ਤਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਤ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥ ॥
Thaa Ko Raakhath Dhae Kar Haathh ||
ता कउ राखत दे करि हाथ ॥
He preserves them, and holds out His Hands to protect them.
ਮਾਨਸ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ॥
Maanas Jathan Karath Bahu Bhaath ||
मानस जतन करत बहु भाति ॥
You may make all sorts of efforts,
ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
This Kae Karathab Birathhae Jaath ||
तिस के करतब बिरथे जाति ॥
But these attempts are in vain.
ਮਾਰੈ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
Maarai N Raakhai Avar N Koe ||
मारै न राखै अवरु न कोइ ॥
No one else can kill or preserve
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
Sarab Jeeaa Kaa Raakhaa Soe ||
सरब जीआ का राखा सोइ ॥
He is the Protector of all beings.
ਕਾਹੇ ਸੋਚ ਕਰਹਿ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
Kaahae Soch Karehi Rae Praanee ||
काहे सोच करहि रे प्राणी ॥
So why are you so anxious, O mortal?
ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਲਖ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੫॥

जपि नानक प्रभ अलख विडाणी ॥५॥
Meditate, O Nanak, on God, the invisible, the wonderful! ||5||
ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਪੀਐ ॥
Baaran Baar Baar Prabh Japeeai ||
बारं बार बार प्रभु जपीऐ ॥
Time after time, again and again, meditate on God.
ਪੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਪੀਐ ॥
Pee Anmrith Eihu Man Than Dhhrapeeai ||
पी अम्रितु इहु मनु तनु ध्रपीऐ ॥
Drinking in this Nectar, this mind and body are satisfied.
ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Naam Rathan Jin Guramukh Paaeiaa ||
नाम रतनु जिनि गुरमुखि पाइआ ॥
The jewel of the Naam is obtained by the Gurmukhs;
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
This Kishh Avar Naahee Dhrisattaaeiaa ||
तिसु किछु अवरु नाही द्रिसटाइआ ॥
They see no other than God.
ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੋ ਰੂਪੁ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
Naam Dhhan Naamo Roop Rang ||
नामु धनु नामो रूपु रंगु ॥
Unto them, the Naam is wealth, the Naam is beauty and delight.
ਨਾਮੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
Naamo Sukh Har Naam Kaa Sang ||
नामो सुखु हरि नाम का संगु ॥
The Naam is peace, the Lord's Name is their companion.
ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੇ ॥
Naam Ras Jo Jan Thripathaanae ||
नाम रसि जो जन त्रिपताने ॥
Those who are satisfied by the essence of the Naam
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
Man Than Naamehi Naam Samaanae ||
मन तन नामहि नामि समाने ॥
Their minds and bodies are drenched with the Naam.
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਨਾਮ ॥
Oothath Baithath Sovath Naam ||
ऊठत बैठत सोवत नाम ॥
While standing up, sitting down and sleeping, the Naam,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਕਾਮ ॥੬॥

कहु नानक जन कै सद काम ॥६॥
Says Nanak, is forever the occupation of God's humble servant. ||6||
ਬੋਲਹੁ ਜਸੁ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
Bolahu Jas Jihabaa Dhin Raath ||
बोलहु जसु जिहबा दिनु राति ॥
Chant His Praises with your tongue, day and night.
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਜਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
Prabh Apanai Jan Keenee Dhaath ||
प्रभि अपनै जन कीनी दाति ॥
God Himself has given this gift to His servants.
ਕਰਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਆਤਮ ਕੈ ਚਾਇ ॥
Karehi Bhagath Aatham Kai Chaae ||
करहि भगति आतम कै चाइ ॥
Performing devotional worship with heart-felt love,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Prabh Apanae Sio Rehehi Samaae ||
प्रभ अपने सिउ रहहि समाइ ॥
They remain absorbed in God Himself.
ਜੋ ਹੋਆ ਹੋਵਤ ਸੋ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
Jo Hoaa Hovath So Jaanai ||
जो होआ होवत सो जानै ॥
They know the past and the present.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
Prabh Apanae Kaa Hukam Pashhaanai ||
प्रभ अपने का हुकमु पछानै ॥
They recognize God's Own Command.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਉਨ ਬਖਾਨਉ ॥
This Kee Mehimaa Koun Bakhaano ||
तिस की महिमा कउन बखानउ ॥
Who can describe His Glory?
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਕਹਿ ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ॥
This Kaa Gun Kehi Eaek N Jaano ||
तिस का गुनु कहि एक न जानउ ॥
I cannot describe even one of His virtuous qualities.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਸਹਿ ਹਜੂਰੇ ॥
Aath Pehar Prabh Basehi Hajoorae ||
आठ पहर प्रभ बसहि हजूरे ॥
Those who dwell in God's Presence, twenty-four hours a day
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ॥੭॥
Kahu Naanak Saeee Jan Poorae ||7||
कहु नानक सेई जन पूरे ॥७॥
- says Nanak, they are the perfect persons. ||7||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਲੇਹਿ ॥
Man Maerae Thin Kee Outt Laehi ||
मन मेरे तिन की ओट लेहि ॥
O my mind, seek their protection;
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਦੇਹਿ ॥
Man Than Apanaa Thin Jan Dhaehi ||
मनु तनु अपना तिन जन देहि ॥
Give your mind and body to those humble beings.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
Jin Jan Apanaa Prabhoo Pashhaathaa ||
जिनि जनि अपना प्रभू पछाता ॥
Those humble beings who recognizes God
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
So Jan Sarab Thhok Kaa Dhaathaa ||
सो जनु सरब थोक का दाता ॥
Are the givers of all things.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
This Kee Saran Sarab Sukh Paavehi ||
तिस की सरनि सरब सुख पावहि ॥
In His Sanctuary, all comforts are obtained.
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਭ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟਾਵਹਿ ॥
This Kai Dharas Sabh Paap Mittaavehi ||
तिस कै दरसि सभ पाप मिटावहि ॥
By the Blessing of His Darshan, all sins are erased.
ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲੀ ਛਾਡੁ ॥
Avar Siaanap Sagalee Shhaadd ||
अवर सिआनप सगली छाडु ॥
So renounce all other clever devices,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
This Jan Kee Thoo Saevaa Laag ||
तिसु जन की तू सेवा लागु ॥
And enjoin yourself to the service of those servants.
ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
Aavan Jaan N Hovee Thaeraa ||
आवनु जानु न होवी तेरा ॥
Your comings and goings shall be ended.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਸਦ ਪੈਰਾ ॥੮॥੧੭॥

