ||
सचु पूजी नामु द्रिड़ाइ प्रभ वणजारे थारे ॥
Please, implant within me the true treasure of Your Name; O God, I am Your merchant.
ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਥਹ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥
Sach Saevehi Sach Vananj Laihi Gun Kathheh Niraarae ||
सचु सेवहि सचु वणंजि लैहि गुण कथह निरारे ॥
I serve the True One, and deal in the True One; I chant Your Wondrous Praises.
ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
Saevak Bhaae Sae Jan Milae Gur Sabadh Savaarae ||
सेवक भाइ से जन मिले गुर सबदि सवारे ॥
Those humble beings who serve the Lord with love meet Him; they are adorned with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਤੂ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਖਾਰੇ ॥੧੪॥
Thoo Sachaa Saahib Alakh Hai Gur Sabadh Lakhaarae ||14||
तू सचा साहिबु अलखु है गुर सबदि लखारे ॥१४॥
O my True Lord and Master, You are unknowable; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You are known. ||14||

Shalok, Fourth Mehl:
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤਾਤਿ ਪਰਾਈ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਭਲਾ ॥
Jis Andhar Thaath Paraaee Hovai This Dhaa Kadhae N Hovee Bhalaa ||
जिसु अंदरि ताति पराई होवै तिस दा कदे न होवी भला ॥
One whose heart is filled with jealousy of others, never comes to any good.
ਓਸ ਦੈ ਆਖਿਐ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਨਿਤ ਓਜਾੜੀ ਪੂਕਾਰੇ ਖਲਾ ॥
Ous Dhai Aakhiai Koee N Lagai Nith Oujaarree Pookaarae Khalaa ||
ओस दै आखिऐ कोई न लगै नित ओजाड़ी पूकारे खला ॥
No one pays any attention to what he says; he is just a fool, crying out endlessly in the wilderness.
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਚੁਗਲੋ ਵਜੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
Jis Andhar Chugalee Chugalo Vajai Keethaa Karathiaa Ous Dhaa Sabh Gaeiaa ||
जिसु अंदरि चुगली चुगलो वजै कीता करतिआ ओस दा सभु गइआ ॥
One whose heart is filled with malicious gossip, is known as a malicious gossip; everything he does is in vain.
ਨਿਤ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰੇ ਅਣਹੋਦੀ ਪਰਾਈ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਢਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਭਇਆ ॥
Nith Chugalee Karae Anehodhee Paraaee Muhu Kadt N Sakai Ous Dhaa Kaalaa Bhaeiaa ||
नित चुगली करे अणहोदी पराई मुहु कढि न सकै ओस दा काला भइआ ॥
Night and day, he continually gossips about others; his face has been blackened, and he cannot show it to anyone.
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਖਾਏ ॥
Karam Dhharathee Sareer Kalijug Vich Jaehaa Ko Beejae Thaehaa Ko Khaaeae ||
करम धरती सरीरु कलिजुग विचि जेहा को बीजे तेहा को खाए ॥
The body is the field of action, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga; as you plant, so shall you harvest.
ਗਲਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਸੁ ਖਾਧੀ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
Galaa Oupar Thapaavas N Hoee Vis Khaadhhee Thathakaal Mar Jaaeae ||
गला उपरि तपावसु न होई विसु खाधी ततकाल मरि जाए ॥
Justice is not passed on mere words; if someone eats poison, he dies.
ਭਾਈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਏ ॥
Bhaaee Vaekhahu Niaao Sach Karathae Kaa Jaehaa Koee Karae Thaehaa Koee Paaeae ||
भाई वेखहु निआउ सचु करते का जेहा कोई करे तेहा कोई पाए ॥
O Siblings of Destiny, behold the justice of the True Creator; as people act, so they are rewarded.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੧॥
Jan Naanak Ko Sabh Sojhee Paaee Har Dhar Keeaa Baathaa Aakh Sunaaeae ||1||
जन नानक कउ सभ सोझी पाई हरि दर कीआ बाता आखि सुणाए ॥१॥
The Lord has bestowed total understanding upon servant Nanak; he speaks and proclaims the words of the Lord's Court. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:
ਹੋਦੈ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਦਰਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Hodhai Parathakh Guroo Jo Vishhurrae Thin Ko Dhar Dtoee Naahee ||
होदै परतखि गुरू जो विछुड़े तिन कउ दरि ढोई नाही ॥
Those who separate themselves from the Guru, in spite of His Constant Presence - they find no place of rest in the Court of the Lord.
ਕੋਈ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਕੇ ਥੁਕ ਥੁਕ ਮੁਹਿ ਪਾਹੀ ॥
Koee Jaae Milai Thin Nindhakaa Muh Fikae Thhuk Thhuk Muhi Paahee ||
कोई जाइ मिलै तिन निंदका मुह फिके थुक थुक मुहि पाही ॥
If someone goes to meet with those dull-faced slanderers, he will find their faces covered with spit.
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਫਿਟਕੇ ਸੇ ਸਭ ਜਗਤਿ ਫਿਟਕੇ ਨਿਤ ਭੰਭਲ ਭੂਸੇ ਖਾਹੀ ॥
Jo Sathigur Fittakae Sae Sabh Jagath Fittakae Nith Bhanbhal Bhoosae Khaahee ||
जो सतिगुरि फिटके से सभ जगति फिटके नित भ्मभल भूसे खाही ॥
Those who are cursed by the True Guru, are cursed by all the world. They wander around endlessly.
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਪਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਢਹਾ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥
Jin Gur Gopiaa Aapanaa Sae Laidhae Dtehaa Firaahee ||
जिन गुरु गोपिआ आपणा से लैदे ढहा फिराही ॥
Those who do not publicly affirm their Guru wander around, moaning and groaning.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਭੁਖਾ ਭੁਖ ਕੂਕਾਹੀ ॥
Thin Kee Bhukh Kadhae N Outharai Nith Bhukhaa Bhukh Kookaahee ||
तिन की भुख कदे न उतरै नित भुखा भुख कूकाही ॥
Their hunger shall never depart; afflicted by constant hunger, they cry out in pain.
ਓਨਾ ਦਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਕੋ ਨਾ ਸੁਣੈ ਨਿਤ ਹਉਲੇ ਹਉਲਿ ਮਰਾਹੀ ॥
Ounaa Dhaa Aakhiaa Ko N Sunai Nith Houlae Houl Maraahee ||
ओना दा आखिआ को ना सुणै नित हउले हउलि मराही ॥
No one hears what they have to say; they live in constant fear and terror, until they finally die.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਨੀ ਓਨਾ ਅਗੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Sathigur Kee Vaddiaaee Vaekh N Sakanee Ounaa Agai Pishhai Thhaao Naahee ||
सतिगुर की वडिआई वेखि न सकनी ओना अगै पिछै थाउ नाही ॥
They cannot bear the glorious greatness of the True Guru, and they find no place of rest, here or hereafter.
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਰਹਦੀ ਖੁਹਦੀ ਸਭ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਹੀ ॥
Jo Sathigur Maarae Thin Jaae Milehi Rehadhee Khuhadhee Sabh Path Gavaahee ||
जो सतिगुरि मारे तिन जाइ मिलहि रहदी खुहदी सभ पति गवाही ॥
Those who go out to meet with those who have been cursed by the True Guru, lose all remnants of their honor.
