जिस नो दइआलु होवै मेरा सुआमी तिसु गुरसिख गुरू उपदेसु सुणावै ॥
That person, unto whom my Lord and Master is kind and compassionate - upon that GurSikh, the Guru's Teachings are bestowed.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਧੂੜਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਆਪਿ ਜਪੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

जनु नानकु धूड़ि मंगै तिसु गुरसिख की जो आपि जपै अवरह नामु जपावै ॥२॥
Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. ||2||

जो तुधु सचु धिआइदे से विरले थोड़े ॥
Those who meditate on You, O True Lord - they are very rare.
ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਇਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਕਰੋੜੇ ॥
Jo Man Chith Eik Araadhhadhae Thin Kee Barakath Khaahi Asankh Karorrae ||
जो मनि चिति इकु अराधदे तिन की बरकति खाहि असंख करोड़े ॥
Those who worship and adore the One Lord in their conscious minds - through their generosity, countless millions are fed.
ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਸਭ ਧਿਆਇਦੀ ਸੇ ਥਾਇ ਪਏ ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਲੋੜੇ ॥
Thudhhuno Sabh Dhhiaaeidhee Sae Thhaae Peae Jo Saahib Lorrae ||
तुधुनो सभ धिआइदी से थाइ पए जो साहिब लोड़े ॥
All meditate on You, but they alone are accepted, who are pleasing to their Lord and Master.
ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਖਾਦੇ ਪੈਨਦੇ ਸੇ ਮੁਏ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੇ ਕੋੜ੍ਹੇ ॥
Jo Bin Sathigur Saevae Khaadhae Painadhae Sae Mueae Mar Janmae Korrhae ||
जो बिनु सतिगुर सेवे खादे पैनदे से मुए मरि जमे कोड़्हे ॥
Those who eat and dress without serving the True Guru die; after death, those wretched lepers are consigned to reincarnation.
ਓਇ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਕਢਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਘੋਲੇ ॥
Oue Haajar Mithaa Boladhae Baahar Vis Kadtehi Mukh Gholae ||
ओइ हाजरु मिठा बोलदे बाहरि विसु कढहि मुखि घोले ॥
In His Sublime Presence, they talk sweetly, but behind His back, they exude poison from their mouths.

ਮਲੁ ਜੂਈ ਭਰਿਆ ਨੀਲਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਖਿਧੋਲੜਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਵੇਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਮੁਖੈ ਨੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Mal Jooee Bhariaa Neelaa Kaalaa Khidhholarraa Thin Vaemukh Vaemukhai No Paaeiaa ||
मलु जूई भरिआ नीला काला खिधोलड़ा तिनि वेमुखि वेमुखै नो पाइआ ॥
The faithless baymukh sent out his faithless servant, wearing a blue-black coat, filled with filth and vermin.
ਪਾਸਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਕੋਈ ਬਹਣਿ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਗੂਹ ਪੜਿ ਸਗਵੀ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਇ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
Paas N Dhaeee Koee Behan Jagath Mehi Gooh Parr Sagavee Mal Laae Manamukh Aaeiaa ||
पासि न देई कोई बहणि जगत महि गूह पड़ि सगवी मलु लाइ मनमुखु आइआ ॥
No one in the world will sit near him; the self-willed manmukh fell into manure, and returned with even more filth covering him.
ਪਰਾਈ ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਨੋ ਵੇਮੁਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਓਥੈ ਭੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਦੁਹਾ ਵੇਮੁਖਾ ਦਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
Paraaee Jo Nindhaa Chugalee No Vaemukh Kar Kai Bhaejiaa Outhhai Bhee Muhu Kaalaa Dhuhaa Vaemukhaa Dhaa Karaaeiaa ||
पराई जो निंदा चुगली नो वेमुखु करि कै भेजिआ ओथै भी मुहु काला दुहा वेमुखा दा कराइआ ॥
The faithless baymukh was sent to slander and back-bite others, but when he went there, the faces of both he and his faithless master were blackened instead.
ਤੜ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਸਭਤੁ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚਿ ਭਾਈ ਵੇਮੁਖੁ ਸਣੈ ਨਫਰੈ ਪਉਲੀ ਪਉਦੀ ਫਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਉਠਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
Tharr Suniaa Sabhath Jagath Vich Bhaaee Vaemukh Sanai Nafarai Poulee Poudhee Faavaa Hoe Kai Outh Ghar Aaeiaa ||
तड़ सुणिआ सभतु जगत विचि भाई वेमुखु सणै नफरै पउली पउदी फावा होइ कै उठि घरि आइआ ॥
It was immediately heard throughout the whole world, O Siblings of Destiny, that this faithless man, along with his servant, was kicked and beaten with shoes; in humiliation, they got up and returned to their homes.
ਅਗੈ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਕੁੜਮੀ ਵੇਮੁਖੁ ਰਲਣਾ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਭਤੀਜੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਣਿ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Agai Sangathee Kurramee Vaemukh Ralanaa N Milai Thaa Vahuttee Bhatheejanaee Fir Aan Ghar Paaeiaa ||
अगै संगती कुड़मी वेमुखु रलणा न मिलै ता वहुटी भतीजीं फिरि आणि घरि पाइआ ॥
The faithless baymukh was not allowed to mingle with others; his wife and niece then brought him home to lie down.
ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਦੋਵੈ ਗਏ ਨਿਤ ਭੁਖਾ ਕੂਕੇ ਤਿਹਾਇਆ ॥
Halath Palath Dhovai Geae Nith Bhukhaa Kookae Thihaaeiaa ||
हलतु पलतु दोवै गए नित भुखा कूके तिहाइआ ॥
He has lost both this world and the next; he cries out continually, in hunger and thirst.
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੁ ਬਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
Dhhan Dhhan Suaamee Karathaa Purakh Hai Jin Niaao Sach Behi Aap Karaaeiaa ||
धनु धनु सुआमी करता पुरखु है जिनि निआउ सचु बहि आपि कराइआ ॥
Blessed, blessed is the Creator, the Primal Being, our Lord and Master; He Himself sits and dispenses true justice.
ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਸੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥
Jo Nindhaa Karae Sathigur Poorae Kee So Saachai Maar Pachaaeiaa ||
जो निंदा करे सतिगुर पूरे की सो साचै मारि पचाइआ ॥
One who slanders the Perfect True Guru is punished and destroyed by the True Lord.
ਏਹੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