सति पुरखु जिनि जानिआ सतिगुरु तिस का नाउ ॥
The one who knows the True Lord God, is called the True Guru.
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਖੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥

तिस कै संगि सिखु उधरै नानक हरि गुन गाउ ॥१॥
In His Company, the Sikh is saved, O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||

The True Guru cherishes His Sikh.
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
Saevak Ko Gur Sadhaa Dhaeiaal ||
सेवक कउ गुरु सदा दइआल ॥
The Guru is always merciful to His servant.
ਸਿਖ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਲੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥
Sikh Kee Gur Dhuramath Mal Hirai ||
सिख की गुरु दुरमति मलु हिरै ॥
The Guru washes away the filth of the evil intellect of His Sikh.
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
Gur Bachanee Har Naam Oucharai ||
गुर बचनी हरि नामु उचरै ॥
Through the Guru's Teachings, he chants the Lord's Name.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੈ ॥
Sathigur Sikh Kae Bandhhan Kaattai ||
सतिगुरु सिख के बंधन काटै ॥
The True Guru cuts away the bonds of His Sikh.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਿਖੁ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਹਾਟੈ ॥
Gur Kaa Sikh Bikaar Thae Haattai ||
गुर का सिखु बिकार ते हाटै ॥
The Sikh of the Guru abstains from evil deeds.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
Sathigur Sikh Ko Naam Dhhan Dhaee ||
सतिगुरु सिख कउ नाम धनु देइ ॥
The True Guru gives His Sikh the wealth of the Naam.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਿਖੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹੇ ॥
Gur Kaa Sikh Vaddabhaagee Hae ||
गुर का सिखु वडभागी हे ॥
The Sikh of the Guru is very fortunate.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਕਾ ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥
Sathigur Sikh Kaa Halath Palath Savaarai ||
सतिगुरु सिख का हलतु पलतु सवारै ॥
The True Guru arranges this world and the next for His Sikh.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਕਉ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
Naanak Sathigur Sikh Ko Jeea Naal Samaarai ||1||
नानक सतिगुरु सिख कउ जीअ नालि समारै ॥१॥
O Nanak, with the fullness of His heart, the True Guru mends His Sikh. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੋ ਰਹੈ ॥
Gur Kai Grihi Saevak Jo Rehai ||
गुर कै ग्रिहि सेवकु जो रहै ॥
That selfless servant, who lives in the Guru's household,
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਹੈ ॥
Gur Kee Aagiaa Man Mehi Sehai ||
गुर की आगिआ मन महि सहै ॥
Is to obey the Guru's Commands with all his mind.
ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਜਨਾਵੈ ॥
Aapas Ko Kar Kashh N Janaavai ||
आपस कउ करि कछु न जनावै ॥
He is not to call attention to himself in any way.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਦ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
Har Har Naam Ridhai Sadh Dhhiaavai ||
हरि हरि नामु रिदै सद धिआवै ॥
He is to meditate constantly within his heart on the Name of the Lord.
ਮਨੁ ਬੇਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
Man Baechai Sathigur Kai Paas ||
मनु बेचै सतिगुर कै पासि ॥
One who sells his mind to the True Guru
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
This Saevak Kae Kaaraj Raas ||
तिसु सेवक के कारज रासि ॥
- that humble servant's affairs are resolved.
ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਕਾਮੀ ॥
Saevaa Karath Hoe Nihakaamee ||
सेवा करत होइ निहकामी ॥
One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward,
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
This Ko Hoth Paraapath Suaamee ||
तिस कउ होत परापति सुआमी ॥
Shall attain his Lord and Master.
