ऐसे घर हम बहुतु बसाए ॥
I lived in many such homes, O Lord,

Before I came into the womb this time. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਤਪੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ॥
Jogee Jathee Thapee Brehamachaaree ||
जोगी जती तपी ब्रहमचारी ॥
I was a Yogi, a celibate, a penitent, and a Brahmchaaree, with strict self-discipline.
ਕਬਹੂ ਰਾਜਾ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Kabehoo Raajaa Shhathrapath Kabehoo Bhaekhaaree ||2||
कबहू राजा छत्रपति कबहू भेखारी ॥२॥
Sometimes I was a king, sitting on the throne, and sometimes I was a beggar. ||2||
ਸਾਕਤ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ॥
Saakath Marehi Santh Sabh Jeevehi ||
साकत मरहि संत सभि जीवहि ॥
The faithless cynics shall die, while the Saints shall all survive.
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਪੀਵਹਿ ॥੩॥
Raam Rasaaein Rasanaa Peevehi ||3||
राम रसाइनु रसना पीवहि ॥३॥
They drink in the Lord's Ambrosial Essence with their tongues. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

कहु कबीर प्रभ किरपा कीजै ॥
Says Kabeer, O God, have mercy on me.
ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਅਬ ਪੂਰਾ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
Haar Parae Ab Pooraa Dheejai ||4||13||
हारि परे अब पूरा दीजै ॥४॥१३॥
I am so tired; now, please bless me with Your perfection. ||4||13||

दधि कै भोलै बिरोलै नीरु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Mistaking it for cream, the people are churning water. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰੀ ਅੰਗੂਰੀ ਗਦਹਾ ਚਰੈ ॥
Haree Angooree Gadhehaa Charai ||
हरी अंगूरी गदहा चरै ॥
The donkey grazes upon the green grass;
ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਹਾਸੈ ਹੀਗੈ ਮਰੈ ॥੧॥
Nith Outh Haasai Heegai Marai ||1||
नित उठि हासै हीगै मरै ॥१॥
Arising each day, he laughs and brays, and then dies. ||1||
ਮਾਤਾ ਭੈਸਾ ਅੰਮੁਹਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
Maathaa Bhaisaa Anmuhaa Jaae ||
माता भैसा अमुहा जाइ ॥
The bull is intoxicated, and runs around wildly.
ਕੁਦਿ ਕੁਦਿ ਚਰੈ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
Kudh Kudh Charai Rasaathal Paae ||2||
कुदि कुदि चरै रसातलि पाइ ॥२॥
He romps and eats and then falls into hell. ||2||
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਈ ਖੇਡ ॥
Kahu Kabeer Paragatt Bhee Khaedd ||
कहु कबीर परगटु भई खेड ॥
Says Kabeer, a strange sport has become manifest:
ਲੇਲੇ ਕਉ ਚੂਘੈ ਨਿਤ ਭੇਡ ॥੩॥
Laelae Ko Chooghai Nith Bhaedd ||3||
लेले कउ चूघै नित भेड ॥३॥
The sheep is sucking the milk of her lamb. ||3||
ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਮਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੀ ਆਈ ॥
Raam Ramath Math Paragattee Aaee ||
राम रमत मति परगटी आई ॥
Chanting the Lord's Name, my intellect is enlightened.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੪॥

जिउ जल छोडि बाहरि भइओ मीना ॥
I am like a fish out of water,
ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਹਉ ਤਪ ਕਾ ਹੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
Poorab Janam Ho Thap Kaa Heenaa ||1||
पूरब जनम हउ तप का हीना ॥१॥
Because in my previous life, I did not practice penance and intense meditation. ||1||
ਅਬ ਕਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
Ab Kahu Raam Kavan Gath Moree ||
अब कहु राम कवन गति मोरी ॥
Now tell me, Lord, what will my condition be?
ਤਜੀ ਲੇ ਬਨਾਰਸ ਮਤਿ ਭਈ ਥੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तजी ले बनारस मति भई थोरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I left Benares - I had little common sense. ||1||Pause||

सगल जनमु सिव पुरी गवाइआ ॥
I wasted my whole life in the city of Shiva;
ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਮਗਹਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
Marathee Baar Magehar Outh Aaeiaa ||2||
मरती बार मगहरि उठि आइआ ॥२॥
At the time of my death, I moved to Magahar. ||2||
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਰਸ ਤਪੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਾਸੀ ॥
Bahuth Baras Thap Keeaa Kaasee ||
बहुतु बरस तपु कीआ कासी ॥
For many years, I practiced penance and intense meditation at Kaashi;
ਮਰਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਗਹਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਸੀ ॥੩॥
Maran Bhaeiaa Magehar Kee Baasee ||3||
मरनु भइआ मगहर की बासी ॥३॥
Now that my time to die has come, I have come to dwell at Magahar! ||3||
ਕਾਸੀ ਮਗਹਰ ਸਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
Kaasee Magehar Sam Beechaaree ||
कासी मगहर सम बीचारी ॥
Kaashi and Magahar - I consider them the same.
ਓਛੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
Oushhee Bhagath Kaisae Outharas Paaree ||4||
ओछी भगति कैसे उतरसि पारी ॥४॥
With inadequate devotion, how can anyone swim across? ||4||
ਕਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਜ ਸਿਵ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

