Jae So Lochai Rang N Hovai Koe ||3||
जे सउ लोचै रंगु न होवै कोइ ॥३॥
Even if he wishes it a hundred times, he does not obtain the Lord's Love. ||3||
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Nadhar Karae Thaa Sathigur Paavai ||
नदरि करे ता सतिगुरु पावै ॥
But if the Lord blesses him with His Glance of Grace, then he meets the True Guru.

जिहवा हरि रसि रही अघाइ ॥
My tongue remains satisfied with the subtle essence of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
Guramukh Peevai Sehaj Samaae ||1||
गुरमुखि पीवै सहजि समाइ ॥१॥
The Gurmukh drinks it in, and merges in celestial peace. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਨ ਚਾਖਹੁ ਜੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

हरि रसु जन चाखहु जे भाई ॥
If you taste the subtle essence of the Lord, O humble Siblings of Destiny,

गुरमति रसु राखहु उर धारि ॥
Under Guru's Instructions, keep this subtle essence enshrined in your heart.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
Har Ras Raathae Rang Muraar ||2||
हरि रसि राते रंगि मुरारि ॥२॥
Those who are imbued with the subtle essence of the Lord, are immersed in celestial bliss. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Manamukh Har Ras Chaakhiaa N Jaae ||
मनमुखि हरि रसु चाखिआ न जाइ ॥
The self-willed manmukh cannot even taste the subtle essence of the Lord.
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
Houmai Karai Bahuthee Milai Sajaae ||3||
हउमै करै बहुती मिलै सजाइ ॥३॥
He acts out in ego, and suffers terrible punishment. ||3||
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Nadhar Karae Thaa Har Ras Paavai ||
नदरि करे ता हरि रसु पावै ॥
But if he is blessed with the Lord's Kind Mercy, then he obtains the subtle essence of the Lord.

नीच जाति हरि जपतिआ उतम पदवी पाइ ॥
When someone of low social class chants the Lord's Name, he obtains the state of highest dignity.
ਪੂਛਹੁ ਬਿਦਰ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤੈ ਕਿਸਨੁ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Pooshhahu Bidhar Dhaasee Suthai Kisan Outhariaa Ghar Jis Jaae ||1||
पूछहु बिदर दासी सुतै किसनु उतरिआ घरि जिसु जाइ ॥१॥
Go and ask Bidar, the son of a maid; Krishna himself stayed in his house. ||1||

Listen, O humble Siblings of Destiny, to the Unspoken Speech of the Lord; it removes all anxiety, pain and hunger. ||1||Pause||
ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਚਮਾਰੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਇਕ ਗਾਇ ॥
Ravidhaas Chamaar Ousathath Karae Har Keerath Nimakh Eik Gaae ||
रविदासु चमारु उसतति करे हरि कीरति निमख इक गाइ ॥
Ravi Daas, the leather-worker, praised the Lord, and sang the Kirtan of His Praises each and every instant.
ਪਤਿਤ ਜਾਤਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਪਏ ਪਗਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
Pathith Jaath Outham Bhaeiaa Chaar Varan Peae Pag Aae ||2||
पतित जाति उतमु भइआ चारि वरन पए पगि आइ ॥२॥
Although he was of low social status, he was exalted and elevated, and people of all four castes came and bowed at his feet. ||2||
ਨਾਮਦੇਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲੋਕੁ ਛੀਪਾ ਕਹੈ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
Naamadhaea Preeth Lagee Har Saethee Lok Shheepaa Kehai Bulaae ||
नामदेअ प्रीति लगी हरि सेती लोकु छीपा कहै बुलाइ ॥
Naam Dayv loved the Lord; the people called him a fabric dyer.
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਪਿਠਿ ਦੇ ਛੋਡੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਲੀਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
Khathree Braahaman Pith Dhae Shhoddae Har Naamadhaeo Leeaa Mukh Laae ||3||
खत्री ब्राहमण पिठि दे छोडे हरि नामदेउ लीआ मुखि लाइ ॥३॥
The Lord turned His back on the high-class Kh'shaatriyas and Brahmins, and showed His face to Naam Dayv. ||3||
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਤਿਨ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਕਢਾਇ ॥
Jithanae Bhagath Har Saevakaa Mukh Athasath Theerathh Thin Thilak Kadtaae ||
जितने भगत हरि सेवका मुखि अठसठि तीरथ तिन तिलकु कढाइ ॥
All of the devotees and servants of the Lord have the tilak, the ceremonial mark, applied to their foreheads at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪਰਸੇ ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੮॥
Jan Naanak Thin Ko Anadhin Parasae Jae Kirapaa Karae Har Raae ||4||1||8||
जनु नानकु तिन कउ अनदिनु परसे जे क्रिपा करे हरि राइ ॥४॥१॥८॥
Servant Nanak shall touch their feet night and day, if the Lord, the King, grants His Grace. ||4||1||8||

