ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਿਉ ਸ੍ਵਾਗੀ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
Naanaa Roop Jio Svaagee Dhikhaavai ||
नाना रूप जिउ स्वागी दिखावै ॥
In various costumes, like actors, they appear.
ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਨਚਾਵੈ ॥
Jio Prabh Bhaavai Thivai Nachaavai ||
जिउ प्रभ भावै तिवै नचावै ॥
As it pleases God, they dance.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jo This Bhaavai Soee Hoe ||
जो तिसु भावै सोई होइ ॥
Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੭॥
Naanak Dhoojaa Avar N Koe ||7||
नानक दूजा अवरु न कोइ ॥७॥
O Nanak, there is no other at all. ||7||
ਕਬਹੂ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਹੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Kabehoo Saadhhasangath Eihu Paavai ||
कबहू साधसंगति इहु पावै ॥
Sometimes, this being attains the Company of the Holy.
ਉਸੁ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
Ous Asathhaan Thae Bahur N Aavai ||
उसु असथान ते बहुरि न आवै ॥
From that place, he does not have to come back again.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਗਿਆਨ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
Anthar Hoe Giaan Paragaas ||
अंतरि होइ गिआन परगासु ॥
The light of spiritual wisdom dawns within.
ਉਸੁ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
Ous Asathhaan Kaa Nehee Binaas ||
उसु असथान का नही बिनासु ॥
That place does not perish.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
Man Than Naam Rathae Eik Rang ||
मन तन नामि रते इक रंगि ॥
The mind and body are imbued with the Love of the Naam, the Name of the One Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਬਸਹਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
Sadhaa Basehi Paarabreham Kai Sang ||
सदा बसहि पारब्रहम कै संगि ॥
He dwells forever with the Supreme Lord God.
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜਲੁ ਆਇ ਖਟਾਨਾ ॥
Jio Jal Mehi Jal Aae Khattaanaa ||
जिउ जल महि जलु आइ खटाना ॥
As water comes to blend with water,
ਤਿਉ ਜੋਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
Thio Jothee Sang Joth Samaanaa ||
तिउ जोती संगि जोति समाना ॥
His light blends into the Light.
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਗਵਨ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
Mitt Geae Gavan Paaeae Bisraam ||
मिटि गए गवन पाए बिस्राम ॥
Reincarnation is ended, and eternal peace is found.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੮॥੧੧॥

Sukhee Basai Masakeeneeaa Aap Nivaar Thalae ||
सुखी बसै मसकीनीआ आपु निवारि तले ॥
The humble beings abide in peace; subduing egotism, they are meek.
ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਰਬਿ ਗਲੇ ॥੧॥
Baddae Baddae Ahankaareeaa Naanak Garab Galae ||1||
बडे बडे अहंकारीआ नानक गरबि गले ॥१॥
The very proud and arrogant persons, O Nanak, are consumed by their own pride. ||1||

ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਾਜ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
Jis Kai Anthar Raaj Abhimaan ||
जिस कै अंतरि राज अभिमानु ॥
One who has the pride of power within,
ਸੋ ਨਰਕਪਾਤੀ ਹੋਵਤ ਸੁਆਨੁ ॥
So Narakapaathee Hovath Suaan ||
सो नरकपाती होवत सुआनु ॥
Shall dwell in hell, and become a dog.
ਜੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਮੈ ਜੋਬਨਵੰਤੁ ॥
Jo Jaanai Mai Jobanavanth ||
जो जानै मै जोबनवंतु ॥
One who deems himself to have the beauty of youth,
ਸੋ ਹੋਵਤ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਜੰਤੁ ॥
So Hovath Bisattaa Kaa Janth ||
सो होवत बिसटा का जंतु ॥
Shall become a maggot in manure.
ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਕਰਮਵੰਤੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
Aapas Ko Karamavanth Kehaavai ||
आपस कउ करमवंतु कहावै ॥
One who claims to act virtuously,
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਵੈ ॥
Janam Marai Bahu Jon Bhramaavai ||
जनमि मरै बहु जोनि भ्रमावै ॥
Shall live and die, wandering through countless reincarnations.
ਧਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੈ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
Dhhan Bhoom Kaa Jo Karai Gumaan ||
धन भूमि का जो करै गुमानु ॥
One who takes pride in wealth and lands
ਸੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
So Moorakh Andhhaa Agiaan ||
सो मूरखु अंधा अगिआनु ॥
Is a fool, blind and ignorant.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Jis Kai Hiradhai Gareebee Basaavai ||
करि किरपा जिस कै हिरदै गरीबी बसावै ॥
One whose heart is mercifully blessed with abiding humility,
ਨਾਨਕ ਈਹਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਆਗੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
Naanak Eehaa Mukath Aagai Sukh Paavai ||1||
नानक ईहा मुकतु आगै सुखु पावै ॥१॥
O Nanak, is liberated here, and obtains peace hereafter. ||1||
ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਕਰਿ ਗਰਬਾਵੈ ॥
Dhhanavanthaa Hoe Kar Garabaavai ||
धनवंता होइ करि गरबावै ॥
One who becomes wealthy and takes pride in it
ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
Thrin Samaan Kashh Sang N Jaavai ||
त्रिण समानि कछु संगि न जावै ॥
Not even a piece of straw shall go along with him.
ਬਹੁ ਲਸਕਰ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਆਸ ॥
Bahu Lasakar Maanukh Oopar Karae Aas ||
बहु लसकर मानुख ऊपरि करे आस ॥
He may place his hopes on a large army of men,
ਪਲ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
Pal Bheethar Thaa Kaa Hoe Binaas ||
पल भीतरि ता का होइ बिनास ॥
But he shall vanish in an instant.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਜਾਨੈ ਬਲਵੰਤੁ ॥
Sabh Thae Aap Jaanai Balavanth ||
सभ ते आप जानै बलवंतु ॥
One who deems himself to be the strongest of all,
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਇ ਭਸਮੰਤੁ ॥
Khin Mehi Hoe Jaae Bhasamanth ||
खिन महि होइ जाइ भसमंतु ॥
In an instant, shall be reduced to ashes.
ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਬਦੈ ਆਪਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
Kisai N Badhai Aap Ahankaaree ||
किसै न बदै आपि अहंकारी ॥
One who thinks of no one else except his own prideful self
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
Dhharam Raae This Karae Khuaaree ||
धरम राइ तिसु करे खुआरी ॥
The Righteous Judge of Dharma shall expose his disgrace.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਿਟੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Jaa Kaa Mittai Abhimaan ||
गुर प्रसादि जा का मिटै अभिमानु ॥
One who, by Guru's Grace, eliminates his ego,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
So Jan Naanak Dharageh Paravaan ||2||
सो जनु नानक दरगह परवानु ॥२॥
O Nanak, becomes acceptable in the Court of the Lord. ||2||
ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਹਉ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
Kott Karam Karai Ho Dhhaarae ||
कोटि करम करै हउ धारे ॥
If someone does millions of good deeds, while acting in ego,
ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਰਥਾਰੇ ॥
Sram Paavai Sagalae Birathhaarae ||
स्रमु पावै सगले बिरथारे ॥
He shall incur only trouble; all this is in vain.
ਅਨਿਕ ਤਪਸਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥
Anik Thapasiaa Karae Ahankaar ||
अनिक तपसिआ करे अहंकार ॥
If someone performs great penance, while acting in selfishness and conceit,
ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥
Narak Surag Fir Fir Avathaar ||
नरक सुरग फिरि फिरि अवतार ॥
He shall be reincarnated into heaven and hell, over and over again.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਆਤਮ ਨਹੀ ਦ੍ਰਵੈ ॥
Anik Jathan Kar Aatham Nehee Dhravai ||
अनिक जतन करि आतम नही द्रवै ॥
He makes all sorts of efforts, but his soul is still not softened
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਗਵੈ ॥
Har Dharageh Kahu Kaisae Gavai ||
हरि दरगह कहु कैसे गवै ॥
How can he go to the Court of the Lord?
ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਜੋ ਭਲਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
Aapas Ko Jo Bhalaa Kehaavai ||
आपस कउ जो भला कहावै ॥
One who calls himself good
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਭਲਾਈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
Thisehi Bhalaaee Nikatt N Aavai ||
तिसहि भलाई निकटि न आवै ॥
Goodness shall not draw near him.
ਸਰਬ ਕੀ ਰੇਨ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Sarab Kee Raen Jaa Kaa Man Hoe ||
सरब की रेन जा का मनु होइ ॥
One whose mind is the dust of all
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
Kahu Naanak Thaa Kee Niramal Soe ||3||
कहु नानक ता की निरमल सोइ ॥३॥
- says Nanak, his reputation is spotlessly pure. ||3||
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਮੁਝ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jab Lag Jaanai Mujh Thae Kashh Hoe ||
जब लगु जानै मुझ ते कछु होइ ॥
As long as someone thinks that he is the one who acts,
ਤਬ ਇਸ ਕਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
Thab Eis Ko Sukh Naahee Koe ||
तब इस कउ सुखु नाही कोइ ॥
He shall have no peace.
ਜਬ ਇਹ ਜਾਨੈ ਮੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
Jab Eih Jaanai Mai Kishh Karathaa ||
जब इह जानै मै किछु करता ॥
As long as this mortal thinks that he is the one who does things,
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਤਾ ॥
Thab Lag Garabh Jon Mehi Firathaa ||
तब लगु गरभ जोनि महि फिरता ॥
He shall wander in reincarnation through the womb.
ਜਬ ਧਾਰੈ ਕੋਊ ਬੈਰੀ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
Jab Dhhaarai Kooo Bairee Meeth ||
जब धारै कोऊ बैरी मीतु ॥
As long as he considers one an enemy, and another a friend,
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
Thab Lag Nihachal Naahee Cheeth ||
तब लगु निहचलु नाही चीतु ॥
His mind shall not come to rest.
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇ ॥
Jab Lag Moh Magan Sang Maae ||
जब लगु मोह मगन संगि माइ ॥
As long as he is intoxicated with attachment to Maya,
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
Thab Lag Dhharam Raae Dhaee Sajaae ||
तब लगु धरम राइ देइ सजाइ ॥
The Righteous Judge shall punish him.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੈ ॥
Prabh Kirapaa Thae Bandhhan Thoottai ||
प्रभ किरपा ते बंधन तूटै ॥
By God's Grace, his bonds are shattered;
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੪॥
Gur Prasaadh Naanak Ho Shhoottai ||4||
गुर प्रसादि नानक हउ छूटै ॥४॥
By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, his ego is eliminated. ||4||
ਸਹਸ ਖਟੇ ਲਖ ਕਉ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
Sehas Khattae Lakh Ko Outh Dhhaavai ||
सहस खटे लख कउ उठि धावै ॥
Earning a thousand, he runs after a hundred thousand.
