ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੰਤ ॥
Math Pooree Paradhhaan Thae Gur Poorae Man Manth ||
मति पूरी परधान ते गुर पूरे मन मंत ॥
Perfect is the intellect, and most distinguished is the reputation, of those whose minds are filled with the Mantra of the Perfect Guru.
ਜਿਹ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੧॥
Jih Jaaniou Prabh Aapunaa Naanak Thae Bhagavanth ||1||
जिह जानिओ प्रभु आपुना नानक ते भगवंत ॥१॥
Those who come to know their God, O Nanak, are very fortunate. ||1||

ਮਮਾ ਜਾਹੂ ਮਰਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥

ममा जाहू मरमु पछाना ॥
MAMMA: Those who understand God's mystery
ਭੇਟਤ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥
Bhaettath Saadhhasang Patheeaanaa ||
भेटत साधसंग पतीआना ॥
Are satisfied joining the Saadh Sangat the Company of the Holy.
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਉਆ ਕੈ ਸਮਤ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Dhukh Sukh Ouaa Kai Samath Beechaaraa ||
दुख सुख उआ कै समत बीचारा ॥
They look upon pleasure and pain as the same.
ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਰਹਤ ਅਉਤਾਰਾ ॥
Narak Surag Rehath Aouthaaraa ||
नरक सुरग रहत अउतारा ॥
They are exempt from incarnation into heaven or hell.
ਤਾਹੂ ਸੰਗ ਤਾਹੂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪਾ ॥
Thaahoo Sang Thaahoo Niralaepaa ||
ताहू संग ताहू निरलेपा ॥
They live in the world, and yet they are detached from it.
ਪੂਰਨ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਸੇਖਾ ॥
Pooran Ghatt Ghatt Purakh Bisaekhaa ||
पूरन घट घट पुरख बिसेखा ॥
The Sublime Lord, the Primal Being, is totally pervading each and every heart.
ਉਆ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Ouaa Ras Mehi Ouaahoo Sukh Paaeiaa ||
उआ रस महि उआहू सुखु पाइआ ॥
In His Love, they find peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਪਤ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪੨॥
Naanak Lipath Nehee Thih Maaeiaa ||42||
नानक लिपत नही तिह माइआ ॥४२॥
O Nanak, Maya does not cling to them at all. ||42||

ਯਾਰ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਾਜਨਹੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਛੂਟਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Yaar Meeth Sun Saajanahu Bin Har Shhoottan Naahi ||
यार मीत सुनि साजनहु बिनु हरि छूटनु नाहि ॥
Listen, my dear friends and companions: without the Lord, there is no salvation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
Naanak Thih Bandhhan Kattae Gur Kee Charanee Paahi ||1||
नानक तिह बंधन कटे गुर की चरनी पाहि ॥१॥
O Nanak, one who falls at the Feet of the Guru, has his bonds cut away. ||1||

ਯਯਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧੀਆ ॥
Yayaa Jathan Karath Bahu Bidhheeaa ||
यया जतन करत बहु बिधीआ ॥
YAYYA: People try all sorts of things,
ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਹ ਲਉ ਸਿਧੀਆ ॥
Eaek Naam Bin Keh Lo Sidhheeaa ||
एक नाम बिनु कह लउ सिधीआ ॥
But without the One Name, how far can they succeed?
ਯਾਹੂ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਹੋਤ ਛੁਟਾਰਾ ॥
Yaahoo Jathan Kar Hoth Shhuttaaraa ||
याहू जतन करि होत छुटारा ॥
Those efforts, by which emancipation may be attained
ਉਆਹੂ ਜਤਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਰਾ ॥
Ouaahoo Jathan Saadhh Sangaaraa ||
उआहू जतन साध संगारा ॥
Those efforts are made in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਯਾ ਉਬਰਨ ਧਾਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ॥
Yaa Oubaran Dhhaarai Sabh Kooo ||
या उबरन धारै सभु कोऊ ॥
Everyone has this idea of salvation,
ਉਆਹਿ ਜਪੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਉਬਰ ਨ ਹੋਊ ॥
Ouaahi Japae Bin Oubar N Hooo ||
उआहि जपे बिनु उबर न होऊ ॥
But without meditation, there can be no salvation.
ਯਾਹੂ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਾਥਾ ॥
Yaahoo Tharan Thaaran Samaraathhaa ||
याहू तरन तारन समराथा ॥
The All-powerful Lord is the boat to carry us across.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਨਰਨਾਥਾ ॥
Raakh Laehu Niragun Naranaathhaa ||
राखि लेहु निरगुन नरनाथा ॥
O Lord, please save these worthless beings!
ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਜਿਹ ਆਪਿ ਜਨਾਈ ॥
Man Bach Kram Jih Aap Janaaee ||
मन बच क्रम जिह आपि जनाई ॥
Those whom the Lord Himself instructs in thought, word and deed
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਆਈ ॥੪੩॥

