जनम जनम के किलबिख जाहि ॥
The sins of countless lifetimes shall depart.
ਆਪਿ ਜਪਹੁ ਅਵਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
Aap Japahu Avaraa Naam Japaavahu ||
आपि जपहु अवरा नामु जपावहु ॥
Chant the Naam yourself, and inspire others to chant it as well.
ਸੁਨਤ ਕਹਤ ਰਹਤ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
Sunath Kehath Rehath Gath Paavahu ||
सुनत कहत रहत गति पावहु ॥
Hearing, speaking and living it, emancipation is obtained.
ਸਾਰ ਭੂਤ ਸਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
Saar Bhooth Sath Har Ko Naao ||
सार भूत सति हरि को नाउ ॥
The essential reality is the True Name of the Lord.
ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੬॥
Sehaj Subhaae Naanak Gun Gaao ||6||
सहजि सुभाइ नानक गुन गाउ ॥६॥
With intuitive ease, O Nanak, sing His Glorious Praises. ||6||
ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਮੈਲੁ ॥
Gun Gaavath Thaeree Outharas Mail ||
गुन गावत तेरी उतरसि मैलु ॥
Chanting His Glories, your filth shall be washed off.
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਫੈਲੁ ॥
Binas Jaae Houmai Bikh Fail ||
बिनसि जाइ हउमै बिखु फैलु ॥
The all-consuming poison of ego will be gone.
ਹੋਹਿ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਖ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Hohi Achinth Basai Sukh Naal ||
होहि अचिंतु बसै सुख नालि ॥
You shall become carefree, and you shall dwell in peace.
ਸਾਸਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
Saas Graas Har Naam Samaal ||
सासि ग्रासि हरि नामु समालि ॥
With every breath and every morsel of food, cherish the Lord's Name.
ਛਾਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲੀ ਮਨਾ ॥
Shhaadd Siaanap Sagalee Manaa ||
छाडि सिआनप सगली मना ॥
Renounce all clever tricks, O mind.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਧਨਾ ॥
Saadhhasang Paavehi Sach Dhhanaa ||
साधसंगि पावहि सचु धना ॥
In the Company of the Holy, you shall obtain the true wealth.
ਹਰਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸੰਚਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥
Har Poonjee Sanch Karahu Biouhaar ||
हरि पूंजी संचि करहु बिउहारु ॥
So gather the Lord's Name as your capital, and trade in it.
ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥
Eehaa Sukh Dharageh Jaikaar ||
ईहा सुखु दरगह जैकारु ॥
In this world you shall be at peace, and in the Court of the Lord, you shall be acclaimed.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਦੇਖੁ ॥
Sarab Niranthar Eaeko Dhaekh ||
सरब निरंतरि एको देखु ॥
See the One permeating all;
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥੭॥

कहु नानक जा कै मसतकि लेखु ॥७॥
Says Nanak, your destiny is pre-ordained. ||7||
ਏਕੋ ਜਪਿ ਏਕੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
Eaeko Jap Eaeko Saalaahi ||
एको जपि एको सालाहि ॥
Meditate on the One, and worship the One.
ਏਕੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਮਨ ਆਹਿ ॥
Eaek Simar Eaeko Man Aahi ||
एकु सिमरि एको मन आहि ॥
Remember the One, and yearn for the One in your mind.
ਏਕਸ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ਅਨੰਤ ॥
Eaekas Kae Gun Gaao Ananth ||
एकस के गुन गाउ अनंत ॥
Sing the endless Glorious Praises of the One.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਾਪਿ ਏਕ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
Man Than Jaap Eaek Bhagavanth ||
मनि तनि जापि एक भगवंत ॥
With mind and body, meditate on the One Lord God.
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ॥
Eaeko Eaek Eaek Har Aap ||
एको एकु एकु हरि आपि ॥
The One Lord Himself is the One and Only.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥
Pooran Poor Rehiou Prabh Biaap ||
पूरन पूरि रहिओ प्रभु बिआपि ॥
The Pervading Lord God is totally permeating all.
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ਏਕ ਤੇ ਭਏ ॥
Anik Bisathhaar Eaek Thae Bheae ||
अनिक बिसथार एक ते भए ॥
The many expanses of the creation have all come from the One.
ਏਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਗਏ ॥
Eaek Araadhh Paraashhath Geae ||
एकु अराधि पराछत गए ॥
Adoring the One, past sins are removed.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Man Than Anthar Eaek Prabh Raathaa ||
मन तन अंतरि एकु प्रभु राता ॥
Mind and body within are imbued with the One God.

