ऊतमु ऊचौ पारब्रहमु गुण अंतु न जाणहि सेख ॥
That the Supreme Lord God is the most sublime and lofty. Even the thousand-tongued serpent does not know the limits of His Glories.

नारद मुनि जन सुक बिआस जसु गावत गोबिंद ॥
Naarad, the humble beings, Suk and Vyaasa sing the Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਰਸ ਗੀਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੀਧੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਚੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
Ras Geedhhae Har Sio Beedhhae Bhagath Rachae Bhagavanth ||
रस गीधे हरि सिउ बीधे भगत रचे भगवंत ॥
They are imbued with the Lord's essence; united with Him; they are absorbed in devotional worship of the Lord God.
ਮੋਹ ਮਾਨ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਪਾਈ ਸਰਨਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
Moh Maan Bhram Binasiou Paaee Saran Dhaeiaal ||
मोह मान भ्रमु बिनसिओ पाई सरनि दइआल ॥
Emotional attachment, pride and doubt are eliminated, when one takes to the Sanctuary of the Merciful Lord.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
Charan Kamal Man Than Basae Dharasan Dhaekh Nihaal ||
चरन कमल मनि तनि बसे दरसनु देखि निहाल ॥
His Lotus Feet abide within my mind and body and I am enraptured, beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

लाभु मिलै तोटा हिरै साधसंगि लिव लाइ ॥
People reap their profits, and suffer no loss, when they embrace love for the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਖਾਟਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥

खाटि खजाना गुण निधि हरे नानक नामु धिआइ ॥६॥
They gather in the treasure of the Lord, the Ocean of Excellence, O Nanak, by meditating on the Naam. ||6||

संत मंडल हरि जसु कथहि बोलहि सति सुभाइ ॥
In the gathering of the Saints, chant the Praises of the Lord, and speak the Truth with love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਐ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੭॥

The seventh day of the lunar cycle: Gather the wealth of the Naam; this is a treasure which shall never be exhausted.
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
Santhasangath Mehi Paaeeai Anth N Paaraavaar ||
संतसंगति महि पाईऐ अंतु न पारावार ॥
In the Society of the Saints, He is obtained; He has no end or limitations.
ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

आपु तजहु गोबिंद भजहु सरनि परहु हरि राइ ॥
Renounce your selfishness and conceit, and meditate, vibrate on the Lord of the Universe; take to the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King.
ਦੂਖ ਹਰੈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
Dhookh Harai Bhavajal Tharai Man Chindhiaa Fal Paae ||
दूख हरै भवजलु तरै मन चिंदिआ फलु पाइ ॥
Your pains shall depart - swim across the terrifying world-ocean, and obtain the fruits of your mind's desires.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
Aath Pehar Man Har Japai Safal Janam Paravaan ||
आठ पहर मनि हरि जपै सफलु जनमु परवाणु ॥
One who meditates on the Lord twenty-four hours a day - fruitful and blessed is his coming into the world.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
Anthar Baahar Sadhaa Sang Karanaihaar Pashhaan ||
अंतरि बाहरि सदा संगि करनैहारु पछाणु ॥
Inwardly and outwardly, realize that the Creator Lord is always with you.
ਸੋ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
So Saajan So Sakhaa Meeth Jo Har Kee Math Dhaee ||
सो साजनु सो सखा मीतु जो हरि की मति देइ ॥
He is your friend, your companion, your very best friend, who imparts the Teachings of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇਇ ॥੭॥

Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord twenty-four hours a day; renounce other entanglements.

The most lofty and sublime spiritual wisdom

Har Har Bhajan Poorae Gur Sang ||
हरि हरि भजनु पूरे गुर संगि ॥
These are obtained by meditating, vibrating upon the Lord, Har, Har, in the Company of the Perfect Guru.
ਜਪਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੮॥

जपि तरीऐ नानक नाम हरि रंगि ॥८॥

नाराइणु नह सिमरिओ मोहिओ सुआद बिकार ॥
He does not remember the Lord in meditation; he is fascinated by the pleasures of corruption.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੯॥

नानक नामि बिसारिऐ नरक सुरग अवतार ॥९॥
O Nanak, forgetting the Naam, he is reincarnated into heaven and hell. ||9||

Har Naam N Japehi Karath Bipareeth ||
हरि नामु न जपहि करत बिपरीति ॥
People do not chant the Lord's Name; instead, they practice evil.
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰਮਹਿ ਬਕਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਨਿੰਦ ॥
Par Thria Ramehi Bakehi Saadhh Nindh ||
पर त्रिअ रमहि बकहि साध निंद ॥
They commit adultery, slander the Saints,
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
Karan N Sunehee Har Jas Bindh ||
करन न सुनही हरि जसु बिंद ॥
And do not listen to even a tiny bit of the Lord's Praise.
ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਉਦਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
Hirehi Par Dharab Oudhar Kai Thaaee ||
हिरहि पर दरबु उदर कै ताई ॥
They steal others' wealth for the sake of their own bellies,
ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
Agan N Nivarai Thrisanaa N Bujhaaee ||
अगनि न निवरै त्रिसना न बुझाई ॥
But the fire is not extinguished, and their thirst is not quenched.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਏਹ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
Har Saevaa Bin Eaeh Fal Laagae ||
हरि सेवा बिनु एह फल लागे ॥
Without serving the Lord, these are their rewards.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੯॥
Naanak Prabh Bisarath Mar Jamehi Abhaagae ||9||
नानक प्रभ बिसरत मरि जमहि अभागे ॥९॥
O Nanak, forgetting God, the unfortunate people are born, only to die. ||9||

दस दिस खोजत मै फिरिओ जत देखउ तत सोइ ॥
I have wandered, searching in the ten directions - wherever I look, there I see Him.
ਮਨੁ ਬਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੦॥

मनु बसि आवै नानका जे पूरन किरपा होइ ॥१०॥

Your mind will be content, as you chant the Naam.

With your ears, hear the Praises of the Lord of the World;

नैनी पेखत साध दइआल ॥
With your eyes, behold the kind, Holy Saints.

रसना गुन गावै बेअंत ॥
With your tongue, sing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
