बाझु गुरू गुबारा ॥
Without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
Mil Sathigur Nisathaaraa ||2||
मिलि सतिगुर निसतारा ॥२॥
Meeting with the True Guru, one is emancipated. ||2||
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਣੇ ॥
Ho Ho Karam Kamaanae ||
हउ हउ करम कमाणे ॥
All the deeds done in egotism,
ਤੇ ਤੇ ਬੰਧ ਗਲਾਣੇ ॥
Thae Thae Bandhh Galaanae ||
ते ते बंध गलाणे ॥
Are just chains around the neck.
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
Maeree Maeree Dhhaaree ||
मेरी मेरी धारी ॥
Harboring self-conceit and self-interest
ਓਹਾ ਪੈਰਿ ਲੋਹਾਰੀ ॥
Ouhaa Pair Lohaaree ||
ओहा पैरि लोहारी ॥
Is just like placing chains around one's ankles.
ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
So Gur Mil Eaek Pashhaanai ||
सो गुर मिलि एकु पछाणै ॥
He alone meets with the Guru, and realizes the One Lord,
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥਾਣੈ ॥੩॥
Jis Hovai Bhaag Mathhaanai ||3||
जिसु होवै भागु मथाणै ॥३॥
Who has such destiny written on his forehead. ||3||
ਸੋ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
So Miliaa J Har Man Bhaaeiaa ||
सो मिलिआ जि हरि मनि भाइआ ॥
He alone meets the Lord, who is pleasing to His Mind.
ਸੋ ਭੂਲਾ ਜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
So Bhoolaa J Prabhoo Bhulaaeiaa ||
सो भूला जि प्रभू भुलाइआ ॥
He alone is deluded, who is deluded by God.
ਨਹ ਆਪਹੁ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
Neh Aapahu Moorakh Giaanee ||
नह आपहु मूरखु गिआनी ॥
No one, by himself, is ignorant or wise.
ਜਿ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਨੀ ॥
J Karaavai S Naam Vakhaanee ||
जि करावै सु नामु वखानी ॥
He alone chants the Naam, whom the Lord inspires to do so.
ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
Thaeraa Anth N Paaraavaaraa ||
तेरा अंतु न पारावारा ॥
You have no end or limitation.

मोहनी मोहि लीए त्रै गुनीआ ॥
Maya, the enticer, has enticed the world of the three gunas, the three qualities.
ਲੋਭਿ ਵਿਆਪੀ ਝੂਠੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ॥
Lobh Viaapee Jhoothee Dhuneeaa ||
लोभि विआपी झूठी दुनीआ ॥
The false world is engrossed in greed.
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਚੀ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਸਗਲ ਲੇ ਛਲੀਆ ॥੧॥
Maeree Maeree Kar Kai Sanchee Anth Kee Baar Sagal Lae Shhaleeaa ||1||
मेरी मेरी करि कै संची अंत की बार सगल ले छलीआ ॥१॥
Crying out, ""Mine, mine!"" they collect possessions, but in the end, they are all deceived. ||1||
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਦਇਅਲੀਆ ॥
Nirabho Nirankaar Dhaeialeeaa ||
निरभउ निरंकारु दइअलीआ ॥
The Lord is fearless, formless and merciful.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਲੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

He is the Cherisher of all beings and creatures. ||1||Pause||
ਏਕੈ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਾਡੀ ਗਡਹੈ ॥
Eaekai Sram Kar Gaaddee Gaddehai ||
एकै स्रमु करि गाडी गडहै ॥
Some collect wealth, and bury it in the ground.
ਏਕਹਿ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਦਾਮੁ ਨ ਛਡਹੈ ॥
Eaekehi Supanai Dhaam N Shhaddehai ||
एकहि सुपनै दामु न छडहै ॥
Some cannot abandon wealth, even in their dreams.
ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਇ ਕਰੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਥੈਲੀ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚੰਚਲਿ ਚਲੀਆ ॥੨॥
Raaj Kamaae Karee Jin Thhailee Thaa Kai Sang N Chanchal Chaleeaa ||2||
राजु कमाइ करी जिनि थैली ता कै संगि न चंचलि चलीआ ॥२॥
The king exercises his power, and fills his money-bags, but this fickle companion will not go along with him. ||2||
ਏਕਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਪਿੰਡ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
Eaekehi Praan Pindd Thae Piaaree ||
एकहि प्राण पिंड ते पिआरी ॥
Some love this wealth even more than their body and breath of life.
ਏਕ ਸੰਚੀ ਤਜਿ ਬਾਪ ਮਹਤਾਰੀ ॥
Eaek Sanchee Thaj Baap Mehathaaree ||
एक संची तजि बाप महतारी ॥
Some collect it, forsaking their fathers and mothers.
ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਤੇ ਗੁਹਜੀ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਖਲੀਆ ॥੩॥
Suth Meeth Bhraath Thae Guhajee Thaa Kai Nikatt N Hoee Khaleeaa ||3||
सुत मीत भ्रात ते गुहजी ता कै निकटि न होई खलीआ ॥३॥
Some hide it from their children, friends and siblings, but it will not remain with them. ||3||
ਹੋਇ ਅਉਧੂਤ ਬੈਠੇ ਲਾਇ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
Hoe Aoudhhooth Baithae Laae Thaaree ||
होइ अउधूत बैठे लाइ तारी ॥
Some become hermits, and sit in meditative trances.
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
Jogee Jathee Panddith Beechaaree ||
जोगी जती पंडित बीचारी ॥
Some are Yogis, celibates, religious scholars and thinkers.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਸਤੇ ਊਠਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਪਲੀਆ ॥੪॥
Grihi Marree Masaanee Ban Mehi Basathae Ooth Thinaa Kai Laagee Paleeaa ||4||
ग्रिहि मड़ी मसाणी बन महि बसते ऊठि तिना कै लागी पलीआ ॥४॥
Some dwell in homes, graveyards, cremation grounds and forests; but Maya still clings to them there. ||4||
ਕਾਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ॥
Kaattae Bandhhan Thaakur Jaa Kae ||
काटे बंधन ठाकुरि जा के ॥
When the Lord and Master releases one from his bonds,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸਿਓ ਜੀਅ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥
Har Har Naam Basiou Jeea Thaa Kai ||
हरि हरि नामु बसिओ जीअ ता कै ॥
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, comes to dwell in his soul.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭਏ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਲੀਆ ॥੫॥੨॥੧੮॥
Saadhhasang Bheae Jan Mukathae Gath Paaee Naanak Nadhar Nihaleeaa ||5||2||18||
साधसंगि भए जन मुकते गति पाई नानक नदरि निहलीआ ॥५॥२॥१८॥
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, His humble servants are liberated; O Nanak, they are redeemed and enraptured by the Lord's Glance of Grace. ||5||2||18||

ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸੋਊ ॥

सिमरहु एकु निरंजन सोऊ ॥
Meditate in remembrance on the One Immaculate Lord.
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
Jaa Thae Birathhaa Jaath N Kooo ||
जा ते बिरथा जात न कोऊ ॥
No one is turned away from Him empty-handed.
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਿਆ ॥
Maath Garabh Mehi Jin Prathipaariaa ||
मात गरभ महि जिनि प्रतिपारिआ ॥
He cherished and preserved you in your mother's womb;
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
Jeeo Pindd Dhae Saaj Savaariaa ||
जीउ पिंडु दे साजि सवारिआ ॥
He blessed you with body and soul, and embellished you.
ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਜਪੀਐ ॥
Soee Bidhhaathaa Khin Khin Japeeai ||
सोई बिधाता खिनु खिनु जपीऐ ॥
Each and every instant, meditate on that Creator Lord.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਸਭਿ ਢਕੀਐ ॥
Jis Simarath Avagun Sabh Dtakeeai ||
जिसु सिमरत अवगुण सभि ढकीऐ ॥
Meditating in remembrance on Him, all faults and mistakes are covered.
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਉਰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰਹੁ ॥
Charan Kamal Our Anthar Dhhaarahu ||
चरण कमल उर अंतरि धारहु ॥
Enshrine the Lord's lotus feet deep within the nucleus of your self.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਨ ਤੇ ਜੀਉ ਉਧਾਰਹੁ ॥
Bikhiaa Ban Thae Jeeo Oudhhaarahu ||
बिखिआ बन ते जीउ उधारहु ॥
Save your soul from the waters of corruption.
ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਟਾ ॥
Karan Palaah Mittehi Bilalaattaa ||
करण पलाह मिटहि बिललाटा ॥
Your cries and shrieks shall be ended;
ਜਪਿ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਫਾਟਾ ॥
Jap Govidh Bharam Bho Faattaa ||
जपि गोविद भरमु भउ फाटा ॥
Meditating on the Lord of the Universe, your doubts and fears shall be dispelled.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
Saadhhasang Viralaa Ko Paaeae ||
साधसंगि विरला को पाए ॥
Rare is that being, who finds the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
Naanak Thaa Kai Bal Bal Jaaeae ||1||
नानकु ता कै बलि बलि जाए ॥१॥
Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to Him. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥
Raam Naam Man Than Aadhhaaraa ||
राम नामु मनि तनि आधारा ॥
The Lord's Name is the support of my mind and body.
ਜੋ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
Mithhiaa Vasath Sath Kar Maanee ||
मिथिआ वसतु सति करि मानी ॥
He believes that the false thing is true.
ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ਸਠ ਮੂੜ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
Hith Laaeiou Sath Moorr Agiaanee ||
हितु लाइओ सठ मूड़ अगिआनी ॥
The ignorant fool falls in love with it.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਦ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
Kaam Krodhh Lobh Madh Maathaa ||
काम क्रोध लोभ मद माता ॥
He is intoxicated with the wine of sexual desire, anger and greed;
ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਤਾ ॥
Kouddee Badhalai Janam Gavaathaa ||
कउडी बदलै जनमु गवाता ॥
He loses this human life in exchance for a mere shell.
ਅਪਨਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਰਾਇਐ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Apanaa Shhodd Paraaeiai Raathaa ||
अपना छोडि पराइऐ राता ॥
He abandons his own, and loves that of others.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Maaeiaa Madh Man Than Sang Jaathaa ||
माइआ मद मन तन संगि जाता ॥
His mind and body are permeated with the intoxication of Maya.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਤ ਕਲੋਲਾ ॥
Thrisan N Boojhai Karath Kalolaa ||
त्रिसन न बूझै करत कलोला ॥
His thirsty desires are not quenched, although he indulges in pleasures.
ਊਣੀ ਆਸ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਬੋਲਾ ॥
Oonee Aas Mithhiaa Sabh Bolaa ||
ऊणी आस मिथिआ सभि बोला ॥
His hopes are not fulfilled, and all his words are false.
ਆਵਤ ਇਕੇਲਾ ਜਾਤ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥
Aavath Eikaelaa Jaath Eikaelaa ||
आवत इकेला जात इकेला ॥
He comes alone, and he goes alone.
