जनम जनम के किलबिख दुख काटे आपे मेलि मिलाई ॥ रहाउ ॥
The sins and sorrows of countless lifetimes are eradicated; the Lord Himself unites them in His Union. ||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਭਾਈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾ ਸੈਂਸਾਰਾ ॥
Eihu Kuttanb Sabh Jeea Kae Bandhhan Bhaaee Bharam Bhulaa Sainasaaraa ||
इहु कुट्मबु सभु जीअ के बंधन भाई भरमि भुला सैंसारा ॥
All of these relatives are like chains upon the soul, O Siblings of Destiny; the world is deluded by doubt.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੂਟਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
Bin Gur Bandhhan Ttoottehi Naahee Guramukh Mokh Dhuaaraa ||
बिनु गुर बंधन टूटहि नाही गुरमुखि मोख दुआरा ॥
Without the Guru, the chains cannot be broken; the Gurmukhs find the door of salvation.
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
Karam Karehi Gur Sabadh N Pashhaanehi Mar Janamehi Vaaro Vaaraa ||2||
करम करहि गुर सबदु न पछाणहि मरि जनमहि वारो वारा ॥२॥
One who performs rituals without realizing the Word of the Guru's Shabad, shall die and be reborn, again and again. ||2||
ਹਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਗੁ ਪਲਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੇਰਾ ॥
Ho Maeraa Jag Palach Rehiaa Bhaaee Koe N Kis Hee Kaeraa ||
हउ मेरा जगु पलचि रहिआ भाई कोइ न किस ही केरा ॥
The world is entangled in egotism and possessiveness, O Siblings of Destiny, but no one belongs to anyone else.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥
Guramukh Mehal Paaein Gun Gaavan Nij Ghar Hoe Basaeraa ||
गुरमुखि महलु पाइनि गुण गावनि निज घरि होइ बसेरा ॥
The Gurmukhs attain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, singing the Glories of the Lord; they dwell in the home of their own inner being.
ਐਥੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
Aithhai Boojhai S Aap Pashhaanai Har Prabh Hai This Kaeraa ||3||
ऐथै बूझै सु आपु पछाणै हरि प्रभु है तिसु केरा ॥३॥
One who understands here, realizes himself; the Lord God belongs to him. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Sathiguroo Sadhaa Dhaeiaal Hai Bhaaee Vin Bhaagaa Kiaa Paaeeai ||
सतिगुरू सदा दइआलु है भाई विणु भागा किआ पाईऐ ॥
The True Guru is forever merciful, O Siblings of Destiny; without good destiny, what can anyone obtain?
ਏਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਜੇਹਾ ਭਾਉ ਤੇਹਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Eaek Nadhar Kar Vaekhai Sabh Oopar Jaehaa Bhaao Thaehaa Fal Paaeeai ||
एक नदरि करि वेखै सभ ऊपरि जेहा भाउ तेहा फलु पाईऐ ॥
He looks alike upon all with His Glance of Grace, but people receive the fruits of their rewards according to their love for the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੬॥
Naanak Naam Vasai Man Anthar Vichahu Aap Gavaaeeai ||4||6||
नानक नामु वसै मन अंतरि विचहु आपु गवाईऐ ॥४॥६॥
O Nanak, when the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell within the mind, then self-conceit is eradicated from within. ||4||6||

