ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀਆ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
Ho Ho Karath Bihaaneeaa Saakath Mugadhh Ajaan ||
हउ हउ करत बिहानीआ साकत मुगध अजान ॥
Acting in egotism, selfishness and conceit, the foolish, ignorant, faithless cynic wastes his life.
ੜੜਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਜਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਨ ॥੧॥
Rrarrak Mueae Jio Thrikhaavanth Naanak Kirath Kamaan ||1||
ड़ड़कि मुए जिउ त्रिखावंत नानक किरति कमान ॥१॥
He dies in agony, like one dying of thirst; O Nanak, this is because of the deeds he has done. ||1||

RARRA: Conflict is eliminated in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਤਤੁ ਨਾਮ ਅਰਾਧੂ ॥
Karam Dhharam Thath Naam Araadhhoo ||
करम धरम ततु नाम अराधू ॥
Meditate in adoration on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the essence of karma and Dharma.
ਰੂੜੋ ਜਿਹ ਬਸਿਓ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
Roorro Jih Basiou Ridh Maahee ||
रूड़ो जिह बसिओ रिद माही ॥
When the Beautiful Lord abides within the heart,
ਉਆ ਕੀ ੜਾੜਿ ਮਿਟਤ ਬਿਨਸਾਹੀ ॥
Ouaa Kee Rraarr Mittath Binasaahee ||
उआ की ड़ाड़ि मिटत बिनसाही ॥
Conflict is erased and ended.
ੜਾੜਿ ਕਰਤ ਸਾਕਤ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥

ड़ाड़ि करत साकत गावारा ॥
The foolish, faithless cynic picks arguments
ਜੇਹ ਹੀਐ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Jaeh Heeai Ahanbudhh Bikaaraa ||
जेह हीऐ अह्मबुधि बिकारा ॥
His heart is filled with corruption and egotistical intellect.

साधू की मन ओट गहु उकति सिआनप तिआगु ॥
O mind, grasp the Support of the Holy Saint; give up your clever arguments.
ਗੁਰ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਜਿਹ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੧॥

गुर दीखिआ जिह मनि बसै नानक मसतकि भागु ॥१॥
One who has the Guru's Teachings within his mind, O Nanak, has good destiny inscribed upon his forehead. ||1||

SASSA: I have now entered Your Sanctuary, Lord;
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੂਕਾਰੇ ॥

सासत्र सिम्रिति बेद पूकारे ॥
I am so tired of reciting the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas.
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Sodhhath Sodhhath Sodhh Beechaaraa ||
सोधत सोधत सोधि बीचारा ॥
I searched and searched and searched, and now I have come to realize,
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥
Bin Har Bhajan Nehee Shhuttakaaraa ||
बिनु हरि भजन नही छुटकारा ॥
That without meditating on the Lord, there is no emancipation.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਹਮ ਭੂਲਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
Saas Saas Ham Bhoolanehaarae ||
सासि सासि हम भूलनहारे ॥
With each and every breath, I make mistakes.
ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਗਨਤ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
Thum Samarathh Aganath Apaarae ||
तुम समरथ अगनत अपारे ॥
You are All-powerful, endless and infinite.
ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
Saran Parae Kee Raakh Dhaeiaalaa ||
सरनि परे की राखु दइआला ॥
I seek Your Sanctuary - please save me, Merciful Lord!

Khudhee Mittee Thab Sukh Bheae Man Than Bheae Arog ||
खुदी मिटी तब सुख भए मन तन भए अरोग ॥
When selfishness and conceit are erased, peace comes, and the mind and body are healed.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਇਆ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥

नानक द्रिसटी आइआ उसतति करनै जोगु ॥१॥
O Nanak, then He comes to be seen - the One who is worthy of praise. ||1||