नानक तिह मति प्रगटी आई ॥४३॥
- O Nanak, their intellect is enlightened. ||43||

ਰੋਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਨ ਆਪੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Ros N Kaahoo Sang Karahu Aapan Aap Beechaar ||
रोसु न काहू संग करहु आपन आपु बीचारि ॥
Do not be angry with anyone else; look within your own self instead.
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਨਾ ਜਗਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
Hoe Nimaanaa Jag Rehahu Naanak Nadharee Paar ||1||
होइ निमाना जगि रहहु नानक नदरी पारि ॥१॥
Be humble in this world, O Nanak, and by His Grace you shall be carried across. ||1||

ਰਾਰਾ ਰੇਨ ਹੋਤ ਸਭ ਜਾ ਕੀ ॥
Raaraa Raen Hoth Sabh Jaa Kee ||
रारा रेन होत सभ जा की ॥
RARRA: Be the dust under the feet of all.
ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਛੁਟੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਕੀ ॥
Thaj Abhimaan Shhuttai Thaeree Baakee ||
तजि अभिमानु छुटै तेरी बाकी ॥
Give up your egotistical pride, and the balance of your account shall be written off.
ਰਣਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਤਉ ਸੀਝਹਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
Ran Dharagehi Tho Seejhehi Bhaaee ||
रणि दरगहि तउ सीझहि भाई ॥
Then, you shall win the battle in the Court of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਜਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
Jo Guramukh Raam Naam Liv Laaee ||
जउ गुरमुखि राम नाम लिव लाई ॥
As Gurmukh, lovingly attune yourself to the Lord's Name.
ਰਹਤ ਰਹਤ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Rehath Rehath Rehi Jaahi Bikaaraa ||
रहत रहत रहि जाहि बिकारा ॥
Your evil ways shall be slowly and steadily blotted out,
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Gur Poorae Kai Sabadh Apaaraa ||
गुर पूरे कै सबदि अपारा ॥
By the Shabad, the Incomparable Word of the Perfect Guru.
ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
Raathae Rang Naam Ras Maathae ||
राते रंग नाम रस माते ॥
You shall be imbued with the Lord's Love, and intoxicated with the Nectar of the Naam.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤੇ ॥੪੪॥
Naanak Har Gur Keenee Dhaathae ||44||
नानक हरि गुर कीनी दाते ॥४४॥
O Nanak, the Lord, the Guru, has given this gift. ||44||

ਲਾਲਚ ਝੂਠ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਇਆ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਬਾਸ ॥
Laalach Jhooth Bikhai Biaadhh Eiaa Dhaehee Mehi Baas ||
लालच झूठ बिखै बिआधि इआ देही महि बास ॥
The afflictions of greed, falsehood and corruption abide in this body.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੂਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥੧॥
Har Har Anmrith Guramukh Peeaa Naanak Sookh Nivaas ||1||
हरि हरि अम्रितु गुरमुखि पीआ नानक सूखि निवास ॥१॥
Drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Name, Har , Har, O Nanak, the Gurmukh abides in peace. ||1||

