He Himself gives His Name to those, upon whom He bestows His Mercy.

Thajahu Siaanap Sur Janahu Simarahu Har Har Raae ||
तजहु सिआनप सुरि जनहु सिमरहु हरि हरि राइ ॥
Give up your cleverness, good people - remember the Lord God, your King!
ਏਕ ਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਰਖਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Eaek Aas Har Man Rakhahu Naanak Dhookh Bharam Bho Jaae ||1||
एक आस हरि मनि रखहु नानक दूखु भरमु भउ जाइ ॥१॥
Enshrine in your heart, your hopes in the One Lord. O Nanak, your pain, doubt and fear shall depart. ||1||

ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਬ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਸਭ ਜਾਨੁ ॥

तजहु सिआनप सुरि जनहु सिमरहु हरि हरि राइ ॥
Reliance on mortals is in vain - know this well.
ਦੇਵਨ ਕਉ ਏਕੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
Dhaevan Ko Eaekai Bhagavaan ||
देवन कउ एकै भगवानु ॥
The Great Giver is the One Lord God.
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਦੀਐ ਰਹੈ ਅਘਾਇ ॥
Jis Kai Dheeai Rehai Aghaae ||
जिस कै दीऐ रहै अघाइ ॥
By His gifts, we are satisfied,
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥
Bahur N Thrisanaa Laagai Aae ||
बहुरि न त्रिसना लागै आइ ॥
And we suffer from thirst no longer.
ਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਖੈ ਏਕੋ ਆਪਿ ॥
Maarai Raakhai Eaeko Aap ||
मारै राखै एको आपि ॥
The One Lord Himself destroys and also preserves.
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
Maanukh Kai Kishh Naahee Haathh ||
मानुख कै किछु नाही हाथि ॥
Nothing at all is in the hands of mortal beings.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
This Kaa Hukam Boojh Sukh Hoe ||
तिस का हुकमु बूझि सुखु होइ ॥
Understanding His Order, there is peace.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਇ ॥
This Kaa Naam Rakh Kanth Paroe ||
तिस का नामु रखु कंठि परोइ ॥
So take His Name, and wear it as your necklace.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

सिमरि सिमरि सिमरि प्रभु सोइ ॥
Remember, remember, remember God in meditation.

उसतति मन महि करि निरंकार ॥
Praise the Formless Lord in your mind.
ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
Kar Man Maerae Sath Biouhaar ||
करि मन मेरे सति बिउहार ॥
O my mind, make this your true occupation.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਸਨਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਉ ॥
Niramal Rasanaa Anmrith Peeo ||
निरमल रसना अम्रितु पीउ ॥
Let your tongue become pure, drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥
Sadhaa Suhaelaa Kar Laehi Jeeo ||
सदा सुहेला करि लेहि जीउ ॥
Your soul shall be forever peaceful.
ਨੈਨਹੁ ਪੇਖੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
Nainahu Paekh Thaakur Kaa Rang ||
नैनहु पेखु ठाकुर का रंगु ॥
With your eyes, see the wondrous play of your Lord and Master.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਭ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
Saadhhasang Binasai Sabh Sang ||
साधसंगि बिनसै सभ संगु ॥
In the Company of the Holy, all other associations vanish.
ਚਰਨ ਚਲਉ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
Charan Chalo Maarag Gobindh ||
चरन चलउ मारगि गोबिंद ॥
With your feet, walk in the Way of the Lord.
ਮਿਟਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
Mittehi Paap Japeeai Har Bindh ||
मिटहि पाप जपीऐ हरि बिंद ॥
Sins are washed away, chanting the Lord's Name, even for a moment.
ਕਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ॥
Kar Har Karam Sravan Har Kathhaa ||
कर हरि करम स्रवनि हरि कथा ॥
So do the Lord's Work, and listen to the Lord's Sermon.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਊਜਲ ਮਥਾ ॥੨॥

