ਗਨਿ ਮਿਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਚਲਨੋ ਲੋਗ ॥
Gan Min Dhaekhahu Manai Maahi Sarapar Chalano Log ||
गनि मिनि देखहु मनै माहि सरपर चलनो लोग ॥
See, that even by calculating and scheming in their minds, people must surely depart in the end.
ਆਸ ਅਨਿਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਰੋਗ ॥੧॥
Aas Anith Guramukh Mittai Naanak Naam Arog ||1||
आस अनित गुरमुखि मिटै नानक नाम अरोग ॥१॥
Hopes and desires for transitory things are erased for the Gurmukh; O Nanak, the Name alone brings true health. ||1||

गगा गोबिद गुण रवहु सासि सासि जपि नीत ॥
GAGGA: Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe with each and every breath; meditate on Him forever.
ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਸਾ ਦੇਹ ਕਾ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਕਰਿਹੋ ਮੀਤ ॥
Kehaa Bisaasaa Dhaeh Kaa Bilam N Kariho Meeth ||
कहा बिसासा देह का बिलम न करिहो मीत ॥
How can you rely on the body? Do not delay, my friend;
ਨਹ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਨਹ ਜੋਬਨੈ ਨਹ ਬਿਰਧੀ ਕਛੁ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
Neh Baarik Neh Jobanai Neh Biradhhee Kashh Bandhh ||
नह बारिक नह जोबनै नह बिरधी कछु बंधु ॥
There is nothing to stand in Death's way - neither in childhood, nor in youth, nor in old age.
ਓਹ ਬੇਰਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਜਉ ਆਇ ਪਰੈ ਜਮ ਫੰਧੁ ॥
Ouh Baeraa Neh Boojheeai Jo Aae Parai Jam Fandhh ||
ओह बेरा नह बूझीऐ जउ आइ परै जम फंधु ॥
That time is not known, when the noose of Death shall come and fall on you.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਚਤੁਰ ਪੇਖਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਹ ਠਾਇ ॥
Giaanee Dhhiaanee Chathur Paekh Rehan Nehee Eih Thaae ||
गिआनी धिआनी चतुर पेखि रहनु नही इह ठाइ ॥
See, that even spiritual scholars, those who meditate, and those who are clever shall not stay in this place.
ਛਾਡਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਗਈ ਮੂੜ ਤਹਾ ਲਪਟਾਹਿ ॥
Shhaadd Shhaadd Sagalee Gee Moorr Thehaa Lapattaahi ||
छाडि छाडि सगली गई मूड़ तहा लपटाहि ॥
Only the fool clings to that, which everyone else has abandoned and left behind.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਜਾਹੂ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Simarath Rehai Jaahoo Masathak Bhaag ||
गुर प्रसादि सिमरत रहै जाहू मसतकि भाग ॥
By Guru's Grace, one who has such good destiny written on his forehead remembers the Lord in meditation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਏ ਸਫਲ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਅਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਗ ॥੧੯॥
Naanak Aaeae Safal Thae Jaa Ko Priahi Suhaag ||19||
नानक आए सफल ते जा कउ प्रिअहि सुहाग ॥१९॥
O Nanak, blessed and fruitful is the coming of those who obtain the Beloved Lord as their Husband. ||19||

ਘੋਖੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸਭ ਆਨ ਨ ਕਥਤਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
Ghokhae Saasathr Baedh Sabh Aan N Kathhatho Koe ||
घोखे सासत्र बेद सभ आन न कथतउ कोइ ॥
I have searched all the Shaastras and the Vedas, and they say nothing except this:
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੁਣਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Aadh Jugaadhee Hun Hovath Naanak Eaekai Soe ||1||
आदि जुगादी हुणि होवत नानक एकै सोइ ॥१॥
"In the beginning, throughout the ages, now and forevermore, O Nanak, the One Lord alone exists."||1||

घघा घालहु मनहि एह बिनु हरि दूसर नाहि ॥
GHAGHA: Put this into your mind, that there is no one except the Lord.
ਨਹ ਹੋਆ ਨਹ ਹੋਵਨਾ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਓਹੀ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
Neh Hoaa Neh Hovanaa Jath Kath Ouhee Samaahi ||
नह होआ नह होवना जत कत ओही समाहि ॥
There never was, and there never shall be. He is pervading everywhere.
ਘੂਲਹਿ ਤਉ ਮਨ ਜਉ ਆਵਹਿ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
Ghoolehi Tho Man Jo Aavehi Saranaa ||
घूलहि तउ मन जउ आवहि सरना ॥
You shall be absorbed into Him, O mind, if you come to His Sanctuary.
ਨਾਮ ਤਤੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨਾ ॥
Naam Thath Kal Mehi Punehacharanaa ||
नाम ततु कलि महि पुनहचरना ॥
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be of any real use to you.
ਘਾਲਿ ਘਾਲਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥
Ghaal Ghaal Anik Pashhuthaavehi ||
घालि घालि अनिक पछुतावहि ॥
So many work and slave continually, but they come to regret and repent in the end.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਹਾ ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
Bin Har Bhagath Kehaa Thhith Paavehi ||
बिनु हरि भगति कहा थिति पावहि ॥
Without devotional worship of the Lord, how can they find stability?
ਘੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਿਹ ਪੀਆ ॥
Ghol Mehaa Ras Anmrith Thih Peeaa ||
घोलि महा रसु अम्रितु तिह पीआ ॥
They alone taste the supreme essence, and drink in the Ambrosial Nectar,
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ॥੨੦॥
Naanak Har Gur Jaa Ko Dheeaa ||20||
नानक हरि गुरि जा कउ दीआ ॥२०॥
O Nanak, unto whom the Lord, the Guru, gives it. ||20||

ਙਣਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਦਿਵਸ ਸਾਸ ਨਹ ਬਢਨ ਘਟਨ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਾਰ ॥
N(g)an Ghaalae Sabh Dhivas Saas Neh Badtan Ghattan Thil Saar ||
ङणि घाले सभ दिवस सास नह बढन घटन तिलु सार ॥
He has counted all the days and the breaths, and placed them in people's destiny; they do not increase or decrease one little bit.
ਜੀਵਨ ਲੋਰਹਿ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਊ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
Jeevan Lorehi Bharam Moh Naanak Thaeoo Gavaar ||1||
जीवन लोरहि भरम मोह नानक तेऊ गवार ॥१॥
Those who long to live in doubt and emotional attachment, O Nanak, are total fools. ||1||

NGANGA: Death seizes those whom God has made into faithless cynics.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ ॥
Anik Jon Janamehi Marehi Aatham Raam N Cheen ||
अनिक जोनि जनमहि मरहि आतम रामु न चीन ॥
They are born and they die, enduring countless incarnations; they do not realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul.
ਙਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਆਏ ॥

ङिआन धिआन ताहू कउ आए ॥
They alone find spiritual wisdom and meditation,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਹ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਏ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Jih Aap Dhivaaeae ||
करि किरपा जिह आपि दिवाए ॥
Whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy;
ਙਣਤੀ ਙਣੀ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਛੂਟੈ ॥

ङणती ङणी नही कोऊ छूटै ॥
No one is emancipated by counting and calculating.
ਕਾਚੀ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਫੂਟੈ ॥
Kaachee Gaagar Sarapar Foottai ||
काची गागरि सरपर फूटै ॥
The vessel of clay shall surely break.
ਸੋ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਿਹ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਪਿਆ ॥
So Jeevath Jih Jeevath Japiaa ||
सो जीवत जिह जीवत जपिआ ॥
They alone live, who, while alive, meditate on the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਪਿਆ ॥੨੧॥

प्रगट भए नानक नह छपिआ ॥२१॥
They are respected, O Nanak, and do not remain hidden. ||21||

चिति चितवउ चरणारबिंद ऊध कवल बिगसांत ॥
Focus your consciousness on His Lotus Feet, and the inverted lotus of your heart shall blossom forth.

धनि धनि उआ दिन संजोग सभागा ॥
I became attached to the Lord's Lotus Feet.
ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
Chaar Kuntt Dheh Dhis Bhram Aaeiou ||
चारि कुंट दह दिसि भ्रमि आइओ ॥
After wandering around in the four quarters and the ten directions,
ਭਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤਬ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
Bhee Kirapaa Thab Dharasan Paaeiou ||
भई क्रिपा तब दरसनु पाइओ ॥
God showed His Mercy to me, and then I obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਚਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਸਭ ਦੂਆ ॥
Chaar Bichaar Binasiou Sabh Dhooaa ||
चार बिचार बिनसिओ सभ दूआ ॥
By pure lifestyle and meditation, all duality is removed.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੂਆ ॥

साधसंगि मनु निरमल हूआ ॥
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mind becomes immaculate.
ਚਿੰਤ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥
Chinth Bisaaree Eaek Dhrisattaethaa ||
चिंत बिसारी एक द्रिसटेता ॥
Anxieties are forgotten, and the One Lord alone is seen,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਜਿਹ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ॥੨੨॥

नानक गिआन अंजनु जिह नेत्रा ॥२२॥
O Nanak, by those whose eyes are anointed with the ointment of spiritual wisdom. ||22||

छाती सीतल मनु सुखी छंत गोबिद गुन गाइ ॥
The heart is cooled and soothed, and the mind is at peace, chanting and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਐਸੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇ ॥੧॥
Aisee Kirapaa Karahu Prabh Naanak Dhaas Dhasaae ||1||
ऐसी किरपा करहु प्रभ नानक दास दसाइ ॥१॥
Show such Mercy, O God, that Nanak may become the slave of Your slaves. ||1||

I am the water-carrier of the slave of Your slaves.
ਛਛਾ ਛਾਰੁ ਹੋਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾ ॥

छछा छारु होत तेरे संता ॥
Chhachha: I long to become the dust under the feet of Your Saints.
