Jo Dhaekh Dhikhaavai This Ko Bal Jaaee ||
जो देखि दिखावै तिस कउ बलि जाई ॥
I am a sacrifice to one who sees, and inspires others to see Him.

गुर परसादि परम पदु पाई ॥१॥
By Guru's Grace, I have obtained the supreme status. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥
Kiaa Jap Jaapo Bin Jagadheesai ||
किआ जपु जापउ बिनु जगदीसै ॥
Whose Name should I chant, and meditate on, except the Lord of the Universe?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर कै सबदि महलु घरु दीसै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is revealed within the home of one's own heart. ||1||Pause||
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Lagae Pashhuthaanae ||
दूजै भाइ लगे पछुताणे ॥
The Second Day: Those who are in love with another, come to regret and repent.
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੇ ॥
Jam Dhar Baadhhae Aavan Jaanae ||
जम दरि बाधे आवण जाणे ॥
The are tied up at Death's door, and continue coming and going.
ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਵਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
Kiaa Lai Aavehi Kiaa Lae Jaahi ||
किआ लै आवहि किआ ले जाहि ॥
What have they brought, and what will they take with them when they go?
ਸਿਰਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
Sir Jamakaal S Chottaa Khaahi ||
सिरि जमकालु सि चोटा खाहि ॥
The Messenger of Death looms over their heads, and they endure his beating.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥
Bin Gur Sabadh N Shhoottas Koe ||
बिनु गुर सबद न छूटसि कोइ ॥
Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, no one finds release.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
Paakhandd Keenhai Mukath N Hoe ||2||
पाखंडि कीन्है मुकति न होइ ॥२॥
Practicing hypocrisy, no one finds liberation. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ॥
Aapae Sach Keeaa Kar Jorr ||
आपे सचु कीआ कर जोड़ि ॥
The True Lord Himself created the universe, joining the elements together.
ਅੰਡਜ ਫੋੜਿ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿ ॥
Anddaj Forr Jorr Vishhorr ||
अंडज फोड़ि जोड़ि विछोड़ि ॥
Breaking the cosmic egg, He united, and separated.
ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਕੀਏ ਬੈਸਣ ਕਉ ਥਾਉ ॥
Dhharath Akaas Keeeae Baisan Ko Thhaao ||
धरति अकासु कीए बैसण कउ थाउ ॥
He made the earth and the sky into places to live.
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤੁ ਕੀਏ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ॥
Raath Dhinanth Keeeae Bho Bhaao ||
राति दिनंतु कीए भउ भाउ ॥
He created day and night, fear and love.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
Jin Keeeae Kar Vaekhanehaaraa ||
जिनि कीए करि वेखणहारा ॥
The One who created the Creation, also watches over it.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
Avar N Dhoojaa Sirajanehaaraa ||3||
अवरु न दूजा सिरजणहारा ॥३॥
There is no other Creator Lord. ||3||
ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥
Thritheeaa Brehamaa Bisan Mehaesaa ||
त्रितीआ ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसा ॥
The Third Day: He created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਸਾ ॥
Dhaevee Dhaev Oupaaeae Vaesaa ||
देवी देव उपाए वेसा ॥
The gods, goddesses and various manifestations.
ਜੋਤੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
Jothee Jaathee Ganath N Aavai ||
जोती जाती गणत न आवै ॥
The lights and forms cannot be counted.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Jin Saajee So Keemath Paavai ||
जिनि साजी सो कीमति पावै ॥
The One who fashioned them, knows their value.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
Keemath Paae Rehiaa Bharapoor ||
कीमति पाइ रहिआ भरपूरि ॥
He evaluates them, and totally pervades them.
ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥
Kis Naerrai Kis Aakhaa Dhoor ||4||
किसु नेड़ै किसु आखा दूरि ॥४॥
Who is close, and who is far away? ||4||
ਚਉਥਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦਾ ॥
Chouthh Oupaaeae Chaarae Baedhaa ||
चउथि उपाए चारे बेदा ॥
The Fourth Day: He created the four Vedas,
ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਭੇਦਾ ॥
Khaanee Chaarae Baanee Bhaedhaa ||
खाणी चारे बाणी भेदा ॥
The four sources of creation, and distinct forms of speech.
ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਖਟੁ ਤੀਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
Asatt Dhasaa Khatt Theen Oupaaeae ||
असट दसा खटु तीनि उपाए ॥
He created the eighteen Puraanas, the six Shaastras and the three qualities.
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
So Boojhai Jis Aap Bujhaaeae ||
सो बूझै जिसु आपि बुझाए ॥
He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand.
ਤੀਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਚਉਥੈ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
Theen Samaavai Chouthhai Vaasaa ||
तीनि समावै चउथै वासा ॥
One who overcomes the three qualities, dwells in the fourth state.
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੫॥
Pranavath Naanak Ham Thaa Kae Dhaasaa ||5||
प्रणवति नानक हम ता के दासा ॥५॥
Prays Nanak, I am his slave. ||5||
ਪੰਚਮੀ ਪੰਚ ਭੂਤ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥
Panchamee Panch Bhooth Baethaalaa ||
पंचमी पंच भूत बेताला ॥
The Fifth Day: The five elements are demons.
ਆਪਿ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
Aap Agochar Purakh Niraalaa ||
आपि अगोचरु पुरखु निराला ॥
The Lord Himself is unfathomable and detached.
ਇਕਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ॥
Eik Bhram Bhookhae Moh Piaasae ||
इकि भ्रमि भूखे मोह पिआसे ॥
Some are gripped by doubt, hunger, emotional attachment and desire.
ਇਕਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ॥
Eik Ras Chaakh Sabadh Thripathaasae ||
इकि रसु चाखि सबदि त्रिपतासे ॥
Some taste the sublime essence of the Shabad, and are satisfied.
ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਮਰਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
Eik Rang Raathae Eik Mar Dhhoor ||
इकि रंगि राते इकि मरि धूरि ॥
Some are imbued with the Lord's Love, while some die, and are reduced to dust.
ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੬॥
Eik Dhar Ghar Saachai Dhaekh Hadhoor ||6||
इकि दरि घरि साचै देखि हदूरि ॥६॥
Some attain the Court and the Mansion of the True Lord, and behold Him, ever-present. ||6||
ਝੂਠੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
Jhoothae Ko Naahee Path Naao ||
झूठे कउ नाही पति नाउ ॥
The false one has no honor or fame;
ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਕਾਉ ॥
Kabahu N Soochaa Kaalaa Kaao ||
कबहु न सूचा काला काउ ॥
Like the black crow, he never becomes pure.
ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਪੰਖੀ ਬੰਧਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥
Pinjar Pankhee Bandhhiaa Koe ||
पिंजरि पंखी बंधिआ कोइ ॥
He is like the bird, imprisoned in a cage;
ਛੇਰੀਂ ਭਰਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Shhaereen Bharamai Mukath N Hoe ||
छेरीं भरमै मुकति न होइ ॥
He paces back and forth behind the bars, but he is not released.
ਤਉ ਛੂਟੈ ਜਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥
Tho Shhoottai Jaa Khasam Shhaddaaeae ||
तउ छूटै जा खसमु छडाए ॥
He alone is emancipated, whom the Lord and Master emancipates.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੭॥
Guramath Maelae Bhagath Dhrirraaeae ||7||
गुरमति मेले भगति द्रिड़ाए ॥७॥
He follows the Guru's Teachings, and enshrines devotional worship. ||7||
ਖਸਟੀ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
Khasattee Khatt Dharasan Prabh Saajae ||
खसटी खटु दरसन प्रभ साजे ॥
The Sixth Day: God organized the six systems of Yoga.
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਵਾਜੇ ॥
Anehadh Sabadh Niraalaa Vaajae ||
अनहद सबदु निराला वाजे ॥
The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates of itself.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
Jae Prabh Bhaavai Thaa Mehal Bulaavai ||
जे प्रभ भावै ता महलि बुलावै ॥
If God wills it so, then one is summoned to the Mansion of His Presence.
ਸਬਦੇ ਭੇਦੇ ਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Sabadhae Bhaedhae Tho Path Paavai ||
सबदे भेदे तउ पति पावै ॥
One who is pierced through by the Shabad, obtains honor.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਸ ਖਪਹਿ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
Kar Kar Vaes Khapehi Jal Jaavehi ||
करि करि वेस खपहि जलि जावहि ॥
Those who wear religious robes burn, and are ruined.
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੮॥
Saachai Saachae Saach Samaavehi ||8||
साचै साचे साचि समावहि ॥८॥
Through Truth, the truthful ones merge into the True Lord. ||8||
ਸਪਤਮੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
Sapathamee Sath Santhokh Sareer ||
सपतमी सतु संतोखु सरीरि ॥
The Seventh Day: When the body is imbued with Truth and contentment,
ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਭਰੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨੀਰਿ ॥
Saath Samundh Bharae Niramal Neer ||
सात समुंद भरे निरमल नीरि ॥
The seven seas within are filled with the Immaculate Water.
ਮਜਨੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Majan Seel Sach Ridhai Veechaar ||
मजनु सीलु सचु रिदै वीचारि ॥
Bathing in good conduct, and contemplating the True Lord within the heart,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
Gur Kai Sabadh Paavai Sabh Paar ||
गुर कै सबदि पावै सभि पारि ॥
One obtains the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and carries everyone across.
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਉ ਭਾਇ ॥
Man Saachaa Mukh Saacho Bhaae ||
मनि साचा मुखि साचउ भाइ ॥
With the True Lord in the mind, and the True Lord lovingly on one's lips,
ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੯॥
Sach Neesaanai Thaak N Paae ||9||
सचु नीसाणै ठाक न पाइ ॥९॥
One is blessed with the banner of Truth, and meets with no obstructions. ||9||
ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਾਧੈ ॥
Asattamee Asatt Sidhh Budhh Saadhhai ||
असटमी असट सिधि बुधि साधै ॥
The Eighth Day: The eight miraculous powers come when one subdues his own mind,
ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਅਰਾਧੈ ॥
Sach Nihakaeval Karam Araadhhai ||
सचु निहकेवलु करमि अराधै ॥
And contemplates the True Lord through pure actions.
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਬਿਸਰਾਉ ॥
Poun Paanee Aganee Bisaraao ||
पउण पाणी अगनी बिसराउ ॥
Forget the three qualities of wind, water and fire,
ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
Thehee Niranjan Saacho Naao ||
तही निरंजनु साचो नाउ ॥
And concentrate on the pure True Name.
ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
This Mehi Manooaa Rehiaa Liv Laae ||
तिसु महि मनूआ रहिआ लिव लाइ ॥
That human who remains lovingly focused on the Lord,
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
Pranavath Naanak Kaal N Khaae ||10||
प्रणवति नानकु कालु न खाइ ॥१०॥
Prays Nanak, shall not be consumed by death. ||10||
ਨਾਉ ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਨਾਥ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਾ ॥
Naao Noumee Navae Naathh Nav Khanddaa ||
नाउ नउमी नवे नाथ नव खंडा ॥
The Ninth Day: The Name is the supreme almighty Master of the nine masters of Yoga,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਵੰਡਾ ॥
Ghatt Ghatt Naathh Mehaa Balavanddaa ||
घटि घटि नाथु महा बलवंडा ॥
The nine realms of the earth, and each and every heart.
