जिना सासि गिरासि न विसरै से पूरे पुरख परधान ॥
Those who do not forget the Lord, with each and every breath and morsel of food, are the perfect and famous persons.
ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਗੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
Karamee Sathigur Paaeeai Anadhin Lagai Dhhiaan ||
करमी सतिगुरु पाईऐ अनदिनु लगै धिआनु ॥
By His Grace they find the True Guru; night and day, they meditate.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
Thin Kee Sangath Mil Rehaa Dharageh Paaee Maan ||
तिन की संगति मिलि रहा दरगह पाई मानु ॥
I join the society of those persons, and in so doing, I am honored in the Court of the Lord.
ਸਉਦੇ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਉਠਦੇ ਭੀ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
Soudhae Vaahu Vaahu Oucharehi Outhadhae Bhee Vaahu Karaen ||
सउदे वाहु वाहु उचरहि उठदे भी वाहु करेनि ॥
While asleep, they chant, ""Waaho! Waaho!"", and while awake, they chant, ""Waaho!"" as well.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਜਿ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਸੰਮਾਲੇਨਿ ॥੧॥
Naanak Thae Mukh Oujalae J Nith Outh Sanmaalaen ||1||
नानक ते मुख उजले जि नित उठि समालेनि ॥१॥
O Nanak, radiant are the faces of those, who rise up early each day, and dwell upon the Lord. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
Sathigur Saeveeai Aapanaa Paaeeai Naam Apaar ||
सतिगुरु सेवीऐ आपणा पाईऐ नामु अपारु ॥
Serving his True Guru, one obtains the Naam, the Name of the Infinite Lord.
ਭਉਜਲਿ ਡੁਬਦਿਆ ਕਢਿ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
Bhoujal Ddubadhiaa Kadt Leae Har Dhaath Karae Dhaathaar ||
भउजलि डुबदिआ कढि लए हरि दाति करे दातारु ॥
The drowning person is lifted up and out of the terrifying world-ocean; the Great Giver gives the gift of the Lord's Name.
ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੇ ਸਾਹ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
Dhhann Dhhann Sae Saah Hai J Naam Karehi Vaapaar ||
धंनु धंनु से साह है जि नामि करहि वापारु ॥
Blessed, blessed are those bankers who trade the Naam.
ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਸਿਖ ਆਵਦੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਘਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Vanajaarae Sikh Aavadhae Sabadh Laghaavanehaar ||
वणजारे सिख आवदे सबदि लघावणहारु ॥
The Sikhs, the traders come, and through the Word of His Shabad, they are carried across.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭਈ ਤਿਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
Jan Naanak Jin Ko Kirapaa Bhee Thin Saeviaa Sirajanehaar ||2||
जन नानक जिन कउ क्रिपा भई तिन सेविआ सिरजणहारु ॥२॥

Sach Sachae Kae Jan Bhagath Hehi Sach Sachaa Jinee Araadhhiaa ||
सचु सचे के जन भगत हहि सचु सचा जिनी अराधिआ ॥
Those who truly worship and adore the True Lord, are truly the humble devotees of the True Lord.
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਢੰਢੋਲਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਧਿਆ ॥
Jin Guramukh Khoj Dtandtoliaa Thin Andharahu Hee Sach Laadhhiaa ||
जिन गुरमुखि खोजि ढंढोलिआ तिन अंदरहु ही सचु लाधिआ ॥
Those Gurmukhs who search and seek, find the True One within themselves.
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਤਿਨੀ ਸਾਧਿਆ ॥
Sach Saahib Sach Jinee Saeviaa Kaal Kanttak Maar Thinee Saadhhiaa ||
सचु साहिबु सचु जिनी सेविआ कालु कंटकु मारि तिनी साधिआ ॥
Those who truly serve their True Lord and Master, overwhelm and conquer Death, the torturer.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਭ ਦੂ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਲਾਧਿਆ ॥
Sach Sachaa Sabh Dhoo Vaddaa Hai Sach Saevan Sae Sach Ralaadhhiaa ||
सचु सचा सभ दू वडा है सचु सेवनि से सचि रलाधिआ ॥
The True One is truly the greatest of all; those who serve the True One are blended with the True One.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਫਲਾਧਿਆ ॥੨੨॥
Sach Sachae No Saabaas Hai Sach Sachaa Saev Falaadhhiaa ||22||
सचु सचे नो साबासि है सचु सचा सेवि फलाधिआ ॥२२॥
Blessed and acclaimed is the Truest of the True; serving the Truest of the True, one blossoms forth in fruition. ||22||

Shalok, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਹੀਣ ਭਰਮਾਇ ॥
Manamukh Praanee Mugadhh Hai Naameheen Bharamaae ||
मनमुखु प्राणी मुगधु है नामहीण भरमाइ ॥
The self-willed manmukh is foolish; he wanders around without the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨੂਆ ਨਾ ਟਿਕੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
Bin Gur Manooaa Naa Ttikai Fir Fir Joonee Paae ||
बिनु गुर मनूआ ना टिकै फिरि फिरि जूनी पाइ ॥
Without the Guru, his mind is not held steady, and he is reincarnated, over and over again.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
Har Prabh Aap Dhaeiaal Hohi Thaan Sathigur Miliaa Aae ||
हरि प्रभु आपि दइआल होहि तां सतिगुरु मिलिआ आइ ॥
But when the Lord God Himself becomes merciful to him, then the True Guru comes to meet him.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Jan Naanak Naam Salaahi Thoo Janam Maran Dhukh Jaae ||1||
जन नानक नामु सलाहि तू जनम मरण दुखु जाइ ॥१॥
O servant Nanak, praise the Naam; the pains of birth and death shall come to an end. ||1||

