Mil Sathasangath Param Padh Paaeiaa Mai Hiradd Palaas Sang Har Buheeaa ||1||
मिलि सतसंगति परम पदु पाइआ मै हिरड पलास संगि हरि बुहीआ ॥१॥
Joining the Society of the Saints, I have obtained the supreme status. I am just a castor-oil tree, made fragrant by their association. ||1||
ਜਪਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਈਆ ॥

Meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Master of the world, the Lord of creation.
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Saran Parae Saeee Jan Oubarae Jio Prehilaadh Oudhhaar Sameeaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
सरणि परे सेई जन उबरे जिउ प्रहिलाद उधारि समईआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Those humble beings who seek the Lord's Sanctuary are saved, like Prahlaad; they are emancipated and merge with the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਮਹਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਊਤਮ ਚੰਦਨ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਸਭ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਹੁਈਆ ॥
Bhaar Athaareh Mehi Chandhan Ootham Chandhan Nikatt Sabh Chandhan Hueeaa ||
भार अठारह महि चंदनु ऊतम चंदन निकटि सभ चंदनु हुईआ ॥
Of all plants, the sandalwood tree is the most sublime. Everything near the sandalwood tree becomes fragrant like sandalwood.
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੂੜੇ ਊਭ ਸੁਕ ਹੂਏ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਗਈਆ ॥੨॥
Saakath Koorrae Oobh Suk Hooeae Man Abhimaan Vishhurr Dhoor Geeaa ||2||
साकत कूड़े ऊभ सुक हूए मनि अभिमानु विछुड़ि दूरि गईआ ॥२॥
The stubborn, false faithless cynics are dried up; their egotistical pride separates them far from the Lord. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਈਆ ॥
Har Gath Mith Karathaa Aapae Jaanai Sabh Bidhh Har Har Aap Baneeaa ||
हरि गति मिति करता आपे जाणै सभ बिधि हरि हरि आपि बनईआ ॥
Only the Creator Lord Himself knows the state and condition of everyone; the Lord Himself makes all the arrangements.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੁ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮਿਟਈਆ ॥੩॥
Jis Sathigur Bhaettae S Kanchan Hovai Jo Dhhur Likhiaa S Mittai N Mitteeaa ||3||
जिसु सतिगुरु भेटे सु कंचनु होवै जो धुरि लिखिआ सु मिटै न मिटईआ ॥३॥
One who meets the True Guru is transformed into gold. Whatever is pre-ordained, is not erased by erasing. ||3||
ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਈਆ ॥
Rathan Padhaarathh Guramath Paavai Saagar Bhagath Bhanddaar Khulheeaa ||
रतन पदारथ गुरमति पावै सागर भगति भंडार खुल्हईआ ॥
The treasure of jewels is found in the ocean of the Guru's Teachings. The treasure of devotional worship is opened to me.
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਇਕ ਸਰਧਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਭਈਆ ॥੪॥
Gur Charanee Eik Saradhhaa Oupajee Mai Har Gun Kehathae Thripath N Bheeaa ||4||
गुर चरणी इक सरधा उपजी मै हरि गुण कहते त्रिपति न भईआ ॥४॥
Focused on the Guru's Feet, faith wells up within me; chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I hunger for more. ||4||
ਪਰਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਕਹੀਆ ॥
Param Bairaag Nith Nith Har Dhhiaaeae Mai Har Gun Kehathae Bhaavanee Keheeaa ||
परम बैरागु नित नित हरि धिआए मै हरि गुण कहते भावनी कहीआ ॥
I am totally detached, continually, continuously meditating on the Lord; chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I express my love for Him.
ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਰੈ ਪਰਈਆ ॥੫॥
Baar Baar Khin Khin Pal Keheeai Har Paar N Paavai Parai Pareeaa ||5||
बार बार खिनु खिनु पलु कहीऐ हरि पारु न पावै परै परईआ ॥५॥
Time and time again, each and every moment and instant, I express it. I cannot find the Lord's limits; He is the farthest of the far. ||5||
ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥
Saasath Baedh Puraan Pukaarehi Dhharam Karahu Khatt Karam Dhrirreeaa ||
सासत बेद पुराण पुकारहि धरमु करहु खटु करम द्रिड़ईआ ॥
The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Puraanas advise righteous actions, and the performance of the six religious rituals.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੂਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਨਾਵ ਭਾਰਿ ਬੁਡਈਆ ॥੬॥
Manamukh Paakhandd Bharam Vigoothae Lobh Lehar Naav Bhaar Buddeeaa ||6||
मनमुख पाखंडि भरमि विगूते लोभ लहरि नाव भारि बुडईआ ॥६॥
The hypocritical, self-willed manmukhs are ruined by doubt; in the waves of greed, their boat is heavily loaded, and it sinks. ||6||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥
Naam Japahu Naamae Gath Paavahu Simrith Saasathr Naam Dhrirreeaa ||
नामु जपहु नामे गति पावहु सिम्रिति सासत्र नामु द्रिड़ईआ ॥
So chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and through the Naam, find emancipation. The Simritees and Shaastras recommend the Naam.
ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥
Houmai Jaae Th Niramal Hovai Guramukh Parachai Param Padh Peeaa ||7||
हउमै जाइ त निरमलु होवै गुरमुखि परचै परम पदु पईआ ॥७॥
Eradicating egotism, one becomes pure. The Gurmukh is inspired, and obtains the supreme status. ||7||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਵਰਨੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਈਆ ॥
Eihu Jag Varan Roop Sabh Thaeraa Jith Laavehi Sae Karam Kameeaa ||
इहु जगु वरनु रूपु सभु तेरा जितु लावहि से करम कमईआ ॥
This world, with its colors and forms, is all Yours, O Lord; as You attach us, so do we do our deeds.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਜਾਏ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲਈਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੫॥
Naanak Janth Vajaaeae Vaajehi Jith Bhaavai Thith Raahi Chaleeaa ||8||2||5||
नानक जंत वजाए वाजहि जितु भावै तितु राहि चलईआ ॥८॥२॥५॥
O Nanak, we are the instruments upon which He plays; as He wills, so is the path we take. ||8||2||5||

Guramukh Agam Agochar Dhhiaaeiaa Ho Bal Bal Sathigur Sath Purakheeaa ||
गुरमुखि अगम अगोचरु धिआइआ हउ बलि बलि सतिगुर सति पुरखईआ ॥
The Gurmukh meditates on the Inaccessible, Unfathomable Lord. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the True Guru, the True Primal Being.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥
Raam Naam Maerai Praan Vasaaeae Sathigur Paras Har Naam Sameeaa ||1||
राम नामु मेरै प्राणि वसाए सतिगुर परसि हरि नामि समईआ ॥१॥
He has brought the Lord's Name to dwell upon my breath of life; meeting with the True Guru, I am absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਟਿਕਈਆ ॥
Jan Kee Ttaek Har Naam Ttikeeaa ||
जन की टेक हरि नामु टिकईआ ॥
The Name of the Lord is the only Support of His humble servants.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਧਰ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sathigur Kee Dhhar Laagaa Jaavaa Gur Kirapaa Thae Har Dhar Leheeaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
सतिगुर की धर लागा जावा गुर किरपा ते हरि दरु लहीआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I shall live under the protection of the True Guru. By Guru's Grace, I shall attain the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਥਿ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢਈਆ ॥
Eihu Sareer Karam Kee Dhharathee Guramukh Mathh Mathh Thath Kadteeaa ||
इहु सरीरु करम की धरती गुरमुखि मथि मथि ततु कढईआ ॥
This body is the field of karma; the Gurmukhs plow and work it, and harvest the essence.
ਲਾਲੁ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਪਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਅਈਆ ॥੨॥
Laal Javaehar Naam Pragaasiaa Bhaanddai Bhaao Pavai Thith Aeeaa ||2||
लालु जवेहर नामु प्रगासिआ भांडै भाउ पवै तितु अईआ ॥२॥
The priceless jewel of the Naam becomes manifest, and it pours into their vessels of love. ||2||
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਜ ਭਈਆ ॥
Dhaasan Dhaas Dhaas Hoe Reheeai Jo Jan Raam Bhagath Nij Bheeaa ||
दासनि दास दास होइ रहीऐ जो जन राम भगत निज भईआ ॥
Become the slave of the slave of the slave, of that humble being who has become the devotee of the Lord.
ਮਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਈਆ ॥੩॥
Man Budhh Arap Dhharo Gur Aagai Gur Parasaadhee Mai Akathh Kathheeaa ||3||
मनु बुधि अरपि धरउ गुर आगै गुर परसादी मै अकथु कथईआ ॥३॥
I dedicate my mind and intellect, and place them in offering before my Guru; by Guru's Grace, I speak the Unspoken. ||3||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਤਿਖਈਆ ॥
Manamukh Maaeiaa Mohi Viaapae Eihu Man Thrisanaa Jalath Thikheeaa ||
मनमुख माइआ मोहि विआपे इहु मनु त्रिसना जलत तिखईआ ॥
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in attachment to Maya; their minds are thirsty, burning with desire.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਈਆ ॥੪॥
Guramath Naam Anmrith Jal Paaeiaa Agan Bujhee Gur Sabadh Bujheeaa ||4||
गुरमति नामु अम्रित जलु पाइआ अगनि बुझी गुर सबदि बुझईआ ॥४॥
Following the Guru's Teachings, I have obtained the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, and the fire has been put out. The Word of the Guru's Shabad has put it out. ||4||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥
Eihu Man Naachai Sathigur Aagai Anehadh Sabadh Dhhun Thoor Vajeeaa ||
इहु मनु नाचै सतिगुर आगै अनहद सबद धुनि तूर वजईआ ॥
This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody.