कहु गुर गज सिव सभु को जानै ॥
Says Kabeer, the Guru and Ganaysha and Shiva all know

Gauree, Kabeer Jee:
ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨ ਮਰਦਨ ਅੰਗਾ ॥
Choaa Chandhan Maradhan Angaa ||
चोआ चंदन मरदन अंगा ॥
You may anoint your limbs with sandalwood oil,
ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਕਾਠ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
So Than Jalai Kaath Kai Sangaa ||1||
सो तनु जलै काठ कै संगा ॥१॥
But in the end, that body will be burned with the firewood. ||1||
ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਕਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ॥
Eis Than Dhhan Kee Kavan Baddaaee ||
इसु तन धन की कवन बडाई ॥
Why should anyone take pride in this body or wealth?
ਧਰਨਿ ਪਰੈ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dhharan Parai Ouravaar N Jaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
धरनि परै उरवारि न जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
They shall end up lying on the ground; they shall not go along with you to the world beyond. ||1||Pause||
ਰਾਤਿ ਜਿ ਸੋਵਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਾਮ ॥
Raath J Sovehi Dhin Karehi Kaam ||
राति जि सोवहि दिन करहि काम ॥
They sleep by night and work during the day,
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਲੇਹਿ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥੨॥
Eik Khin Laehi N Har Ko Naam ||2||
इकु खिनु लेहि न हरि को नाम ॥२॥
But they do not chant the Lord's Name, even for an instant. ||2||
ਹਾਥਿ ਤ ਡੋਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਖਾਇਓ ਤੰਬੋਰ ॥
Haathh Th Ddor Mukh Khaaeiou Thanbor ||
हाथि त डोर मुखि खाइओ त्मबोर ॥
They hold the string of the kite in their hands, and chew betel leaves in their mouths,
ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਕਸਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਚੋਰ ॥੩॥
Marathee Baar Kas Baadhhiou Chor ||3||
मरती बार कसि बाधिओ चोर ॥३॥
But at the time of death, they shall be tied up tight, like thieves. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
Guramath Ras Ras Har Gun Gaavai ||
गुरमति रसि रसि हरि गुन गावै ॥
Through the Guru's Teachings, and immersed in His Love, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਰਾਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
Raamai Raam Ramath Sukh Paavai ||4||
रामै राम रमत सुखु पावै ॥४॥
Chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, and find peace. ||4||
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥
Kirapaa Kar Kai Naam Dhrirraaee ||
किरपा करि कै नामु द्रिड़ाई ॥
In His Mercy, He implants the Naam within us;
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਸੁ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਬਸਾਈ ॥੫॥
Har Har Baas Sugandhh Basaaee ||5||
हरि हरि बासु सुगंध बसाई ॥५॥
Inhale deeply the sweet aroma and fragrance of the Lord, Har, Har. ||5||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਅੰਧਾ ॥
Kehath Kabeer Chaeth Rae Andhhaa ||
कहत कबीर चेति रे अंधा ॥
Says Kabeer, remember Him, you blind fool!
ਸਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧਾ ॥੬॥੧੬॥
Sath Raam Jhoothaa Sabh Dhhandhhaa ||6||16||
सति रामु झूठा सभु धंधा ॥६॥१६॥
The Lord is True; all worldly affairs are false. ||6||16||
ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਤਿਪਦੇ ਚਾਰਤੁਕੇ ॥

गउड़ी कबीर जी तिपदे चारतुके ॥

ਜਮ ਤੇ ਉਲਟਿ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
Jam Thae Oulatt Bheae Hai Raam ||
जम ते उलटि भए है राम ॥
I have turned away from death and turned to the Lord.
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਓ ਬਿਸਰਾਮ ॥
Dhukh Binasae Sukh Keeou Bisaraam ||
दुख बिनसे सुख कीओ बिसराम ॥
Pain has been eliminated, and I dwell in peac and comfort.
ਬੈਰੀ ਉਲਟਿ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
Bairee Oulatt Bheae Hai Meethaa ||
बैरी उलटि भए है मीता ॥
My enemies have been transformed into friends.
ਸਾਕਤ ਉਲਟਿ ਸੁਜਨ ਭਏ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੧॥
Saakath Oulatt Sujan Bheae Cheethaa ||1||
साकत उलटि सुजन भए चीता ॥१॥
The faithless cynics have been transformed into good-hearted people. ||1||
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
Ab Mohi Sarab Kusal Kar Maaniaa ||
अब मोहि सरब कुसल करि मानिआ ॥
Now, I feel that everything brings me peace.
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਭਈ ਜਬ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