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
Gur Saalaahee Aapanaa Bahu Bidhh Rang Subhaae ||
गुरु सालाही आपणा बहु बिधि रंगि सुभाइ ॥
I praise my Guru in so many ways, with joyful love and affection.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Saethee Man Rathaa Rakhiaa Banath Banaae ||
सतिगुर सेती मनु रता रखिआ बणत बणाइ ॥
My mind is imbued with the True Guru; He has preserved the make of its making.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਨ ਰਜਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
Jihavaa Saalaahi N Rajee Har Preetham Chith Laae ||
जिहवा सालाहि न रजई हरि प्रीतम चितु लाइ ॥
My tongue is not satisfied by praising Him; He has linked my consciousness with the Lord, my Beloved.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਭੁਖ ਹੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Naavai Kee Man Bhukh Hai Man Thripathai Har Ras Khaae ||2||
नानक नावै की मनि भुख है मनु त्रिपतै हरि रसु खाइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, my mind hungers for the Name of the Lord; my mind is satisfied, tasting the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||

Sach Sachaa Kudharath Jaaneeai Dhin Raathee Jin Banaaeeaa ||
सचु सचा कुदरति जाणीऐ दिनु राती जिनि बणाईआ ॥
The True Lord is truly known for His all-powerful creative nature; He fashioned the days and the nights.
ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਕੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ॥
So Sach Salaahee Sadhaa Sadhaa Sach Sachae Keeaa Vaddiaaeeaa ||
सो सचु सलाही सदा सदा सचु सचे कीआ वडिआईआ ॥
I praise that True Lord, forever and ever; True is the glorious greatness of the True Lord.
ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ॥
Saalaahee Sach Salaah Sach Sach Keemath Kinai N Paaeeaa ||
सालाही सचु सलाह सचु सचु कीमति किनै न पाईआ ॥
True are the Praises of the Praiseworthy True Lord; the value of the True Lord cannot be appraised.
ਜਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤਾ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਈਆ ॥
Jaa Miliaa Pooraa Sathiguroo Thaa Haajar Nadharee Aaeeaa ||
जा मिलिआ पूरा सतिगुरू ता हाजरु नदरी आईआ ॥
When someone meets the Perfect True Guru, then His Sublime Presence comes to be seen.
ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਭੁਖਾ ਸਭਿ ਗਵਾਈਆ ॥੨੩॥
Sach Guramukh Jinee Salaahiaa Thinaa Bhukhaa Sabh Gavaaeeaa ||23||
सचु गुरमुखि जिनी सलाहिआ तिना भुखा सभि गवाईआ ॥२३॥
Those Gurmukhs who praise the True Lord - all their hunger is gone. ||23||

ਮੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜੇਦਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਧਾ ਲੋੜਿ ॥
Mai Man Than Khoj Khojaedhiaa So Prabh Ladhhaa Lorr ||
मै मनु तनु खोजि खोजेदिआ सो प्रभु लधा लोड़ि ॥
Searching and examining my mind and body, I have found that God, whom I longed for.
ਵਿਸਟੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਜੋੜਿ ॥੧॥
Visatt Guroo Mai Paaeiaa Jin Har Prabh Dhithaa Jorr ||1||
विसटु गुरू मै पाइआ जिनि हरि प्रभु दिता जोड़ि ॥१॥
I have found the Guru, the Divine Intermediary, who has united me with the Lord God. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ਅਤਿ ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ ॥
Maaeiaadhhaaree Ath Annaa Bolaa ||
माइआधारी अति अंना बोला ॥
One who is attached to Maya is totally blind and deaf.
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਸੁਣਈ ਬਹੁ ਰੋਲ ਘਚੋਲਾ ॥
Sabadh N Sunee Bahu Rol Ghacholaa ||
सबदु न सुणई बहु रोल घचोला ॥
He does not listen to the Word of the Shabad; he makes a great uproar and tumult.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
Guramukh Jaapai Sabadh Liv Laae ||
गुरमुखि जापै सबदि लिव लाइ ॥
The Gurmukhs chant and meditate on the Shabad, and lovingly center their consciousness on it.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Har Naam Sun Mannae Har Naam Samaae ||
हरि नामु सुणि मंने हरि नामि समाइ ॥
They hear and believe in the Name of the Lord; they are absorbed in the Name of the Lord.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
Jo This Bhaavai S Karae Karaaeiaa ||
जो तिसु भावै सु करे कराइआ ॥
Whatever pleases God, He causes that to be done.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਜਦਾ ਜੰਤੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Naanak Vajadhaa Janth Vajaaeiaa ||2||
नानक वजदा जंतु वजाइआ ॥२॥
O Nanak, human beings are the instruments which vibrate as God plays them. ||2||
