पूरा पुरखु पाइआ वडभागी सचि नामि लिव लावै ॥
One obtains the Perfect Primal Lord, by great good fortune, lovingly focusing on the True Name.
ਮਤਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

मति परगासु भई मनु मानिआ राम नामि वडिआई ॥
The intellect is enlightened, and the mind is satisfied, through the glory of the Lord's Name.

Gur Santh Jano Piaaraa Mai Miliaa Maeree Thrisanaa Bujh Geeaasae ||
गुरु संत जनो पिआरा मै मिलिआ मेरी त्रिसना बुझि गईआसे ॥
O humble Saints, I have met my Beloved Guru; the fire of my desire is quenched, and my yearning is gone.
ਹਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੈ ਮੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੇ ॥

हउ मनु तनु देवा सतिगुरै मै मेले प्रभ गुणतासे ॥

धनु धंनु गुरू वड पुरखु है मै दसे हरि साबासे ॥
Blessed, blessed is the Guru, the Supreme Being, who tells me of the most blessed Lord.

ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਮਿਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਹਾ ॥
Ghar Aavahu Chiree Vishhunniaa Mil Sabadh Guroo Prabh Naahaa ||
घरि आवहु चिरी विछुंनिआ मिलु सबदि गुरू प्रभ नाहा ॥
Come home - I have been separated from You for so long! Please, let me merge with You, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, O my Lord God.
ਹਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਖਰੀ ਉਡੀਣੀਆ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੀਨੁ ਮਰਾਹਾ ॥
Ho Thujh Baajhahu Kharee Ouddeeneeaa Jio Jal Bin Meen Maraahaa ||
हउ तुझु बाझहु खरी उडीणीआ जिउ जल बिनु मीनु मराहा ॥
Without You, I am so sad; like a fish out of water, I shall die.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥੨॥

वडभागी हरि धिआइआ जन नानक नामि समाहा ॥२॥
The very fortunate ones meditate on the Lord; servant Nanak merges into the Naam. ||2||
ਮਨੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਚਲਿ ਚਲਿ ਭਰਮਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
Man Dheh Dhis Chal Chal Bharamiaa Manamukh Bharam Bhulaaeiaa ||
मनु दह दिसि चलि चलि भरमिआ मनमुखु भरमि भुलाइआ ॥
The mind runs around in the ten directions; the self-willed manmukh wanders around, deluded by doubt.
ਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਮਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਲਗਾਇਆ ॥
Nith Aasaa Man Chithavai Man Thrisanaa Bhukh Lagaaeiaa ||
नित आसा मनि चितवै मन त्रिसना भुख लगाइआ ॥
In his mind, he continually conjures up hopes; his mind is gripped by hunger and thirst.
ਅਨਤਾ ਧਨੁ ਧਰਿ ਦਬਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਾਲਣ ਗਇਆ ॥
Anathaa Dhhan Dhhar Dhabiaa Fir Bikh Bhaalan Gaeiaa ||
अनता धनु धरि दबिआ फिरि बिखु भालण गइआ ॥
There is an infinite treasure buried within the mind, but still, he goes out, searching for poison.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਇਆ ॥੩॥
Jan Naanak Naam Salaahi Thoo Bin Naavai Pach Pach Mueiaa ||3||
जन नानक नामु सलाहि तू बिनु नावै पचि पचि मुइआ ॥३॥
O servant Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the Name, he rots away, and wastes away to death. ||3||

गुरु सुंदरु मोहनु पाइ करे हरि प्रेम बाणी मनु मारिआ ॥
Finding the beautiful and fascinating Guru, I have conquered my mind, through the Bani, the Word of my Beloved Lord.
ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਗਈ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਚਿੰਤ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
Maerai Hiradhai Sudhh Budhh Visar Gee Man Aasaa Chinth Visaariaa ||
मेरै हिरदै सुधि बुधि विसरि गई मन आसा चिंत विसारिआ ॥
My heart has forgotten its common sense and wisdom; my mind has forgotten its hopes and cares.
ਮੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵੇਦਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖਤ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
Mai Anthar Vaedhan Praem Kee Gur Dhaekhath Man Saadhhaariaa ||
मै अंतरि वेदन प्रेम की गुर देखत मनु साधारिआ ॥
Deep within my self, I feel the pains of divine love. Beholding the Guru, my mind is comforted and consoled.