फिरत फिरत प्रभ आइआ परिआ तउ सरनाइ ॥
After wandering and wandering, O God, I have come, and entered Your Sanctuary.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

I am a beggar; I beg for this gift from You:
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Dhaevahu Har Naam ||
करि किरपा देवहु हरि नामु ॥
Please, by Your Mercy, Lord, give me Your Name.
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਗਉ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
Saadhh Janaa Kee Maago Dhhoor ||
साध जना की मागउ धूरि ॥
I ask for the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥

पारब्रहम मेरी सरधा पूरि ॥
O Supreme Lord God, please fulfill my yearning;
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉ ॥
Sadhaa Sadhaa Prabh Kae Gun Gaavo ||
सदा सदा प्रभ के गुन गावउ ॥
May I sing the Glorious Praises of God forever and ever.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥

सासि सासि प्रभ तुमहि धिआवउ ॥
With each and every breath, may I meditate on You, O God.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

चरन कमल सिउ लागै प्रीति ॥
May I enshrine affection for Your Lotus Feet.
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥
Bhagath Karo Prabh Kee Nith Neeth ||
भगति करउ प्रभ की नित नीति ॥
May I perform devotional worship to God each and every day.
ਏਕ ਓਟ ਏਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
Eaek Outt Eaeko Aadhhaar ||
एक ओट एको आधारु ॥
You are my only Shelter, my only Support.

नानकु मागै नामु प्रभ सारु ॥१॥
Nanak asks for the most sublime, the Naam, the Name of God. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
Prabh Kee Dhrisatt Mehaa Sukh Hoe ||
प्रभ की द्रिसटि महा सुखु होइ ॥
By God's Gracious Glance, there is great peace.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਇ ॥
Har Ras Paavai Biralaa Koe ||
हरि रसु पावै बिरला कोइ ॥
Rare are those who obtain the juice of the Lord's essence.
ਜਿਨ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੇ ॥
Jin Chaakhiaa Sae Jan Thripathaanae ||
जिन चाखिआ से जन त्रिपताने ॥
Those who taste it are satisfied.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਹੀ ਡੋਲਾਨੇ ॥
Pooran Purakh Nehee Ddolaanae ||
पूरन पुरख नही डोलाने ॥
They are fulfilled and realized beings - they do not waver.
ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
Subhar Bharae Praem Ras Rang ||
सुभर भरे प्रेम रस रंगि ॥
They are totally filled to over-flowing with the sweet delight of His Love.
ਉਪਜੈ ਚਾਉ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
Oupajai Chaao Saadhh Kai Sang ||
उपजै चाउ साध कै संगि ॥
Spiritual delight wells up within, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਪਰੇ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਨ ਸਭ ਤਿਆਗਿ ॥
Parae Saran Aan Sabh Thiaag ||
परे सरनि आन सभ तिआगि ॥
Taking to His Sanctuary, they forsake all others.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਿ ॥
Anthar Pragaas Anadhin Liv Laag ||
अंतरि प्रगास अनदिनु लिव लागि ॥
Deep within, they are enlightened, and they center themselves on Him, day and night.
ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਪਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
Baddabhaagee Japiaa Prabh Soe ||
बडभागी जपिआ प्रभु सोइ ॥
Most fortunate are those who meditate on God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
Naanak Naam Rathae Sukh Hoe ||2||
नानक नामि रते सुखु होइ ॥२॥
O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, they are at peace. ||2||
ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਭਈ ॥
Saevak Kee Manasaa Pooree Bhee ||
सेवक की मनसा पूरी भई ॥
The wishes of the Lord's servant are fulfilled.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਲਈ ॥
Sathigur Thae Niramal Math Lee ||
सतिगुर ते निरमल मति लई ॥
From the True Guru, the pure teachings are obtained.
ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਇਓ ਦਇਆਲੁ ॥
Jan Ko Prabh Hoeiou Dhaeiaal ||
जन कउ प्रभु होइओ दइआलु ॥
Unto His humble servant, God has shown His kindness.
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥
Saevak Keeno Sadhaa Nihaal ||
सेवकु कीनो सदा निहालु ॥
He has made His servant eternally happy.
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
Bandhhan Kaatt Mukath Jan Bhaeiaa ||
बंधन काटि मुकति जनु भइआ ॥
The bonds of His humble servant are cut away, and he is liberated.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
Janam Maran Dhookh Bhram Gaeiaa ||
जनम मरन दूखु भ्रमु गइआ ॥
The pains of birth and death, and doubt are gone.
ਇਛ ਪੁਨੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
Eishh Punee Saradhhaa Sabh Pooree ||
इछ पुनी सरधा सभ पूरी ॥
Desires are satisfied, and faith is fully rewarded,
ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਦ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਜੂਰੀ ॥
Rav Rehiaa Sadh Sang Hajooree ||
रवि रहिआ सद संगि हजूरी ॥
Imbued forever with His all-pervading peace.
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਲੀਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
Jis Kaa Saa Thin Leeaa Milaae ||
जिस का सा तिनि लीआ मिलाइ ॥
He is His - he merges in Union with Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
Naanak Bhagathee Naam Samaae ||3||
नानक भगती नामि समाइ ॥३॥
Nanak is absorbed in devotional worship of the Naam. ||3||
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਘਾਲ ਨ ਭਾਨੈ ॥
So Kio Bisarai J Ghaal N Bhaanai ||
सो किउ बिसरै जि घाल न भानै ॥
Why forget Him, who does not overlook our efforts?
ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਕੀਆ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
