रे चित चेतसि की न दयाल दमोदर बिबहि न जानसि कोई ॥
O my consciousness, why don't you remain conscious of the Merciful Lord? How can you recognize any other?

देइ अहारु अगनि महि राखै ऐसा खसमु हमारा ॥१॥
He gives it sustenance, and preserves it in fire - such is my Lord and Master. ||1||

कुमी जल माहि तन तिसु बाहरि पंख खीरु तिन नाही ॥
The mother turtle is in the water, and her babies are out of the water. She has no wings to protect them, and no milk to feed them.

छैल लंघंदे पारि गोरी मनु धीरिआ ॥

कंचन वंने पासे कलवति चीरिआ ॥४॥
Those who side with the glitter of gold, are cut down with a saw. ||4||
ਸੇਖ ਹੈਯਾਤੀ ਜਗਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
Saekh Haiyaathee Jag N Koee Thhir Rehiaa ||
सेख हैयाती जगि न कोई थिरु रहिआ ॥
O Shaykh, no one's life is permanent in this world.
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਸਣਿ ਹਮ ਬੈਠੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੈਸਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੫॥
Jis Aasan Ham Baithae Kaethae Bais Gaeiaa ||5||
जिसु आसणि हम बैठे केते बैसि गइआ ॥५॥
That seat, upon which we now sit - many others sat on it and have since departed. ||5||
ਕਤਿਕ ਕੂੰਜਾਂ ਚੇਤਿ ਡਉ ਸਾਵਣਿ ਬਿਜੁਲੀਆਂ ॥
Kathik Koonjaan Chaeth Ddo Saavan Bijuleeaaan ||
कतिक कूंजां चेति डउ सावणि बिजुलीआं ॥
As the swallows appear in the month of Katik, forest fires in the month of Chayt, and lightning in Saawan,
ਸੀਆਲੇ ਸੋਹੰਦੀਆਂ ਪਿਰ ਗਲਿ ਬਾਹੜੀਆਂ ॥੬॥
Seeaalae Sohandheeaaan Pir Gal Baaharreeaaan ||6||
सीआले सोहंदीआं पिर गलि बाहड़ीआं ॥६॥
And as the bride's arms adorn her husband's neck in winter;||6||
ਚਲੇ ਚਲਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਲੇਇ ਮਨੋ ॥
Chalae Chalanehaar Vichaaraa Laee Mano ||
चले चलणहार विचारा लेइ मनो ॥
Just so, the transitory human bodies pass away. Reflect upon this in your mind.
ਗੰਢੇਦਿਆਂ ਛਿਅ ਮਾਹ ਤੁੜੰਦਿਆ ਹਿਕੁ ਖਿਨੋ ॥੭॥
Gandtaedhiaaan Shhia Maah Thurrandhiaa Hik Khino ||7||
गंढेदिआं छिअ माह तुड़ंदिआ हिकु खिनो ॥७॥
It takes six months to form the body, but it breaks in an instant. ||7||
ਜਿਮੀ ਪੁਛੈ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਫਰੀਦਾ ਖੇਵਟ ਕਿੰਨਿ ਗਏ ॥
Jimee Pushhai Asamaan Fareedhaa Khaevatt Kinn Geae ||
जिमी पुछै असमान फरीदा खेवट किंनि गए ॥
O Fareed, the earth asks the sky, ""Where have the boatmen gone?""
