ऐसा नामु निरंजन देउ ॥
Such is the Name of the Immaculate, Divine Lord.

हउ जाचिकु तू अलख अभेउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I am just a beggar; You are invisible and unknowable. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਧਰਕਟੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
Maaeiaa Mohu Dhharakattee Naar ||
माइआ मोहु धरकटी नारि ॥
Love of Maya is like a cursed woman,
ਭੂੰਡੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਾਮਣਿਆਰਿ ॥
Bhoonddee Kaaman Kaamaniaar ||
भूंडी कामणि कामणिआरि ॥
Ugly, dirty and promiscuous.
ਰਾਜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
Raaj Roop Jhoothaa Dhin Chaar ||
राजु रूपु झूठा दिन चारि ॥
Power and beauty are false, and last for only a few days.
ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ॥੨॥
Naam Milai Chaanan Andhhiaar ||2||
नामु मिलै चानणु अंधिआरि ॥२॥
But when one is blessed with the Naam, the darkness within is illuminated. ||2||
ਚਖਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
Chakh Shhoddee Sehasaa Nehee Koe ||
चखि छोडी सहसा नही कोइ ॥
I tasted Maya and renounced it, and now, I have no doubts.
ਬਾਪੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਵੇਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Baap Dhisai Vaejaath N Hoe ||
बापु दिसै वेजाति न होइ ॥
One whose father is known, cannot be illegitimate.
ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
Eaekae Ko Naahee Bho Koe ||
एके कउ नाही भउ कोइ ॥
One who belongs to the One Lord, has no fear.
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
Karathaa Karae Karaavai Soe ||3||
करता करे करावै सोइ ॥३॥
The Creator acts, and causes all to act. ||3||
ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
Sabadh Mueae Man Man Thae Maariaa ||
सबदि मुए मनु मन ते मारिआ ॥
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad conquers his mind, through his mind.
ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
Thaak Rehae Man Saachai Dhhaariaa ||
ठाकि रहे मनु साचै धारिआ ॥
Keeping his mind restrained, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
Avar N Soojhai Gur Ko Vaariaa ||
अवरु न सूझै गुर कउ वारिआ ॥
He does not know any other, and he is a sacrifice to the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥

नानक नामि रते निसतारिआ ॥४॥३॥
O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, he is emancipated. ||4||3||

गुर बचनी मनु सहज धिआने ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the mind intuitively meditates on the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੇ ॥
Har Kai Rang Rathaa Man Maanae ||
हरि कै रंगि रता मनु माने ॥
Imbued with the Lord's Love, the mind is satisfied.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਬਉਰਾਨੇ ॥
Manamukh Bharam Bhulae Bouraanae ||
मनमुख भरमि भुले बउराने ॥
The insane, self-willed manmukhs wander around, deluded by doubt.
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੇ ॥੧॥
Har Bin Kio Reheeai Gur Sabadh Pashhaanae ||1||
हरि बिनु किउ रहीऐ गुर सबदि पछाने ॥१॥
Without the Lord,how can anyone survive? Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad,He is realized. ||1||
ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਵਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
Bin Dharasan Kaisae Jeevo Maeree Maaee ||
बिनु दरसन कैसे जीवउ मेरी माई ॥
Without the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, how can I live, O my mother?
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Har Bin Jeearaa Rehi N Sakai Khin Sathigur Boojh Bujhaaee ||1|| Rehaao ||
हरि बिनु जीअरा रहि न सकै खिनु सतिगुरि बूझ बुझाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Without the Lord, my soul cannot survive, even for an instant; the True Guru has helped me understand this. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਹਉ ਮਰਉ ਦੁਖਾਲੀ ॥
Maeraa Prabh Bisarai Ho Maro Dhukhaalee ||
मेरा प्रभु बिसरै हउ मरउ दुखाली ॥
Forgetting my God, I die in pain.
ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਜਪਉ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲੀ ॥
Saas Giraas Japo Apunae Har Bhaalee ||
सासि गिरासि जपउ अपुने हरि भाली ॥
With each breath and morsel of food, I meditate on my Lord, and seek Him.
ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ॥
Sadh Bairaagan Har Naam Nihaalee ||
सद बैरागनि हरि नामु निहाली ॥
I remain always detached, but I am enraptured with the Lord's Name.
ਅਬ ਜਾਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੀ ॥੨॥
Ab Jaanae Guramukh Har Naalee ||2||
अब जाने गुरमुखि हरि नाली ॥२॥
Now, as Gurmukh, I know that the Lord is always with me. ||2||
ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
Akathh Kathhaa Keheeai Gur Bhaae ||
अकथ कथा कहीऐ गुर भाइ ॥
The Unspoken Speech is spoken, by the Will of the Guru.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
Prabh Agam Agochar Dhaee Dhikhaae ||
प्रभु अगम अगोचरु देइ दिखाइ ॥
He shows us that God is unapproachable and unfathomable.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
Bin Gur Karanee Kiaa Kaar Kamaae ||
बिनु गुर करणी किआ कार कमाइ ॥
Without the Guru, what lifestyle could we practice, and what work could we do?
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਚਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
Houmai Maett Chalai Gur Sabadh Samaae ||3||
हउमै मेटि चलै गुर सबदि समाइ ॥३॥
Eradicating egotism, and walking in harmony with the Guru's Will, I am absorbed in the Word of the Shabad. ||3||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
Manamukh Vishhurrai Khottee Raas ||
मनमुखु विछुड़ै खोटी रासि ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are separated from the Lord, gathering false wealth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
Guramukh Naam Milai Saabaas ||
गुरमुखि नामि मिलै साबासि ॥
The Gurmukhs are celebrated with the glory of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥
Har Kirapaa Dhhaaree Dhaasan Dhaas ||
हरि किरपा धारी दासनि दास ॥
The Lord has showered His Mercy upon me, and made me the slave of His slaves.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪॥

जन नानक हरि नाम धनु रासि ॥४॥४॥

ध्रिगु ध्रिगु खाइआ ध्रिगु ध्रिगु सोइआ ध्रिगु ध्रिगु कापड़ु अंगि चड़ाइआ ॥
Cursed, cursed is the food; cursed, cursed is the sleep; cursed, cursed are the clothes worn on the body.
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹਿਤ ਸਿਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਹੁਣਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Dhhrig Sareer Kuttanb Sehith Sio Jith Hun Khasam N Paaeiaa ||
ध्रिगु सरीरु कुट्मब सहित सिउ जितु हुणि खसमु न पाइआ ॥
Cursed is the body, along with family and friends, when one does not find his Lord and Master in this life.
ਪਉੜੀ ਛੁੜਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
Pourree Shhurrakee Fir Haathh N Aavai Ahilaa Janam Gavaaeiaa ||1||
पउड़ी छुड़की फिरि हाथि न आवै अहिला जनमु गवाइआ ॥१॥
He misses the step of the ladder, and this opportunity will not come into his hands again; his life is wasted, uselessly. ||1||
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਣਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
Dhoojaa Bhaao N Dhaeee Liv Laagan Jin Har Kae Charan Visaarae ||
दूजा भाउ न देई लिव लागणि जिनि हरि के चरण विसारे ॥
The love of duality does not allow him to lovingly focus his attention on the Lord; he forgets the Feet of the Lord.
ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਤੈ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jagajeevan Dhaathaa Jan Saevak Thaerae Thin Kae Thai Dhookh Nivaarae ||1|| Rehaao ||
जगजीवन दाता जन सेवक तेरे तिन के तै दूख निवारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
O Life of the World, O Great Giver, you eradicate the sorrows of your humble servants. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਏਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥
Thoo Dhaeiaal Dhaeiaapath Dhaathaa Kiaa Eaehi Janth Vichaarae ||
तू दइआलु दइआपति दाता किआ एहि जंत विचारे ॥
You are Merciful, O Great Giver of Mercy; what are these poor beings?
ਮੁਕਤ ਬੰਧ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਐਸਾ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥
Mukath Bandhh Sabh Thujh Thae Hoeae Aisaa Aakh Vakhaanae ||
मुकत बंध सभि तुझ ते होए ऐसा आखि वखाणे ॥
All are liberated or placed into bondage by You; this is all one can say.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੰਧ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
Guramukh Hovai So Mukath Keheeai Manamukh Bandhh Vichaarae ||2||
गुरमुखि होवै सो मुकतु कहीऐ मनमुख बंध विचारे ॥२॥
One who becomes Gurmukh is said to be liberated, while the poor self-willed manmukhs are in bondage. ||2||
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
So Jan Mukath Jis Eaek Liv Laagee Sadhaa Rehai Har Naalae ||
सो जनु मुकतु जिसु एक लिव लागी सदा रहै हरि नाले ॥
He alone is liberated, who lovingly focuses his attention on the One Lord, always dwelling with the Lord.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਸਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
Thin Kee Gehan Gath Kehee N Jaaee Sachai Aap Savaarae ||
तिन की गहण गति कही न जाई सचै आपि सवारे ॥
His depth and condition cannot be described. The True Lord Himself embellishes him.