Thinhee Anthar Har Aaraadhhiaa Jin Ko Dhhur Likhiaa Likhath Lilaaraa ||
तिन्ही अंतरि हरि आराधिआ जिन कउ धुरि लिखिआ लिखतु लिलारा ॥
They alone worship and adore the Lord deep within, who are blessed with such pre-ordained destiny from the very beginning of time.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਗੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

तिन की बखीली कोई किआ करे जिन का अंगु करे मेरा हरि करतारा ॥१॥
What can anyone do to undermine them? My Creator Lord is on their side. ||1||

हरि हरि धिआइ मन मेरे मन धिआइ हरि जनम जनम के सभि दूख निवारणहारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
So meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind. Meditate on the Lord, O mind; He is the Eliminator of all the pains of reincarnation. ||1||Pause||
ਧੁਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
Dhhur Bhagath Janaa Ko Bakhasiaa Har Anmrith Bhagath Bhanddaaraa ||
धुरि भगत जना कउ बखसिआ हरि अम्रित भगति भंडारा ॥
In the very beginning, the Lord blessed His devotees with the Ambrosial Nectar, the treasure of devotion.
ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਉਨ ਕੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
Moorakh Hovai S Oun Kee Rees Karae This Halath Palath Muhu Kaaraa ||2||
मूरखु होवै सु उन की रीस करे तिसु हलति पलति मुहु कारा ॥२॥
Anyone who tries to compete with them is a fool; his face shall be blackened here and hereafter. ||2||
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੇ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
Sae Bhagath Sae Saevakaa Jinaa Har Naam Piaaraa ||
से भगत से सेवका जिना हरि नामु पिआरा ॥
They alone are devotees, and they alone are selfless servants, who love the Lord's Name.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੈ ਪਵੈ ਛਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
Thin Kee Saevaa Thae Har Paaeeai Sir Nindhak Kai Pavai Shhaaraa ||3||
तिन की सेवा ते हरि पाईऐ सिरि निंदक कै पवै छारा ॥३॥
By their selfless service, they find the Lord, while ashes fall on the heads of the slanderers. ||3||
ਜਿਸੁ ਘਰਿ ਵਿਰਤੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਗਤ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਛਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Jis Ghar Virathee Soee Jaanai Jagath Gur Naanak Pooshh Karahu Beechaaraa ||
जिसु घरि विरती सोई जाणै जगत गुर नानक पूछि करहु बीचारा ॥
He alone knows this, who experiences it within the home of his own self. Ask Guru Nanak, the Guru of the world, and reflect upon it.
ਚਹੁ ਪੀੜੀ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੯॥
Chahu Peerree Aadh Jugaadh Bakheelee Kinai N Paaeiou Har Saevak Bhaae Nisathaaraa ||4||2||9||
चहु पीड़ी आदि जुगादि बखीली किनै न पाइओ हरि सेवक भाइ निसतारा ॥४॥२॥९॥
Throughout the four generations of the Gurus, from the beginning of time and throughout the ages, no one has ever found the Lord by back-biting and undermining. Only by serving the Lord with love, is one emancipated. ||4||2||9||

जिथै हरि आराधीऐ तिथै हरि मितु सहाई ॥
Wherever the Lord is worshipped in adoration, there the Lord becomes one's friend and helper.
