ਜਹ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
Jeh Maath Pithaa Suth Meeth N Bhaaee ||
जह मात पिता सुत मीत न भाई ॥
Where there is no mother, father, children, friends or siblings
ਮਨ ਊਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
Man Oohaa Naam Thaerai Sang Sehaaee ||
मन ऊहा नामु तेरै संगि सहाई ॥
O my mind, there, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be with you as your help and support.
ਜਹ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਦੂਤ ਜਮ ਦਲੈ ॥
Jeh Mehaa Bhaeiaan Dhooth Jam Dhalai ||
जह महा भइआन दूत जम दलै ॥
Where the great and terrible Messenger of Death shall try to crush you,
ਤਹ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਲੈ ॥
Theh Kaeval Naam Sang Thaerai Chalai ||
तह केवल नामु संगि तेरै चलै ॥
There, only the Naam shall go along with you.
ਜਹ ਮੁਸਕਲ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
Jeh Musakal Hovai Ath Bhaaree ||
जह मुसकल होवै अति भारी ॥
Where the obstacles are so very heavy,
ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥
Har Ko Naam Khin Maahi Oudhhaaree ||
हरि को नामु खिन माहि उधारी ॥
The Name of the Lord shall rescue you in an instant.
ਅਨਿਕ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨ ਕਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਤਰੈ ॥
Anik Punehacharan Karath Nehee Tharai ||
अनिक पुनहचरन करत नही तरै ॥
By performing countless religious rituals, you shall not be saved.
ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਾਪ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
Har Ko Naam Kott Paap Pareharai ||
हरि को नामु कोटि पाप परहरै ॥
The Name of the Lord washes off millions of sins.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
Guramukh Naam Japahu Man Maerae ||
गुरमुखि नामु जपहु मन मेरे ॥
As Gurmukh, chant the Naam, O my mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Paavahu Sookh Ghanaerae ||1||
नानक पावहु सूख घनेरे ॥१॥
O Nanak, you shall obtain countless joys. ||1||
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥
Sagal Srisatt Ko Raajaa Dhukheeaa ||
सगल स्रिसटि को राजा दुखीआ ॥
The rulers of the all the world are unhappy;
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Japath Hoe Sukheeaa ||
हरि का नामु जपत होइ सुखीआ ॥
One who chants the Name of the Lord becomes happy.
ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਰੈ ॥
Laakh Karoree Bandhh N Parai ||
लाख करोरी बंधु न परै ॥
Acquiring hundreds of thousands and millions, your desires shall not be contained.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Japath Nisatharai ||
हरि का नामु जपत निसतरै ॥
Chanting the Name of the Lord, you shall find release.
ਅਨਿਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਤਿਖ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
Anik Maaeiaa Rang Thikh N Bujhaavai ||
अनिक माइआ रंग तिख न बुझावै ॥
By the countless pleasures of Maya, your thirst shall not be quenched.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਆਘਾਵੈ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Japath Aaghaavai ||
हरि का नामु जपत आघावै ॥
Chanting the Name of the Lord, you shall be satisfied.
ਜਿਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਤ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥
Jih Maarag Eihu Jaath Eikaelaa ||
जिह मारगि इहु जात इकेला ॥
Upon that path where you must go all alone,
ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥
Theh Har Naam Sang Hoth Suhaelaa ||
तह हरि नामु संगि होत सुहेला ॥
There, only the Lord's Name shall go with you to sustain you.
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
Aisaa Naam Man Sadhaa Dhhiaaeeai ||
ऐसा नामु मन सदा धिआईऐ ॥
On such a Name, O my mind, meditate forever.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
Naanak Guramukh Param Gath Paaeeai ||2||
नानक गुरमुखि परम गति पाईऐ ॥२॥
O Nanak, as Gurmukh, you shall obtain the state of supreme dignity. ||2||
ਛੂਟਤ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਲਖ ਬਾਹੀ ॥
Shhoottath Nehee Kott Lakh Baahee ||
छूटत नही कोटि लख बाही ॥
You shall not be saved by hundreds of thousands and millions of helping hands.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤਹ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਹੀ ॥
Naam Japath Theh Paar Paraahee ||
नामु जपत तह पारि पराही ॥
Chanting the Naam, you shall be lifted up and carried across.
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਘਨ ਜਹ ਆਇ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥
Anik Bighan Jeh Aae Sanghaarai ||
अनिक बिघन जह आइ संघारै ॥
Where countless misfortunes threaten to destroy you,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Thathakaal Oudhhaarai ||
हरि का नामु ततकाल उधारै ॥
The Name of the Lord shall rescue you in an instant.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਮ ॥
Anik Jon Janamai Mar Jaam ||
अनिक जोनि जनमै मरि जाम ॥
Through countless incarnations, people are born and die.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
Naam Japath Paavai Bisraam ||
नामु जपत पावै बिस्राम ॥
Chanting the Name of the Lord, you shall come to rest in peace.
ਹਉ ਮੈਲਾ ਮਲੁ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
