आपि छडाए छुटीऐ सतिगुर चरण समालि ॥४॥
If the Lord Himself saves you, then you shall be saved. Dwell upon the Feet of the True Guru. ||4||
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
Man Karehalaa Maerae Piaariaa Vich Dhaehee Joth Samaal ||
मन करहला मेरे पिआरिआ विचि देही जोति समालि ॥
O my dear beloved camel-like mind, dwell upon the Divine Light within the body.
ਗੁਰਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਦਇਆਲਿ ॥੫॥
Gur No Nidhh Naam Vikhaaliaa Har Dhaath Karee Dhaeiaal ||5||
गुरि नउ निधि नामु विखालिआ हरि दाति करी दइआलि ॥५॥
The Guru has shown me the nine treasures of the Naam. The Merciful Lord has bestowed this gift. ||5||
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਚੰਚਲਾ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛਡਿ ਵਿਕਰਾਲਿ ॥
Man Karehalaa Thoon Chanchalaa Chathuraaee Shhadd Vikaraal ||
मन करहला तूं चंचला चतुराई छडि विकरालि ॥
O camel-like mind, you are so fickle; give up your cleverness and corruption.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ॥੬॥
Har Har Naam Samaal Thoon Har Mukath Karae Anth Kaal ||6||
हरि हरि नामु समालि तूं हरि मुकति करे अंत कालि ॥६॥
Dwell upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; at the very last moment, the Lord shall liberate you. ||6||
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥

मन करहला वडभागीआ तूं गिआनु रतनु समालि ॥
O camel-like mind, you are so very fortunate; dwell upon the jewel of spiritual wisdom.
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਖੜਗੁ ਹਥਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿਅੜਾ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥੭॥
Gur Giaan Kharrag Hathh Dhhaariaa Jam Maariarraa Jamakaal ||7||
गुर गिआनु खड़गु हथि धारिआ जमु मारिअड़ा जमकालि ॥७॥
You hold in your hands the sword of the Guru's spiritual wisdom; with this destroyer of death, kill the Messenger of Death. ||7||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭਵਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
Anthar Nidhhaan Man Karehalae Bhram Bhavehi Baahar Bhaal ||
अंतरि निधानु मन करहले भ्रमि भवहि बाहरि भालि ॥
The treasure is deep within, O camel-like mind, but you wander around outside in doubt, searching for it.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਲਧੜਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੮॥
Gur Purakh Pooraa Bhaettiaa Har Sajan Ladhharraa Naal ||8||
गुरु पुरखु पूरा भेटिआ हरि सजणु लधड़ा नालि ॥८॥
Meeting the Perfect Guru, the Primal Being, you shall discover that the Lord, your Best Friend, is with you. ||8||
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੜੇ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
Rang Ratharrae Man Karehalae Har Rang Sadhaa Samaal ||
रंगि रतड़े मन करहले हरि रंगु सदा समालि ॥
You are engrossed in pleasures, O camel-like mind; dwell upon the Lord's lasting love instead!
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੯॥
Har Rang Kadhae N Outharai Gur Saevaa Sabadh Samaal ||9||
हरि रंगु कदे न उतरै गुर सेवा सबदु समालि ॥९॥
The color of the Lord's Love never fades away; serve the Guru, and dwell upon the Word of the Shabad. ||9||
ਹਮ ਪੰਖੀ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਕਾਲਿ ॥
Ham Pankhee Man Karehalae Har Tharavar Purakh Akaal ||
हम पंखी मन करहले हरि तरवरु पुरखु अकालि ॥
We are birds, O camel-like mind; the Lord, the Immortal Primal Being, is the tree.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੦॥੨॥
Vaddabhaagee Guramukh Paaeiaa Jan Naanak Naam Samaal ||10||2||
वडभागी गुरमुखि पाइआ जन नानक नामु समालि ॥१०॥२॥

Jab Eihu Man Mehi Karath Gumaanaa ||
जब इहु मन महि करत गुमाना ॥
When this mind is filled with pride,
ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਬਾਵਰੁ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥
Thab Eihu Baavar Firath Bigaanaa ||
तब इहु बावरु फिरत बिगाना ॥
Then it wanders around like a madman and a lunatic.
ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਹੂਆ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥
Jab Eihu Hooaa Sagal Kee Reenaa ||
जब इहु हूआ सगल की रीना ॥
But when it becomes the dust of all,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਮਈਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
Thaa Thae Rameeaa Ghatt Ghatt Cheenaa ||1||
ता ते रमईआ घटि घटि चीना ॥१॥
Then it recognizes the Lord in each and every heart. ||1||
ਸਹਜ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਫਲੁ ਮਸਕੀਨੀ ॥
Sehaj Suhaelaa Fal Masakeenee ||
सहज सुहेला फलु मसकीनी ॥
The fruit of humility is intuitive peace and pleasure.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुर अपुनै मोहि दानु दीनी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

ਜਬ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
Jab Kis Ko Eihu Jaanas Mandhaa ||
जब किस कउ इहु जानसि मंदा ॥
When he believes others to be bad,
ਤਬ ਸਗਲੇ ਇਸੁ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਫੰਦਾ ॥
Thab Sagalae Eis Maelehi Fandhaa ||
तब सगले इसु मेलहि फंदा ॥
Then everyone lays traps for him.
ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਜਬ ਇਨਹਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥
Maer Thaer Jab Einehi Chukaaee ||
मेर तेर जब इनहि चुकाई ॥
But when he stops thinking in terms of 'mine' and 'yours',
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥
Thaa Thae Eis Sang Nehee Bairaaee ||2||
ता ते इसु संगि नही बैराई ॥२॥
Then no one is angry with him. ||2||
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
Jab Ein Apunee Apanee Dhhaaree ||
जब इनि अपुनी अपनी धारी ॥
When he clings to 'my own, my own',
ਤਬ ਇਸ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
Thab Eis Ko Hai Musakal Bhaaree ||
तब इस कउ है मुसकलु भारी ॥
Then he is in deep trouble.
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
Jab Ein Karanaihaar Pashhaathaa ||
जब इनि करणैहारु पछाता ॥
But when he recognizes the Creator Lord,
ਤਬ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾਤਾ ॥੩॥
Thab Eis No Naahee Kishh Thaathaa ||3||
तब इस नो नाही किछु ताता ॥३॥
Then he is free of torment. ||3||
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਮੋਹਾ ॥
Jab Ein Apuno Baadhhiou Mohaa ||
जब इनि अपुनो बाधिओ मोहा ॥
When he entangles himself in emotional attachment,
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਮਿ ਜੋਹਾ ॥
Aavai Jaae Sadhaa Jam Johaa ||
आवै जाइ सदा जमि जोहा ॥
He comes and goes in reincarnation, under the constant gaze of Death.
ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥
Jab Eis Thae Sabh Binasae Bharamaa ||
जब इस ते सभ बिनसे भरमा ॥
But when all his doubts are removed,
ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ॥੪॥
Bhaedh Naahee Hai Paarabrehamaa ||4||
भेदु नाही है पारब्रहमा ॥४॥
Then there is no difference between him and the Supreme Lord God. ||4||
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ਭੇਦਾ ॥
Jab Ein Kishh Kar Maanae Bhaedhaa ||
जब इनि किछु करि माने भेदा ॥
When he perceives differences,
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਡੰਡ ਅਰੁ ਖੇਦਾ ॥
Thab Thae Dhookh Ddandd Ar Khaedhaa ||
तब ते दूख डंड अरु खेदा ॥
Then he suffers pain, punishment and sorrow.
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੀ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥
Jab Ein Eaeko Eaekee Boojhiaa ||
जब इनि एको एकी बूझिआ ॥
But when he recognizes the One and Only Lord,
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝਿਆ ॥੫॥
Thab Thae Eis No Sabh Kishh Soojhiaa ||5||
तब ते इस नो सभु किछु सूझिआ ॥५॥
He understands everything. ||5||
ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਰਥੀ ॥
Jab Eihu Dhhaavai Maaeiaa Arathhee ||
जब इहु धावै माइआ अरथी ॥
When he runs around for the sake of Maya and riches,
ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ਨਹ ਤਿਸ ਲਾਥੀ ॥
Neh Thripathaavai Neh This Laathhee ||
नह त्रिपतावै नह तिस लाथी ॥
He is not satisfied, and his desires are not quenched.
ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇਓ ਜਉਲਾ ॥
Jab Eis Thae Eihu Hoeiou Joulaa ||
जब इस ते इहु होइओ जउला ॥
But when he runs away from Maya,
ਪੀਛੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਚਲੀ ਉਠਿ ਕਉਲਾ ॥੬॥
Peeshhai Laag Chalee Outh Koulaa ||6||
पीछै लागि चली उठि कउला ॥६॥
Then the Goddess of Wealth gets up and follows him. ||6||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Jo Sathigur Miliou ||
करि किरपा जउ सतिगुरु मिलिओ ॥
When, by His Grace, the True Guru is met,
ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਜਲਿਓ ॥
Man Mandhar Mehi Dheepak Jaliou ||
मन मंदर महि दीपकु जलिओ ॥
The lamp is lit within the temple of the mind.
ਜੀਤ ਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਰੀ ॥
Jeeth Haar Kee Sojhee Karee ||
जीत हार की सोझी करी ॥
When he realizes what victory and defeat really are,
ਤਉ ਇਸੁ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੀ ॥੭॥
Tho Eis Ghar Kee Keemath Paree ||7||
तउ इसु घर की कीमति परी ॥७॥
Then he comes to appreciate the true value of his own home. ||7||