हरि दरगह नानक ऊजल मथा ॥२॥
In the Lord's Court, O Nanak, your face shall be radiant. ||2||
ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Baddabhaagee Thae Jan Jag Maahi ||
बडभागी ते जन जग माहि ॥
Very fortunate are those humble beings in this world,
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਹਿ ॥
Sadhaa Sadhaa Har Kae Gun Gaahi ||
सदा सदा हरि के गुन गाहि ॥
Who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, forever and ever.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
Raam Naam Jo Karehi Beechaar ||
राम नाम जो करहि बीचार ॥
Those who dwell upon the Lord's Name,
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਗਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
Sae Dhhanavanth Ganee Sansaar ||
से धनवंत गनी संसार ॥
Are the most wealthy and prosperous in the world.
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਖੀ ॥
Man Than Mukh Bolehi Har Mukhee ||
मनि तनि मुखि बोलहि हरि मुखी ॥
Those who speak of the Supreme Lord in thought, word and deed
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੀ ॥
Sadhaa Sadhaa Jaanahu Thae Sukhee ||
सदा सदा जानहु ते सुखी ॥
Know that they are peaceful and happy, forever and ever.
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
Eaeko Eaek Eaek Pashhaanai ||
एको एकु एकु पछानै ॥
One who recognizes the One and only Lord as One,
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਕੀ ਓਹੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
Eith Outh Kee Ouhu Sojhee Jaanai ||
इत उत की ओहु सोझी जानै ॥
Understands this world and the next.
ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
Naam Sang Jis Kaa Man Maaniaa ||
नाम संगि जिस का मनु मानिआ ॥
One whose mind accepts the Company of the Naam,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥
Naanak Thinehi Niranjan Jaaniaa ||3||
नानक तिनहि निरंजनु जानिआ ॥३॥
The Name of the Lord, O Nanak, knows the Immaculate Lord. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਆਪਨ ਆਪੁ ਸੁਝੈ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Aapan Aap Sujhai ||
गुर प्रसादि आपन आपु सुझै ॥
By Guru's Grace, one understands himself;
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ॥
This Kee Jaanahu Thrisanaa Bujhai ||
तिस की जानहु त्रिसना बुझै ॥
Know that then, his thirst is quenched.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਹਤ ॥
Saadhhasang Har Har Jas Kehath ||
साधसंगि हरि हरि जसु कहत ॥
In the Company of the Holy, one chants the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਤੇ ਓਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਰਹਤ ॥
Sarab Rog Thae Ouhu Har Jan Rehath ||
सरब रोग ते ओहु हरि जनु रहत ॥
Such a devotee of the Lord is free of all disease.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਬਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਨੁ ॥
Anadhin Keerathan Kaeval Bakhyaan ||
अनदिनु कीरतनु केवल बख्यानु ॥
Night and day, sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the One Lord.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
Grihasath Mehi Soee Nirabaan ||
ग्रिहसत महि सोई निरबानु ॥
In the midst of your household, remain balanced and unattached.
ਏਕ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ॥
Eaek Oopar Jis Jan Kee Aasaa ||
एक ऊपरि जिसु जन की आसा ॥
One who places his hopes in the One Lord
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
This Kee Katteeai Jam Kee Faasaa ||
तिस की कटीऐ जम की फासा ॥
The noose of Death is cut away from his neck.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਭੂਖ ॥
Paarabreham Kee Jis Man Bhookh ||
पारब्रहम की जिसु मनि भूख ॥
One whose mind hungers for the Supreme Lord God,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥੪॥
Naanak Thisehi N Laagehi Dhookh ||4||
नानक तिसहि न लागहि दूख ॥४॥
O Nanak, shall not suffer pain. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
Jis Ko Har Prabh Man Chith Aavai ||
जिस कउ हरि प्रभु मनि चिति आवै ॥
One who focuses his conscious mind on the Lord God
ਸੋ ਸੰਤੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਨਹੀ ਡੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
So Santh Suhaelaa Nehee Ddulaavai ||
सो संतु सुहेला नही डुलावै ॥
- that Saint is at peace; he does not waver.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
Jis Prabh Apunaa Kirapaa Karai ||
जिसु प्रभु अपुना किरपा करै ॥
Those unto whom God has granted His Grace
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਸ ਤੇ ਡਰੈ ॥
So Saevak Kahu Kis Thae Ddarai ||
सो सेवकु कहु किस ते डरै ॥
Who do those servants need to fear?
ਜੈਸਾ ਸਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
Jaisaa Saa Thaisaa Dhrisattaaeiaa ||
जैसा सा तैसा द्रिसटाइआ ॥
As God is, so does He appear;
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
Apunae Kaaraj Mehi Aap Samaaeiaa ||
अपुने कारज महि आपि समाइआ ॥
In His Own creation, He Himself is pervading.
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੀਝਿਆ ॥
Sodhhath Sodhhath Sodhhath Seejhiaa ||
सोधत सोधत सोधत सीझिआ ॥
Searching, searching, searching, and finally, success!
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Thath Sabh Boojhiaa ||
गुर प्रसादि ततु सभु बूझिआ ॥
By Guru's Grace, the essence of all reality is understood.
ਜਬ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਬ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੂਲੁ ॥
Jab Dhaekho Thab Sabh Kishh Mool ||
जब देखउ तब सभु किछु मूलु ॥
Wherever I look, there I see Him, at the root of all things.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੂਖਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਅਸਥੂਲੁ ॥੫॥
Naanak So Sookham Soee Asathhool ||5||
नानक सो सूखमु सोई असथूलु ॥५॥
O Nanak, He is the subtle, and He is also the manifest. ||5||
ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ ॥
Neh Kishh Janamai Neh Kishh Marai ||
नह किछु जनमै नह किछु मरै ॥
Nothing is born, and nothing dies.
ਆਪਨ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥
Aapan Chalith Aap Hee Karai ||
आपन चलितु आप ही करै ॥
He Himself stages His own drama.
ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਅਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥
Aavan Jaavan Dhrisatt Anadhrisatt ||
आवनु जावनु द्रिसटि अनद्रिसटि ॥
Coming and going, seen and unseen,
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥
Aagiaakaaree Dhhaaree Sabh Srisatt ||
आगिआकारी धारी सभ स्रिसटि ॥
All the world is obedient to His Will.