Ho Mailaa Mal Kabahu N Dhhovai ||
हउ मैला मलु कबहु न धोवै ॥
The ego is polluted by a filth which can never be washed off.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਾਪ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Kott Paap Khovai ||
हरि का नामु कोटि पाप खोवै ॥
The Name of the Lord erases millions of sins.
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
Aisaa Naam Japahu Man Rang ||
ऐसा नामु जपहु मन रंगि ॥
Chant such a Name with love, O my mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੩॥
Naanak Paaeeai Saadhh Kai Sang ||3||
नानक पाईऐ साध कै संगि ॥३॥
O Nanak, it is obtained in the Company of the Holy. ||3||
ਜਿਹ ਮਾਰਗ ਕੇ ਗਨੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਨ ਕੋਸਾ ॥
Jih Maarag Kae Ganae Jaahi N Kosaa ||
जिह मारग के गने जाहि न कोसा ॥
On that path where the miles cannot be counted,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਹਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੋਸਾ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Oohaa Sang Thosaa ||
हरि का नामु ऊहा संगि तोसा ॥
There, the Name of the Lord shall be your sustenance.
ਜਿਹ ਪੈਡੈ ਮਹਾ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
Jih Paiddai Mehaa Andhh Gubaaraa ||
जिह पैडै महा अंध गुबारा ॥
On that journey of total, pitch-black darkness,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Sang Oujeeaaraa ||
हरि का नामु संगि उजीआरा ॥
The Name of the Lord shall be the Light with you.
ਜਹਾ ਪੰਥਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਿਞਾਨੂ ॥
Jehaa Panthh Thaeraa Ko N Sinjaanoo ||
जहा पंथि तेरा को न सिञानू ॥
On that journey where no one knows you,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਛਾਨੂ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Theh Naal Pashhaanoo ||
हरि का नामु तह नालि पछानू ॥
With the Name of the Lord, you shall be recognized.
ਜਹ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਤਪਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਘਾਮ ॥
Jeh Mehaa Bhaeiaan Thapath Bahu Ghaam ||
जह महा भइआन तपति बहु घाम ॥
Where there is awesome and terrible heat and blazing sunshine,
ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਤੁਮ ਊਪਰਿ ਛਾਮ ॥
Theh Har Kae Naam Kee Thum Oopar Shhaam ||
तह हरि के नाम की तुम ऊपरि छाम ॥
There, the Name of the Lord will give you shade.
ਜਹਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾ ਮਨ ਤੁਝੁ ਆਕਰਖੈ ॥
Jehaa Thrikhaa Man Thujh Aakarakhai ||
जहा त्रिखा मन तुझु आकरखै ॥
Where thirst, O my mind, torments you to cry out,
ਤਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬਰਖੈ ॥੪॥
Theh Naanak Har Har Anmrith Barakhai ||4||
तह नानक हरि हरि अम्रितु बरखै ॥४॥
There, O Nanak, the Ambrosial Name, Har, Har, shall rain down upon you. ||4||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਬਰਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Bhagath Janaa Kee Barathan Naam ||
भगत जना की बरतनि नामु ॥
Unto the devotee, the Naam is an article of daily use.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
Santh Janaa Kai Man Bisraam ||
संत जना कै मनि बिस्रामु ॥
The minds of the humble Saints are at peace.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਓਟ ॥
Har Kaa Naam Dhaas Kee Outt ||
हरि का नामु दास की ओट ॥
The Name of the Lord is the Support of His servants.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਜਨ ਕੋਟਿ ॥
Har Kai Naam Oudhharae Jan Kott ||
हरि कै नामि उधरे जन कोटि ॥
By the Name of the Lord, millions have been saved.
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
Har Jas Karath Santh Dhin Raath ||
हरि जसु करत संत दिनु राति ॥
The Saints chant the Praises of the Lord, day and night.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸਾਧ ਕਮਾਤਿ ॥
Har Har Aoukhadhh Saadhh Kamaath ||
हरि हरि अउखधु साध कमाति ॥
Har, Har - the Lord's Name - the Holy use it as their healing medicine.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
Har Jan Kai Har Naam Nidhhaan ||
हरि जन कै हरि नामु निधानु ॥
The Lord's Name is the treasure of the Lord's servant.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਨ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨ ॥
Paarabreham Jan Keeno Dhaan ||
पारब्रहमि जन कीनो दान ॥
The Supreme Lord God has blessed His humble servant with this gift.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਏਕੈ ॥
Man Than Rang Rathae Rang Eaekai ||
मन तन रंगि रते रंग एकै ॥
Mind and body are imbued with ecstasy in the Love of the One Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੈ ॥੫॥
Naanak Jan Kai Birath Bibaekai ||5||
नानक जन कै बिरति बिबेकै ॥५॥
O Nanak, careful and discerning understanding is the way of the Lord's humble servant. ||5||

हरि का नामु जन कउ मुकति जुगति ॥
The Name of the Lord is the path of liberation for His humble servants.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਭੁਗਤਿ ॥
Har Kai Naam Jan Ko Thripath Bhugath ||
हरि कै नामि जन कउ त्रिपति भुगति ॥
With the food of the Name of the Lord, His servants are satisfied.

हरि का नामु जन का रूप रंगु ॥
The Name of the Lord is the beauty and delight of His servants.

हरि नामु जपत कब परै न भंगु ॥
