आई पूता इहु जगु सारा ॥
This whole world is the child of Maya.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਆਦਿ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥
Prabh Aadhaes Aadh Rakhavaaraa ||
प्रभ आदेसु आदि रखवारा ॥
I bow in submission to God, my Protector from the very beginning of time.
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
Aadh Jugaadhee Hai Bhee Hog ||
आदि जुगादी है भी होगु ॥
He was in the beginning, He has been throughout the ages, He is now, and He shall always be.
ਓਹੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧੧॥
Ouhu Aparanpar Karanai Jog ||11||
ओहु अपर्मपरु करणै जोगु ॥११॥
He is unlimited, and capable of doing everything. ||11||
ਦਸਮੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
Dhasamee Naam Dhaan Eisanaan ||
दसमी नामु दानु इसनानु ॥
The Tenth Day: Meditate on the Naam, give to charity, and purify yourself.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
Anadhin Majan Sachaa Gun Giaan ||
अनदिनु मजनु सचा गुण गिआनु ॥
Night and day, bathe in spiritual wisdom and the Glorious Virtues of the True Lord.
ਸਚਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
Sach Mail N Laagai Bhram Bho Bhaagai ||
सचि मैलु न लागै भ्रमु भउ भागै ॥
Truth cannot be polluted; doubt and fear run away from it.
ਬਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਕਾਚੈ ਤਾਗੈ ॥
Bilam N Thoottas Kaachai Thaagai ||
बिलमु न तूटसि काचै तागै ॥
The flimsy thread breaks in an instant.
ਜਿਉ ਤਾਗਾ ਜਗੁ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥
Jio Thaagaa Jag Eaevai Jaanahu ||
जिउ तागा जगु एवै जाणहु ॥
Know that the world is just like this thread.
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਹੁ ॥੧੨॥
Asathhir Cheeth Saach Rang Maanahu ||12||
असथिरु चीतु साचि रंगु माणहु ॥१२॥
Your consciousness shall become steady and stable, enjoying the Love of the True Lord. ||12||
ਏਕਾਦਸੀ ਇਕੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਵੈ ॥
Eaekaadhasee Eik Ridhai Vasaavai ||
एकादसी इकु रिदै वसावै ॥
The Eleventh Day: Enshrine the One Lord within your heart.
ਹਿੰਸਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥
Hinsaa Mamathaa Mohu Chukaavai ||
हिंसा ममता मोहु चुकावै ॥
Eradicate cruelty, egotism and emotional attachment.
ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਆਤਮ ਚੀਨੈ ॥
Fal Paavai Brath Aatham Cheenai ||
फलु पावै ब्रतु आतम चीनै ॥
Earn the fruitful rewards, by observing the fast of knowing your own self.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਰਾਚਿ ਤਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੀਨੈ ॥
Paakhandd Raach Thath Nehee Beenai ||
पाखंडि राचि ततु नही बीनै ॥
One who is engrossed in hypocrisy, does not see the true essence.
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਾਹਾਰੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ॥
Niramal Niraahaar Nihakaeval ||
निरमलु निराहारु निहकेवलु ॥
The Lord is immaculate, self-sustaining and unattached.
ਸੂਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਲੁ ॥੧੩॥
Soochai Saachae Naa Laagai Mal ||13||
सूचै साचे ना लागै मलु ॥१३॥
The Pure, True Lord cannot be polluted. ||13||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਏਕੋ ਏਕਾ ॥
Jeh Dhaekho Theh Eaeko Eaekaa ||
जह देखउ तह एको एका ॥
Wherever I look, I see the One Lord there.
ਹੋਰਿ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਕੋ ਵੇਕਾ ॥
Hor Jeea Oupaaeae Vaeko Vaekaa ||
होरि जीअ उपाए वेको वेका ॥
He created the other beings, of many and various kinds.
ਫਲੋਹਾਰ ਕੀਏ ਫਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
Falohaar Keeeae Fal Jaae ||
फलोहार कीए फलु जाइ ॥
Eating only fruits, one loses the fruits of life.
ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਏ ਸਾਦੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
Ras Kas Khaaeae Saadh Gavaae ||
रस कस खाए सादु गवाइ ॥
Eating only delicacies of various sorts, one loses the true taste.
ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਲਪਟੈ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
Koorrai Laalach Lapattai Lapattaae ||
कूड़ै लालचि लपटै लपटाइ ॥
In fraud and greed, people are engrossed and entangled.
ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੧੪॥
Shhoottai Guramukh Saach Kamaae ||14||
छूटै गुरमुखि साचु कमाइ ॥१४॥
The Gurmukh is emancipated, practicing Truth. ||14||
ਦੁਆਦਸਿ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਅਉਧੂਤਾ ॥
Dhuaadhas Mudhraa Man Aoudhhoothaa ||
दुआदसि मुद्रा मनु अउधूता ॥
The Twelfth Day: One whose mind is not attached to the twelve signs,
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਸੂਤਾ ॥
Ahinis Jaagehi Kabehi N Soothaa ||
अहिनिसि जागहि कबहि न सूता ॥
Remains awake day and night, and never sleeps.
ਜਾਗਤੁ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
Jaagath Jaag Rehai Liv Laae ||
जागतु जागि रहै लिव लाइ ॥
He remains awake and aware, lovingly centered on the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥
Gur Parachai This Kaal N Khaae ||
गुर परचै तिसु कालु न खाइ ॥
With faith in the Guru, he is not consumed by death.
ਅਤੀਤ ਭਏ ਮਾਰੇ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥
Atheeth Bheae Maarae Bairaaee ||
अतीत भए मारे बैराई ॥
Those who become detached, and conquer the five enemies
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਹ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧੫॥
Pranavath Naanak Theh Liv Laaee ||15||
प्रणवति नानक तह लिव लाई ॥१५॥
- prays Nanak, they are lovingly absorbed in the Lord. ||15||
ਦੁਆਦਸੀ ਦਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Dhuaadhasee Dhaeiaa Dhaan Kar Jaanai ||
दुआदसी दइआ दानु करि जाणै ॥
The Twelfth Day: Know, and practice, compassion and charity.
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਤੋ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥
Baahar Jaatho Bheethar Aanai ||
बाहरि जातो भीतरि आणै ॥
Bring your out-going mind back home.
ਬਰਤੀ ਬਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ॥
Barathee Barath Rehai Nihakaam ||
बरती बरत रहै निहकाम ॥
Observe the fast of remaining free of desire.
ਅਜਪਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
Ajapaa Jaap Japai Mukh Naam ||
अजपा जापु जपै मुखि नाम ॥
Chant the unchanted Chant of the Naam with your mouth.
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Theen Bhavan Mehi Eaeko Jaanai ||
तीनि भवण महि एको जाणै ॥
Know that the One Lord is contained in the three worlds.
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੧੬॥
Sabh Such Sanjam Saach Pashhaanai ||16||
सभि सुचि संजम साचु पछाणै ॥१६॥
Purity and self-discipline are all contained in knowing the Truth. ||16||
ਤੇਰਸਿ ਤਰਵਰ ਸਮੁਦ ਕਨਾਰੈ ॥
Thaeras Tharavar Samudh Kanaarai ||
तेरसि तरवर समुद कनारै ॥
The Thirteenth Day: He is like a tree on the sea-shore.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਿਖਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰੈ ॥
Anmrith Mool Sikhar Liv Thaarai ||
अम्रितु मूलु सिखरि लिव तारै ॥
But his roots can become immortal, if his mind is attuned to the Lord's Love.
ਡਰ ਡਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਬੂਡੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Ddar Ddar Marai N Booddai Koe ||
डर डरि मरै न बूडै कोइ ॥
Then, he will not die of fear or anxiety, and he will never drown.
ਨਿਡਰੁ ਬੂਡਿ ਮਰੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
Niddar Boodd Marai Path Khoe ||
निडरु बूडि मरै पति खोइ ॥
Without the Fear of God, he drowns and dies, and loses his honor.