खखा खरा सराहउ ताहू ॥
KHAKHA: Praise and extol Him on High,
ਜੋ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਊਨੇ ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰਾਹੂ ॥
Jo Khin Mehi Oonae Subhar Bharaahoo ||
जो खिन महि ऊने सुभर भराहू ॥
Who fills the empty to over-flowing in an instant.
ਖਰਾ ਨਿਮਾਨਾ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
Kharaa Nimaanaa Hoth Paraanee ||
खरा निमाना होत परानी ॥
When the mortal being becomes totally humble,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
Anadhin Jaapai Prabh Nirabaanee ||
अनदिनु जापै प्रभ निरबानी ॥
Then he meditates night and day on God, the Detached Lord of Nirvaanaa.
ਭਾਵੈ ਖਸਮ ਤ ਉਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਤਾ ॥
Bhaavai Khasam Th Ouaa Sukh Dhaethaa ||
भावै खसम त उआ सुखु देता ॥
If it pleases the Will of our Lord and Master, then He blesses us with peace.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਐਸੋ ਆਗਨਤਾ ॥
Paarabreham Aiso Aaganathaa ||
पारब्रहमु ऐसो आगनता ॥
Such is the Infinite, Supreme Lord God.
ਅਸੰਖ ਖਤੇ ਖਿਨ ਬਖਸਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
Asankh Khathae Khin Bakhasanehaaraa ||
असंख खते खिन बखसनहारा ॥
He forgives countless sins in an instant.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਰਾ ॥੪੯॥
Naanak Saahib Sadhaa Dhaeiaaraa ||49||
नानक साहिब सदा दइआरा ॥४९॥
O Nanak, our Lord and Master is merciful forever. ||49||

सति कहउ सुनि मन मेरे सरनि परहु हरि राइ ॥
I speak the Truth - listen, O my mind: take to the Sanctuary of the Sovereign Lord King.
ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਏ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
Oukath Siaanap Sagal Thiaag Naanak Leae Samaae ||1||
उकति सिआनप सगल तिआगि नानक लए समाइ ॥१॥
Give up all your clever tricks, O Nanak, and He shall absorb you into Himself. ||1||

ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥
Hikamath Hukam N Prabh Patheeaanaa ||
हिकमति हुकमि न प्रभु पतीआना ॥
God is not pleased with clever tricks and commands.
ਸਹਸ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
Sehas Bhaath Karehi Chathuraaee ||
सहस भाति करहि चतुराई ॥
You may practice a thousand forms of cleverness,
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
Sang Thuhaarai Eaek N Jaaee ||
संगि तुहारै एक न जाई ॥
But not even one will go along with you in the end.
ਸੋਊ ਸੋਊ ਜਪਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
Sooo Sooo Jap Dhin Raathee ||
सोऊ सोऊ जपि दिन राती ॥
Meditate on that Lord, that Lord, day and night.
ਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਚਲੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਸਾਥੀ ॥
Rae Jeea Chalai Thuhaarai Saathhee ||
रे जीअ चलै तुहारै साथी ॥
O soul, He alone shall go along with you.
ਸਾਧ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਵੈ ਜਿਹ ਆਪੈ ॥
Saadhh Saevaa Laavai Jih Aapai ||
साध सेवा लावै जिह आपै ॥
Those whom the Lord Himself commits to the service of the Holy,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥੫੦॥
Naanak Thaa Ko Dhookh N Biaapai ||50||
नानक ता कउ दूखु न बिआपै ॥५०॥
O Nanak, are not afflicted by suffering. ||50||

हरि हरि मुख ते बोलना मनि वूठै सुखु होइ ॥
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and keeping it in your mind, you shall find peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak Sabh Mehi Rav Rehiaa Thhaan Thhananthar Soe ||1||
नानक सभ महि रवि रहिआ थान थनंतरि सोइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, the Lord is pervading everywhere; He is contained in all spaces and interspaces. ||1||

हेरउ घटि घटि सगल कै पूरि रहे भगवान ॥
Behold! The Lord God is totally pervading each and every heart.
ਹੋਵਤ ਆਏ ਸਦ ਸਦੀਵ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
Hovath Aaeae Sadh Sadheev Dhukh Bhanjan Gur Giaan ||
होवत आए सद सदीव दुख भंजन गुर गिआन ॥
Forever and ever, the Guru's wisdom has been the Destroyer of pain.
ਹਉ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਤਿਹ ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਹ ਆਪਿ ॥
Ho Shhuttakai Hoe Anandh Thih Ho Naahee Theh Aap ||
हउ छुटकै होइ अनंदु तिह हउ नाही तह आपि ॥
Quieting the ego, ecstasy is obtained. Where the ego does not exist, God Himself is there.
ਹਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਨਮਹ ਮਰਨ ਸੰਤਸੰਗ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
Hathae Dhookh Janameh Maran Santhasang Parathaap ||
हते दूख जनमह मरन संतसंग परताप ॥
The pain of birth and death is removed, by the power of the Society of the Saints.
ਹਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
Hith Kar Naam Dhrirrai Dhaeiaalaa ||
हित करि नाम द्रिड़ै दइआला ॥
He becomes kind to those who lovingly enshrine the Name of the Merciful Lord within their hearts,
ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥
