ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

उरि धारै जो अंतरि नामु ॥
One who enshrines the Naam within the heart,
ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
Sarab Mai Paekhai Bhagavaan ||
सरब मै पेखै भगवानु ॥
Who sees the Lord God in all,
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
Nimakh Nimakh Thaakur Namasakaarai ||
निमख निमख ठाकुर नमसकारै ॥
Who, each and every moment, bows in reverence to the Lord Master
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਰਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥

One whose tongue does not touch falsehood;
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦਰਸ ॥
Man Mehi Preeth Niranjan Dharas ||
मन महि प्रीति निरंजन दरस ॥
Whose mind is filled with love for the Blessed Vision of the Pure Lord,
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ॥

पर त्रिअ रूपु न पेखै नेत्र ॥
Whose eyes do not gaze upon the beauty of others' wives,
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥

साध की टहल संतसंगि हेत ॥
Who serves the Holy and loves the Saints' Congregation,
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ॥

करन न सुनै काहू की निंदा ॥
Whose ears do not listen to slander against anyone,
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
Sabh Thae Jaanai Aapas Ko Mandhaa ||
सभ ते जानै आपस कउ मंदा ॥
Who deems himself to be the worst of all,
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Bikhiaa Pareharai ||
गुर प्रसादि बिखिआ परहरै ॥
Who, by Guru's Grace, renounces corruption,
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥
Man Kee Baasanaa Man Thae Ttarai ||
मन की बासना मन ते टरै ॥
Who banishes the mind's evil desires from his mind,
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਜਿਤ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ॥
Eindhree Jith Panch Dhokh Thae Rehath ||
इंद्री जित पंच दोख ते रहत ॥
Who conquers his sexual instincts and is free of the five sinful passions
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਅਪਰਸ ॥੧॥
Naanak Kott Madhhae Ko Aisaa Aparas ||1||
नानक कोटि मधे को ऐसा अपरस ॥१॥
- O Nanak, among millions, there is scarcely one such 'touch-nothing Saint'. ||1||
ਬੈਸਨੋ ਸੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥

बैसनो सो जिसु ऊपरि सुप्रसंन ॥
The true Vaishnaav, the devotee of Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased.
ਬਿਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਭਿੰਨ ॥
Bisan Kee Maaeiaa Thae Hoe Bhinn ||
बिसन की माइआ ते होइ भिंन ॥
He dwells apart from Maya.
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥
Karam Karath Hovai Nihakaram ||
करम करत होवै निहकरम ॥
Performing good deeds, he does not seek rewards.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥
This Baisano Kaa Niramal Dhharam ||
तिसु बैसनो का निरमल धरम ॥
Spotlessly pure is the religion of such a Vaishnaav;
ਕਾਹੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥
Kaahoo Fal Kee Eishhaa Nehee Baashhai ||
काहू फल की इछा नही बाछै ॥
He has no desire for the fruits of his labors.
ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ॥
Kaeval Bhagath Keerathan Sang Raachai ||
केवल भगति कीरतन संगि राचै ॥
He is absorbed in devotional worship and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord's Glory.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
Man Than Anthar Simaran Gopaal ||
मन तन अंतरि सिमरन गोपाल ॥
Within his mind and body, he meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
Sabh Oopar Hovath Kirapaal ||
सभ ऊपरि होवत किरपाल ॥
He is kind to all creatures.
ਆਪਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥
Aap Dhrirrai Avareh Naam Japaavai ||
आपि द्रिड़ै अवरह नामु जपावै ॥
He holds fast to the Naam, and inspires others to chant it.
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
Naanak Ouhu Baisano Param Gath Paavai ||2||
नानक ओहु बैसनो परम गति पावै ॥२॥
O Nanak, such a Vaishnaav obtains the supreme status. ||2||
ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
Bhagouthee Bhagavanth Bhagath Kaa Rang ||
भगउती भगवंत भगति का रंगु ॥
The true Bhagaautee, the devotee of Adi Shakti, loves the devotional worship of God.
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
Sagal Thiaagai Dhusatt Kaa Sang ||
सगल तिआगै दुसट का संगु ॥
He forsakes the company of all wicked people.
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਰਮੁ ॥
Man Thae Binasai Sagalaa Bharam ||
मन ते बिनसै सगला भरमु ॥
All doubts are removed from his mind.
ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜੈ ਸਗਲ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥
Kar Poojai Sagal Paarabreham ||
करि पूजै सगल पारब्रहमु ॥
He performs devotional service to the Supreme Lord God in all.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
Saadhhasang Paapaa Mal Khovai ||
साधसंगि पापा मलु खोवै ॥
In the Company of the Holy, the filth of sin is washed away.
ਤਿਸੁ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
This Bhagouthee Kee Math Ootham Hovai ||
तिसु भगउती की मति ऊतम होवै ॥
The wisdom of such a Bhagaautee becomes supreme.
ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥
Bhagavanth Kee Ttehal Karai Nith Neeth ||
भगवंत की टहल करै नित नीति ॥
He constantly performs the service of the Supreme Lord God.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੈ ਬਿਸਨ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
Man Than Arapai Bisan Pareeth ||
मनु तनु अरपै बिसन परीति ॥
He dedicates his mind and body to the Love of God.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
Har Kae Charan Hiradhai Basaavai ||
हरि के चरन हिरदै बसावै ॥
The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide in his heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
Naanak Aisaa Bhagouthee Bhagavanth Ko Paavai ||3||
नानक ऐसा भगउती भगवंत कउ पावै ॥३॥
O Nanak, such a Bhagaautee attains the Lord God. ||3||
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥
So Panddith Jo Man Parabodhhai ||
सो पंडितु जो मनु परबोधै ॥
He is a true Pandit, a religious scholar, who instructs his own mind.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥
Raam Naam Aatham Mehi Sodhhai ||
राम नामु आतम महि सोधै ॥
He searches for the Lord's Name within his own soul.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੁ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
Raam Naam Saar Ras Peevai ||
राम नाम सारु रसु पीवै ॥
He drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of the Lord's Name.
ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
Ous Panddith Kai Oupadhaes Jag Jeevai ||
उसु पंडित कै उपदेसि जगु जीवै ॥
By that Pandit's teachings, the world lives.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
Har Kee Kathhaa Hiradhai Basaavai ||
हरि की कथा हिरदै बसावै ॥
He implants the Sermon of the Lord in his heart.
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
So Panddith Fir Jon N Aavai ||
सो पंडितु फिरि जोनि न आवै ॥
Such a Pandit is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again.
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਮੂਲ ॥
Baedh Puraan Simrith Boojhai Mool ||
बेद पुरान सिम्रिति बूझै मूल ॥
He understands the fundamental essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees.
ਸੂਖਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਸਥੂਲੁ ॥
Sookham Mehi Jaanai Asathhool ||
सूखम महि जानै असथूलु ॥
In the unmanifest, he sees the manifest world to exist.
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥
Chahu Varanaa Ko Dhae Oupadhaes ||
चहु वरना कउ दे उपदेसु ॥
He gives instruction to people of all castes and social classes.
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸੁ ॥੪॥
Naanak Ous Panddith Ko Sadhaa Adhaes ||4||
नानक उसु पंडित कउ सदा अदेसु ॥४॥
O Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in salutation forever. ||4||
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
Beej Manthra Sarab Ko Giaan ||
बीज मंत्रु सरब को गिआनु ॥
The Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra, is spiritual wisdom for everyone.
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Chahu Varanaa Mehi Japai Kooo Naam ||
चहु वरना महि जपै कोऊ नामु ॥
Anyone, from any class, may chant the Naam.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jo Jo Japai This Kee Gath Hoe ||
जो जो जपै तिस की गति होइ ॥
Whoever chants it, is emancipated.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
Saadhhasang Paavai Jan Koe ||
साधसंगि पावै जनु कोइ ॥
And yet, rare are those who attain it, in the Company of the Holy.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Anthar Our Dhhaarai ||
करि किरपा अंतरि उर धारै ॥
By His Grace, He enshrines it within.
ਪਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਮੁਘਦ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਤਾਰੈ ॥
Pas Praeth Mughadh Paathhar Ko Thaarai ||
पसु प्रेत मुघद पाथर कउ तारै ॥
Even beasts, ghosts and the stone-hearted are saved.
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਅਉਖਦੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Sarab Rog Kaa Aoukhadh Naam ||
सरब रोग का अउखदु नामु ॥
The Naam is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills.
ਕਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥
Kaliaan Roop Mangal Gun Gaam ||
कलिआण रूप मंगल गुण गाम ॥
Singing the Glory of God is the embodiment of bliss and emancipation.
ਕਾਹੂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਧਰਮਿ ॥
Kaahoo Jugath Kithai N Paaeeai Dhharam ||
काहू जुगति कितै न पाईऐ धरमि ॥
It cannot be obtained by any religious rituals.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ॥੫॥
Naanak This Milai Jis Likhiaa Dhhur Karam ||5||
नानक तिसु मिलै जिसु लिखिआ धुरि करमि ॥५॥
O Nanak, he alone obtains it, whose karma is so pre-ordained. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