ਡਰ ਮਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Ddar Mehi Ghar Ghar Mehi Ddar Jaanai ||
डर महि घरु घर महि डरु जाणै ॥
With the Fear of God in his heart, and his heart in the Fear of God, he knows God.
ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੈ ॥੧੭॥
Thakhath Nivaas Sach Man Bhaanai ||17||
तखति निवासु सचु मनि भाणै ॥१७॥
He sits on the throne, and becomes pleasing to the Mind of the True Lord. ||17||
ਚਉਦਸਿ ਚਉਥੇ ਥਾਵਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Choudhas Chouthhae Thhaavehi Lehi Paavai ||
चउदसि चउथे थावहि लहि पावै ॥
The Fourteenth Day: One who enters into the fourth state,
ਰਾਜਸ ਤਾਮਸ ਸਤ ਕਾਲ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
Raajas Thaamas Sath Kaal Samaavai ||
राजस तामस सत काल समावै ॥
Overcomes time, and the three qualities of raajas, taamas and satva.
ਸਸੀਅਰ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਰੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
Saseear Kai Ghar Soor Samaavai ||
ससीअर कै घरि सूरु समावै ॥
Then the sun enters into the house of the moon,
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Jog Jugath Kee Keemath Paavai ||
जोग जुगति की कीमति पावै ॥
And one knows the value of the technology of Yoga.
ਚਉਦਸਿ ਭਵਨ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
Choudhas Bhavan Paathaal Samaaeae ||
चउदसि भवन पाताल समाए ॥
He remains lovingly focused on God, who is permeating the fourteen worlds,
ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੧੮॥
Khandd Brehamandd Rehiaa Liv Laaeae ||18||
खंड ब्रहमंड रहिआ लिव लाए ॥१८॥
The nether regions of the underworld, the galaxies and solar systems. ||18||
ਅਮਾਵਸਿਆ ਚੰਦੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਗੈਣਾਰਿ ॥
Amaavasiaa Chandh Gupath Gainaar ||
अमावसिआ चंदु गुपतु गैणारि ॥
Amaavas - The Night of the New Moon: The moon is hidden in the sky.
ਬੂਝਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Boojhahu Giaanee Sabadh Beechaar ||
बूझहु गिआनी सबदु बीचारि ॥
O wise one, understand and contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਸੀਅਰੁ ਗਗਨਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਈ ॥
Saseear Gagan Joth Thihu Loee ||
ससीअरु गगनि जोति तिहु लोई ॥
The moon in the sky illuminates the three worlds.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
Kar Kar Vaekhai Karathaa Soee ||
करि करि वेखै करता सोई ॥
Creating the creation, the Creator beholds it.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Gur Thae Dheesai So This Hee Maahi ||
गुर ते दीसै सो तिस ही माहि ॥
One who sees, through the Guru, merges into Him.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧੯॥
Manamukh Bhoolae Aavehi Jaahi ||19||
मनमुखि भूले आवहि जाहि ॥१९॥
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded, coming and going in reincarnation. ||19||
ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਥਾਨਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
Ghar Dhar Thhaap Thhir Thhaan Suhaavai ||
घरु दरु थापि थिरु थानि सुहावै ॥
One who establishes his home within his own heart, obtains the most beautiful, permanent place.
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Aap Pashhaanai Jaa Sathigur Paavai ||
आपु पछाणै जा सतिगुरु पावै ॥
One comes to understand his own self, when he finds the True Guru.
ਜਹ ਆਸਾ ਤਹ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥
Jeh Aasaa Theh Binas Binaasaa ||
जह आसा तह बिनसि बिनासा ॥
Wherever there is hope, there is destruction and desolation.
ਫੂਟੈ ਖਪਰੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਨਸਾ ॥
Foottai Khapar Dhubidhhaa Manasaa ||
फूटै खपरु दुबिधा मनसा ॥
The bowl of duality and selfishness breaks.
ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਲ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥
Mamathaa Jaal Thae Rehai Oudhaasaa ||
ममता जाल ते रहै उदासा ॥
Prays Nanak, I am the slave of that one,
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੨੦॥੧॥