एहु अखरु तिनि आखिआ जिनि जगतु सभु उपाइआ ॥१॥

साहिबु जिस का नंगा भुखा होवै तिस दा नफरु किथहु रजि खाए ॥
One who has a poor beggar for a master - how can he be well-fed?
ਜਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਫਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਆਵੈ ਅਣਹੋਦੀ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
J Saahib Kai Ghar Vathh Hovai S Nafarai Hathh Aavai Anehodhee Kithhahu Paaeae ||
जि साहिब कै घरि वथु होवै सु नफरै हथि आवै अणहोदी किथहु पाए ॥
If there is something in his master's house, he can get it; but how can he get what is not there?
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਸਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਉਖੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
Jis Dhee Saevaa Keethee Fir Laekhaa Mangeeai Saa Saevaa Aoukhee Hoee ||
जिस दी सेवा कीती फिरि लेखा मंगीऐ सा सेवा अउखी होई ॥
Serving him, who will be called to answer for his account? That service is painful and useless.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
Naanak Saevaa Karahu Har Gur Safal Dharasan Kee Fir Laekhaa Mangai N Koee ||2||
नानक सेवा करहु हरि गुर सफल दरसन की फिरि लेखा मंगै न कोई ॥२॥
O Nanak, serve the Guru, the Lord Incarnate; the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is profitable, and in the end, you shall not be called to account. ||2||

नानक वीचारहि संत जन चारि वेद कहंदे ॥
O Nanak, the Saints consider, and the four Vedas proclaim,
ਭਗਤ ਮੁਖੈ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸੇ ਵਚਨ ਹੋਵੰਦੇ ॥
Bhagath Mukhai Thae Boladhae Sae Vachan Hovandhae ||
भगत मुखै ते बोलदे से वचन होवंदे ॥
That whatever the Lord's devotees utter with their mouths, shall come to pass.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪਹਾਰਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣੰਦੇ ॥
Pragatt Pehaaraa Jaapadhaa Sabh Lok Sunandhae ||
प्रगट पहारा जापदा सभि लोक सुणंदे ॥
He is manifest in His cosmic workshop. All people hear of this.
ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਰ ਸੰਤ ਨਾਲਿ ਖਹੰਦੇ ॥
Sukh N Paaein Mugadhh Nar Santh Naal Khehandhae ||
सुखु न पाइनि मुगध नर संत नालि खहंदे ॥
The stubborn men who fight with the Saints shall never find peace.
ਓਇ ਲੋਚਨਿ ਓਨਾ ਗੁਣੈ ਨੋ ਓਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਸੜੰਦੇ ॥
Oue Lochan Ounaa Gunai No Oue Ahankaar Sarrandhae ||
ओइ लोचनि ओना गुणै नो ओइ अहंकारि सड़ंदे ॥
The Saints seek to bless them with virtue, but they only burn in their egos.
ਓਇ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਾ ਭਾਗ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੰਦੇ ॥
Oue Vichaarae Kiaa Karehi Jaa Bhaag Dhhur Mandhae ||
ओइ विचारे किआ करहि जा भाग धुरि मंदे ॥
What can those wretched ones do, since, from the very beginning, their destiny is cursed with evil.
ਜੋ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਸੰਦੇ ॥
Jo Maarae Thin Paarabreham Sae Kisai N Sandhae ||
जो मारे तिनि पारब्रहमि से किसै न संदे ॥
Those who are struck down by the Supreme Lord God are of no use to anyone.
ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਇ ਪਚੰਦੇ ॥
Vair Karehi Niravair Naal Dhharam Niaae Pachandhae ||
वैरु करहि निरवैर नालि धरम निआइ पचंदे ॥
Those who hate the One who has no hatred - according to the true justice of Dharma, they shall perish.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸੰਤਿ ਸਰਾਪਿਆ ਸੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭਵੰਦੇ ॥
Jo Jo Santh Saraapiaa Sae Firehi Bhavandhae ||
जो जो संति सरापिआ से फिरहि भवंदे ॥
Those who are cursed by the Saints will continue wandering aimlessly.
ਪੇਡੁ ਮੁੰਢਾਹੂੰ ਕਟਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਡਾਲ ਸੁਕੰਦੇ ॥੧੨॥
Paedd Mundtaahoon Kattiaa This Ddaal Sukandhae ||12||
पेडु मुंढाहूं कटिआ तिसु डाल सुकंदे ॥१२॥
When the tree is cut off at its roots, the branches wither and die. ||12||