सची भगति सतिगुर ते होवै सची हिरदै बाणी ॥
True devotional worship is obtained only through the True Guru, when the True Word of His Bani is in the heart.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
Sathigur Saevae Sadhaa Sukh Paaeae Houmai Sabadh Samaanee ||
सतिगुरु सेवे सदा सुखु पाए हउमै सबदि समाणी ॥
Serving the True Guru, eternal peace is obtained; egotism is obliterated through the Word of the Shabad.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਹੋਰ ਭੂਲੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਆਣੀ ॥
Bin Gur Saachae Bhagath N Hovee Hor Bhoolee Firai Eiaanee ||
बिनु गुर साचे भगति न होवी होर भूली फिरै इआणी ॥
Without the Guru, there is no true devotion; otherwise, people wander around, deluded by ignorance.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
Manamukh Firehi Sadhaa Dhukh Paavehi Ddoob Mueae Vin Paanee ||1||
मनमुखि फिरहि सदा दुखु पावहि डूबि मुए विणु पाणी ॥१॥
The self-willed manmukhs wander around, suffering in constant pain; they drown and die, even without water. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
Bhaaee Rae Sadhaa Rehahu Saranaaee ||
भाई रे सदा रहहु सरणाई ॥
O Siblings of Destiny, remain forever in the Lord's Sanctuary, under His Protection.
ਆਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Poorae Gur Thae Aap Pashhaathaa Sabadh Sachai Veechaaraa ||
पूरे गुर ते आपु पछाता सबदि सचै वीचारा ॥
Through the Perfect Guru, one comes to understand himself, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸਦ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
Hiradhai Jagajeevan Sadh Vasiaa Thaj Kaam Krodhh Ahankaaraa ||
हिरदै जगजीवनु सद वसिआ तजि कामु क्रोधु अहंकारा ॥
The Lord, the Life of the world, ever abides in his heart, and he renounces sexual desire, anger and egotism.
ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Sadhaa Hajoor Raviaa Sabh Thaaee Hiradhai Naam Apaaraa ||
सदा हजूरि रविआ सभ ठाई हिरदै नामु अपारा ॥
The Lord is ever-present, permeating and pervading all places; the Name of the Infinite Lord is enshrined within the heart.
ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀ ਨਾਉ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥
Jug Jug Baanee Sabadh Pashhaanee Naao Meethaa Manehi Piaaraa ||2||
जुगि जुगि बाणी सबदि पछाणी नाउ मीठा मनहि पिआरा ॥२॥
Throughout the ages, through the Word of His Bani, His Shabad is realized, and the Name becomes so sweet and beloved to the mind. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवि जिनि नामु पछाता सफल जनमु जगि आइआ ॥
Serving the Guru, one realizes the Naam, the Name of the Lord; fruitful is his life, and his coming into the world.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣੀ ਅਘਾਇਆ ॥
Har Ras Chaakh Sadhaa Man Thripathiaa Gun Gaavai Gunee Aghaaeiaa ||
हरि रसु चाखि सदा मनु त्रिपतिआ गुण गावै गुणी अघाइआ ॥
Tasting the sublime elixir of the Lord, his mind is satisfied and satiated forever; singing the Glories of the Glorious Lord, he is fulfilled and satisfied.
ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥
Kamal Pragaas Sadhaa Rang Raathaa Anehadh Sabadh Vajaaeiaa ||
कमलु प्रगासि सदा रंगि राता अनहद सबदु वजाइआ ॥
The lotus of his heart blossoms forth, he is ever imbued with the Lord's Love, and the unstruck melody of the Shabad resounds within him.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
Than Man Niramal Niramal Baanee Sachae Sach Samaaeiaa ||3||
तनु मनु निरमलु निरमल बाणी सचे सचि समाइआ ॥३॥
His body and mind become immaculately pure; his speech becomes immaculate as well, and he merges in the Truest of the True. ||3||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
Raam Naam Kee Gath Koe N Boojhai Guramath Ridhai Samaaee ||
राम नाम की गति कोइ न बूझै गुरमति रिदै समाई ॥
No one knows the state of the Lord's Name; through the Guru's Teachings, it comes to abide in the heart.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਮਗੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਈ ॥
Guramukh Hovai S Mag Pashhaanai Har Ras Rasan Rasaaee ||
गुरमुखि होवै सु मगु पछाणै हरि रसि रसन रसाई ॥
One who becomes Gurmukh, understands the Path; his tongue savors the sublime essence of the Lord's Nectar.
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
Jap Thap Sanjam Sabh Gur Thae Hovai Hiradhai Naam Vasaaee ||
जपु तपु संजमु सभु गुर ते होवै हिरदै नामु वसाई ॥
Meditation, austere self-discipline and self-restraint are all obtained from the Guru; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to abide within the heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੭॥
Naanak Naam Samaalehi Sae Jan Sohan Dhar Saachai Path Paaee ||4||7||
नानक नामु समालहि से जन सोहनि दरि साचै पति पाई ॥४॥७॥
O Nanak, those humble beings who praise the Naam are beautiful; they are honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||4||7||

Sathigur Miliai Oulattee Bhee Bhaaee Jeevath Marai Thaa Boojh Paae ||
सतिगुर मिलिऐ उलटी भई भाई जीवत मरै ता बूझ पाइ ॥
Meeting the True Guru, one turns away from the world, O Siblings of Destiny; when he remains dead while yet alive, he obtains true understanding.
ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
So Guroo So Sikh Hai Bhaaee Jis Jothee Joth Milaae ||1||
सो गुरू सो सिखु है भाई जिसु जोती जोति मिलाइ ॥१॥
He alone is the Guru, and he alone is a Sikh, O Siblings of Destiny, whose light merges in the Light. ||1||

मन रे हरि हरि सेती लिव लाइ ॥
O my mind, be lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਥਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Man Har Jap Meethaa Laagai Bhaaee Guramukh Paaeae Har Thhaae || Rehaao ||
मन हरि जपि मीठा लागै भाई गुरमुखि पाए हरि थाइ ॥ रहाउ ॥
Chanting the Name of the Lord, it seems so sweet to the mind, O Siblings of Destiny; the Gurmukhs obtain a place in the Court of the Lord. ||Pause||
