ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
Laal Rathaa Man Maaniaa Gur Pooraa Paaeiaa ||2||
लालि रता मनु मानिआ गुरु पूरा पाइआ ॥२॥
Attuned to the Beloved Lord, the mind is appeased, and finds the Perfect Guru. ||2||
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੂ ਵਸੈ ॥
Ho Jeevaa Gun Saar Anthar Thoo Vasai ||
हउ जीवा गुण सारि अंतरि तू वसै ॥
I live, by cherishing Your Glorious Virtues; You dwell deep within me.
ਤੂੰ ਵਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਸਿ ਰਸੈ ॥੩॥
Thoon Vasehi Man Maahi Sehajae Ras Rasai ||3||
तूं वसहि मन माहि सहजे रसि रसै ॥३॥
You dwell within my mind, and so it naturally celebrates in joyful delight. ||3||
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਸਮਝਾਇ ਆਖਉ ਕੇਤੜਾ ॥
Moorakh Man Samajhaae Aakho Kaetharraa ||
मूरख मन समझाइ आखउ केतड़ा ॥
O my foolish mind, how can I teach and instruct you?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗੇਤੜਾ ॥੪॥
Guramukh Har Gun Gaae Rang Rangaetharraa ||4||
गुरमुखि हरि गुण गाइ रंगि रंगेतड़ा ॥४॥
As Gurmukh, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and so become attuned to His Love. ||4||
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਆਪਣਾ ॥
Nith Nith Ridhai Samaal Preetham Aapanaa ||
नित नित रिदै समालि प्रीतमु आपणा ॥
Continually, continuously, remember and cherish your Beloved Lord in your heart.
ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਲਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਤਾਪਣਾ ॥੫॥
Jae Chalehi Gun Naal Naahee Dhukh Santhaapanaa ||5||
जे चलहि गुण नालि नाही दुखु संतापणा ॥५॥
For if you depart with virtue, then pain shall never afflict you. ||5||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੈ ॥
Manamukh Bharam Bhulaanaa Naa This Rang Hai ||
मनमुख भरमि भुलाणा ना तिसु रंगु है ॥
The self-willed manmukh wanders around, deluded by doubt; he does not enshrine love for the Lord.
ਮਰਸੀ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
Marasee Hoe Viddaanaa Man Than Bhang Hai ||6||
मरसी होइ विडाणा मनि तनि भंगु है ॥६॥
He dies as a stranger to his own self, and his mind and body are spoiled. ||6||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ਲਾਹਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥
Gur Kee Kaar Kamaae Laahaa Ghar Aaniaa ||
गुर की कार कमाइ लाहा घरि आणिआ ॥
Performing service to the Guru, you shall go home with the profit.
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
Gurabaanee Nirabaan Sabadh Pashhaaniaa ||7||
गुरबाणी निरबाणु सबदि पछाणिआ ॥७॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Bani, and the Shabad, the Word of God, the state of Nirvaanaa is attained. ||7||
ਇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ॥
Eik Naanak Kee Aradhaas Jae Thudhh Bhaavasee ||
इक नानक की अरदासि जे तुधु भावसी ॥
Nanak makes this one prayer: if it pleases Your Will,
ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਸੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥
Mai Dheejai Naam Nivaas Har Gun Gaavasee ||8||1||3||
मै दीजै नाम निवासु हरि गुण गावसी ॥८॥१॥३॥
Bless me with a home in Your Name, Lord, that I may sing Your Glorious Praises. ||8||1||3||

ਜਿਉ ਆਰਣਿ ਲੋਹਾ ਪਾਇ ਭੰਨਿ ਘੜਾਈਐ ॥
Jio Aaran Lohaa Paae Bhann Gharraaeeai ||
जिउ आरणि लोहा पाइ भंनि घड़ाईऐ ॥
As iron is melted in the forge and re-shaped,
ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਇ ਭਵੈ ਭਵਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
Thio Saakath Jonee Paae Bhavai Bhavaaeeai ||1||
तिउ साकतु जोनी पाइ भवै भवाईऐ ॥१॥
So is the godless materialist reincarnated, and forced to wander aimlessly. ||1||
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ॥
Bin Boojhae Sabh Dhukh Dhukh Kamaavanaa ||
बिनु बूझे सभु दुखु दुखु कमावणा ॥
Without understanding, everything is suffering, earning only more suffering.
ਹਉਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਵਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Houmai Aavai Jaae Bharam Bhulaavanaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
हउमै आवै जाइ भरमि भुलावणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
In his ego, he comes and goes, wandering in confusion, deluded by doubt. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
Thoon Guramukh Rakhanehaar Har Naam Dhhiaaeeai ||
तूं गुरमुखि रखणहारु हरि नामु धिआईऐ ॥
You save those who are Gurmukh, O Lord, through meditation on Your Naam.
ਮੇਲਹਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਰਜਾਇ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
Maelehi Thujhehi Rajaae Sabadh Kamaaeeai ||2||
मेलहि तुझहि रजाइ सबदु कमाईऐ ॥२॥
You blend with Yourself, by Your Will, those who practice the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Thoon Kar Kar Vaekhehi Aap Dhaehi S Paaeeai ||
तूं करि करि वेखहि आपि देहि सु पाईऐ ॥
You created the Creation, and You Yourself gaze upon it; whatever You give, is received.
ਤੂ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਦਰਿ ਬੀਨਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
Thoo Dhaekhehi Thhaap Outhhaap Dhar Beenaaeeai ||3||
तू देखहि थापि उथापि दरि बीनाईऐ ॥३॥
You watch, establish and disestablish; You keep all in Your vision at Your Door. ||3||
ਦੇਹੀ ਹੋਵਗਿ ਖਾਕੁ ਪਵਣੁ ਉਡਾਈਐ ॥
Dhaehee Hovag Khaak Pavan Ouddaaeeai ||
देही होवगि खाकु पवणु उडाईऐ ॥
The body shall turn to dust, and the soul shall fly away.
ਇਹੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਘਰੁ ਅਉਤਾਕੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥
Eihu Kithhai Ghar Aouthaak Mehal N Paaeeai ||4||
इहु किथै घरु अउताकु महलु न पाईऐ ॥४॥
So where are their homes and resting places now? They do not find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, either. ||4||
ਦਿਹੁ ਦੀਵੀ ਅੰਧ ਘੋਰੁ ਘਬੁ ਮੁਹਾਈਐ ॥
Dhihu Dheevee Andhh Ghor Ghab Muhaaeeai ||
दिहु दीवी अंध घोरु घबु मुहाईऐ ॥
In the pitch darkness of broad daylight, their wealth is being plundered.
ਗਰਬਿ ਮੁਸੈ ਘਰੁ ਚੋਰੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਰੂਆਈਐ ॥੫॥
Garab Musai Ghar Chor Kis Rooaaeeai ||5||
गरबि मुसै घरु चोरु किसु रूआईऐ ॥५॥
Pride is looting their homes like a thief; where can they file their complaint? ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚੋਰੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਗਾਈਐ ॥
Guramukh Chor N Laag Har Naam Jagaaeeai ||
गुरमुखि चोरु न लागि हरि नामि जगाईऐ ॥
The thief does not break into the home of the Gurmukh; he is awake in the Name of the Lord.
ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਆਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੀਪਾਈਐ ॥੬॥
Sabadh Nivaaree Aag Joth Dheepaaeeai ||6||
सबदि निवारी आगि जोति दीपाईऐ ॥६॥
The Word of the Shabad puts out the fire of desire; God's Light illuminates and enlightens. ||6||
ਲਾਲੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥
Laal Rathan Har Naam Gur Surath Bujhaaeeai ||
लालु रतनु हरि नामु गुरि सुरति बुझाईऐ ॥
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a jewel, a ruby; the Guru has taught me the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਹਕਾਮੁ ਜੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੭॥
Sadhaa Rehai Nihakaam Jae Guramath Paaeeai ||7||
सदा रहै निहकामु जे गुरमति पाईऐ ॥७॥
One who follows the Guru's Teachings remains forever free of desire. ||7||
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ॥
Raath Dhihai Har Naao Mann Vasaaeeai ||
राति दिहै हरि नाउ मंनि वसाईऐ ॥
Night and day, enshrine the Lord's Name within your mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਈਐ ॥੮॥੨॥੪॥
Naanak Mael Milaae Jae Thudhh Bhaaeeai ||8||2||4||
नानक मेलि मिलाइ जे तुधु भाईऐ ॥८॥२॥४॥
Please unite Nanak in Union, O Lord, if it is pleasing to Your Will. ||8||2||4||

मनहु न नामु विसारि अहिनिसि धिआईऐ ॥
Never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, from your mind; night and day, meditate on it.
ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
Jio Raakhehi Kirapaa Dhhaar Thivai Sukh Paaeeai ||1||
जिउ राखहि किरपा धारि तिवै सुखु पाईऐ ॥१॥
As You keep me, in Your Merciful Grace, so do I find peace. ||1||
ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਕੁਟੀ ਟੋਹਣੀ ॥
Mai Andhhulae Har Naam Lakuttee Ttohanee ||
मै अंधुले हरि नामु लकुटी टोहणी ॥
I am blind, and the Lord's Name is my cane.
ਰਹਉ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਨ ਮੋਹੈ ਮੋਹਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Reho Saahib Kee Ttaek N Mohai Mohanee ||1|| Rehaao ||
रहउ साहिब की टेक न मोहै मोहणी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I remain under the Sheltering Support of my Lord and Master; I am not enticed by Maya the enticer. ||1||Pause||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਲਿਆ ॥
Jeh Dhaekho Theh Naal Gur Dhaekhaaliaa ||
जह देखउ तह नालि गुरि देखालिआ ॥
Wherever I look, there the Guru has shown me that God is always with me.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥੨॥
Anthar Baahar Bhaal Sabadh Nihaaliaa ||2||
अंतरि बाहरि भालि सबदि निहालिआ ॥२॥
Searching inwardly and outwardly as well, I came to see Him, through the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਸੇਵੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥
Saevee Sathigur Bhaae Naam Niranjanaa ||
सेवी सतिगुर भाइ नामु निरंजना ॥
So serve the True Guru with love, through the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਜਾਇ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨਾ ॥੩॥
Thudhh Bhaavai Thivai Rajaae Bharam Bho Bhanjanaa ||3||
तुधु भावै तिवै रजाइ भरमु भउ भंजना ॥३॥
As it pleases You, so by Your Will, You destroy my doubts and fears. ||3||
ਜਨਮਤ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਰਣਾ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥
Janamath Hee Dhukh Laagai Maranaa Aae Kai ||
जनमत ही दुखु लागै मरणा आइ कै ॥
At the very moment of birth, he is afflicted with pain, and in the end, he comes only to die.
ਜਨਮੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੪॥
Janam Maran Paravaan Har Gun Gaae Kai ||4||
जनमु मरणु परवाणु हरि गुण गाइ कै ॥४॥
Birth and death are validated and approved, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||
ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤੁਧ ਹੀ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥
Ho Naahee Thoo Hovehi Thudhh Hee Saajiaa ||
हउ नाही तू होवहि तुध ही साजिआ ॥
When there is no ego, there You are; You fashioned all of this.