वडभागी प्रभ आइ मिलु जनु नानकु खिनु खिनु वारिआ ॥४॥१॥५॥
Awaken my good destiny, O God - please, come and meet me! Each and every instant, servant Nanak is a sacrifice to You. ||4||1||5||

मारेहिसु वे जन हउमै बिखिआ जिनि हरि प्रभ मिलण न दितीआ ॥
Eradicate the poison of egotism, O human being; it is holding you back from meeting your Lord God.
ਦੇਹ ਕੰਚਨ ਵੇ ਵੰਨੀਆ ਇਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀਆ ॥
Dhaeh Kanchan Vae Vanneeaa Ein Houmai Maar Vigutheeaa ||
देह कंचन वे वंनीआ इनि हउमै मारि विगुतीआ ॥
This golden-colored body has been disfigured and ruined by egotism.
ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਵੇ ਸਭ ਕਾਲਖਾ ਇਨਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੂੜਿ ਸਜੁਤੀਆ ॥
Mohu Maaeiaa Vae Sabh Kaalakhaa Ein Manamukh Moorr Sajutheeaa ||
मोहु माइआ वे सभ कालखा इनि मनमुखि मूड़ि सजुतीआ ॥
Attachment to Maya is total darkness; this foolish, self-willed manmukh is attached to it.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਛੁਟੀਆ ॥੧॥
Jan Naanak Guramukh Oubarae Gur Sabadhee Houmai Shhutteeaa ||1||
जन नानक गुरमुखि उबरे गुर सबदी हउमै छुटीआ ॥१॥
O servant Nanak, the Gurmukh is saved; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is released from egotism. ||1||
ਵਸਿ ਆਣਿਹੁ ਵੇ ਜਨ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਮਨੁ ਬਾਸੇ ਜਿਉ ਨਿਤ ਭਉਦਿਆ ॥
Vas Aanihu Vae Jan Eis Man Ko Man Baasae Jio Nith Bhoudhiaa ||
वसि आणिहु वे जन इसु मन कउ मनु बासे जिउ नित भउदिआ ॥
Overcome and subdue this mind; your mind wanders around continually, like a falcon.
ਦੁਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਵੇ ਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੇਦਿਆ ॥
Dhukh Rain Vae Vihaaneeaa Nith Aasaa Aas Karaedhiaa ||
दुखि रैणि वे विहाणीआ नित आसा आस करेदिआ ॥
The mortal's life-night passes painfully, in constant hope and desire.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਚਉਦਿਆ ॥
Gur Paaeiaa Vae Santh Jano Man Aas Pooree Har Choudhiaa ||
गुरु पाइआ वे संत जनो मनि आस पूरी हरि चउदिआ ॥
I have found the Guru, O humble Saints; my mind's hopes are fulfilled, chanting the Lord's Name.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਤੀ ਛਡਿ ਆਸਾ ਨਿਤ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਉਦਿਆ ॥੨॥
Jan Naanak Prabh Dhaehu Mathee Shhadd Aasaa Nith Sukh Soudhiaa ||2||
जन नानक प्रभ देहु मती छडि आसा नित सुखि सउदिआ ॥२॥
Please bless servant Nanak, O God, with such understanding, that abandoning false hopes, he may always sleep in peace. ||2||
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਆਸਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੇਜੜੀਐ ਆਈ ॥
Saa Dhhan Aasaa Chith Karae Raam Raajiaa Har Prabh Saejarreeai Aaee ||
सा धन आसा चिति करे राम राजिआ हरि प्रभ सेजड़ीऐ आई ॥
The bride hopes in her mind, that her Sovereign Lord God will come to her bed.
ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਅਗਮ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
Maeraa Thaakur Agam Dhaeiaal Hai Raam Raajiaa Kar Kirapaa Laehu Milaaee ||
मेरा ठाकुरु अगम दइआलु है राम राजिआ करि किरपा लेहु मिलाई ॥
My Lord and Master is infinitely compassionate; O Sovereign Lord, be merciful, and merge me into Yourself.