ਲਲਾ ਲਾਵਉ ਅਉਖਧ ਜਾਹੂ ॥
Lalaa Laavo Aoukhadhh Jaahoo ||
लला लावउ अउखध जाहू ॥
LALLA: One who takes the medicine of the Naam, the Name of the Lord,
ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਤਿਹ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਖਿਨਾਹੂ ॥
Dhookh Dharadh Thih Mittehi Khinaahoo ||
दूख दरद तिह मिटहि खिनाहू ॥
Is cured of his pain and sorrow in an instant.
ਨਾਮ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜਿਹ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਿਤਾਵੈ ॥
Naam Aoukhadhh Jih Ridhai Hithaavai ||
नाम अउखधु जिह रिदै हितावै ॥
One whose heart is filled with the medicine of the Naam,
ਤਾਹਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
Thaahi Rog Supanai Nehee Aavai ||
ताहि रोगु सुपनै नही आवै ॥
Is not infested with disease, even in his dreams.
ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ॥
Har Aoukhadhh Sabh Ghatt Hai Bhaaee ||
हरि अउखधु सभ घट है भाई ॥
The medicine of the Lord's Name is in all hearts, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
Gur Poorae Bin Bidhh N Banaaee ||
गुर पूरे बिनु बिधि न बनाई ॥
Without the Perfect Guru, no one knows how to prepare it.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
Gur Poorai Sanjam Kar Dheeaa ||
गुरि पूरै संजमु करि दीआ ॥
When the Perfect Guru gives the instructions to prepare it,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖ ਨ ਥੀਆ ॥੪੫॥
Naanak Tho Fir Dhookh N Thheeaa ||45||
नानक तउ फिरि दूख न थीआ ॥४५॥
Then, O Nanak, one does not suffer illness again. ||45||

ਵਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਊਨ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਠਾਇ ॥
Vaasudhaev Sarabathr Mai Oon N Kathehoo Thaae ||
वासुदेव सरबत्र मै ऊन न कतहू ठाइ ॥
The All-pervading Lord is in all places. There is no place where He does not exist.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਇ ਦੁਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
Anthar Baahar Sang Hai Naanak Kaae Dhuraae ||1||
अंतरि बाहरि संगि है नानक काइ दुराइ ॥१॥
Inside and outside, He is with you. O Nanak, what can be hidden from Him? ||1||

ਵਵਾ ਵੈਰੁ ਨ ਕਰੀਐ ਕਾਹੂ ॥

WAWWA: Do not harbor hatred against anyone.
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਮਾਹੂ ॥
Ghatt Ghatt Anthar Breham Samaahoo ||
घट घट अंतरि ब्रहम समाहू ॥
In each and every heart, God is contained.
ਵਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿਆ ॥
Vaasudhaev Jal Thhal Mehi Raviaa ||
वासुदेव जल थल महि रविआ ॥
The All-pervading Lord is permeating and pervading the oceans and the land.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਹੀ ਗਵਿਆ ॥
Gur Prasaadh Viralai Hee Gaviaa ||
गुर प्रसादि विरलै ही गविआ ॥
How rare are those who, by Guru's Grace, sing of Him.
ਵੈਰ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਮਿਟੇ ਤਿਹ ਮਨ ਤੇ ॥
Vair Virodhh Mittae Thih Man Thae ||
वैर विरोध मिटे तिह मन ते ॥
Hatred and alienation depart from those
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਸੁਨਤੇ ॥
Har Keerathan Guramukh Jo Sunathae ||
हरि कीरतनु गुरमुखि जो सुनते ॥
Who, as Gurmukh, listen to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.
ਵਰਨ ਚਿਹਨ ਸਗਲਹ ਤੇ ਰਹਤਾ ॥
Varan Chihan Sagaleh Thae Rehathaa ||
वरन चिहन सगलह ते रहता ॥
O Nanak, one who becomes Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord,
