Fifth Mehl:
ਵਿਣੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਦੁਖਾ ਕੈ ਦੁਖ ॥
Vin Thudhh Hor J Manganaa Sir Dhukhaa Kai Dhukh ||
विणु तुधु होरु जि मंगणा सिरि दुखा कै दुख ॥
To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries.
ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ॥
Dhaehi Naam Santhokheeaa Outharai Man Kee Bhukh ||
देहि नामु संतोखीआ उतरै मन की भुख ॥
Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied.
ਗੁਰਿ ਵਣੁ ਤਿਣੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਨੁਖ ॥੨॥
Gur Van Thin Hariaa Keethiaa Naanak Kiaa Manukh ||2||
गुरि वणु तिणु हरिआ कीतिआ नानक किआ मनुख ॥२॥
The Guru has made the woods and meadows green again. O Nanak, is it any wonder that He blesses human beings as well? ||2||

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥
So Aisaa Dhaathaar Manahu N Veesarai ||
सो ऐसा दातारु मनहु न वीसरै ॥
Such is that Great Giver; may I never forget Him from my mind.
ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾ ਸਰੈ ॥
Gharree N Muhath Chasaa This Bin Naa Sarai ||
घड़ी न मुहतु चसा तिसु बिनु ना सरै ॥
I cannot survive without Him, for an instant, for a moment, for a second.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਲੁਕਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
Anthar Baahar Sang Kiaa Ko Luk Karai ||
अंतरि बाहरि संगि किआ को लुकि करै ॥
Inwardly and outwardly, He is with us; how can we hide anything from Him?
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥
Jis Path Rakhai Aap So Bhavajal Tharai ||
जिसु पति रखै आपि सो भवजलु तरै ॥
One whose honor He Himself has preserved, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
Bhagath Giaanee Thapaa Jis Kirapaa Karai ||
भगतु गिआनी तपा जिसु किरपा करै ॥
He alone is a devotee, a spiritual teacher, and a disciplined pratictioner of meditation, whom the Lord has so blessed.
ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਲੁ ਧਰੈ ॥
So Pooraa Paradhhaan Jis No Bal Dhharai ||
सो पूरा परधानु जिस नो बलु धरै ॥
He alone is perfect and renowned as supreme, whom the Lord has blessed with His power.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ॥
Jisehi Jaraaeae Aap Soee Ajar Jarai ||
जिसहि जराए आपि सोई अजरु जरै ॥
He alone endures the unendurable, whom the Lord inspires to endure it.
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਧਰੈ ॥੩॥
This Hee Miliaa Sach Manthra Gur Man Dhharai ||3||
तिस ही मिलिआ सचु मंत्रु गुर मनि धरै ॥३॥
And he alone meets the True Lord, within whose mind the Guru's Mantra is implanted. ||3||

सलोकु मः ५ ॥
Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਰੰਗੜੇ ਆਲਾਪਤ ਸਭ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
Dhhann S Raag Surangarrae Aalaapath Sabh Thikh Jaae ||
धंनु सु राग सुरंगड़े आलापत सभ तिख जाइ ॥
Blessed are those beautiful Ragas which, when chanted, quench all thirst.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਜੰਤ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪਦੇ ਨਾਉ ॥
Dhhann S Janth Suhaavarrae Jo Guramukh Japadhae Naao ||
धंनु सु जंत सुहावड़े जो गुरमुखि जपदे नाउ ॥
Blessed are those beautiful people who, as Gurmukh, chant the Name of the Lord.
ਜਿਨੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
Jinee Eik Man Eik Araadhhiaa Thin Sadh Balihaarai Jaao ||
जिनी इक मनि इकु अराधिआ तिन सद बलिहारै जाउ ॥
I am a sacrifice to those who single-mindedly worship and adore the One Lord.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਹਮ ਬਾਛਦੇ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
Thin Kee Dhhoorr Ham Baashhadhae Karamee Palai Paae ||
तिन की धूड़ि हम बाछदे करमी पलै पाइ ॥
I yearn for the dust of their feet; by His Grace, it is obtained.
ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
Jo Rathae Rang Govidh Kai Ho Thin Balihaarai Jaao ||
जो रते रंगि गोविद कै हउ तिन बलिहारै जाउ ॥
I am a sacrifice to those who are imbued with love for the Lord of the Universe.
ਆਖਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਰਾਇ ॥
Aakhaa Birathhaa Jeea Kee Har Sajan Maelahu Raae ||
आखा बिरथा जीअ की हरि सजणु मेलहु राइ ॥
I tell them the state of my soul, and pray that I may be united with the Sovereign Lord King, my Friend.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
Gur Poorai Maelaaeiaa Janam Maran Dhukh Jaae ||
गुरि पूरै मेलाइआ जनम मरण दुखु जाइ ॥
The Perfect Guru has united me with Him, and the pains of birth and death have departed.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Jan Naanak Paaeiaa Agam Roop Anath N Kaahoo Jaae ||1||
जन नानक पाइआ अगम रूपु अनत न काहू जाइ ॥१॥
Servant Nanak has found the inaccessible, infinitely beautiful Lord, and he will not go anywhere else. ||1||

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਘੜੀ ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਪਲੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
Dhhann S Vaelaa Gharree Dhhann Dhhan Moorath Pal Saar ||
धंनु सु वेला घड़ी धंनु धनु मूरतु पलु सारु ॥
Blessed is that time, blessed is that hour, blessed is that second, excellent is that instant;
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੜਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਾਰੁ ॥
Dhhann S Dhinas Sanjogarraa Jith Ddithaa Gur Dharasaar ||
धंनु सु दिनसु संजोगड़ा जितु डिठा गुर दरसारु ॥
Blessed is that day,and that opportunity, when I gazed upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
Man Keeaa Eishhaa Pooreeaa Har Paaeiaa Agam Apaar ||
मन कीआ इछा पूरीआ हरि पाइआ अगम अपारु ॥
The mind's desires are fulfilled, when the inaccessible, unfathomable Lord is obtained.
ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟਾ ਮੋਹੜਾ ਇਕੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
Houmai Thuttaa Moharraa Eik Sach Naam Aadhhaar ||
हउमै तुटा मोहड़ा इकु सचु नामु आधारु ॥
Egotism and emotional attachment are eradicated, and one leans only on the Support of the True Name.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲਗਾ ਸੇਵ ਹਰਿ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
Jan Naanak Lagaa Saev Har Oudhhariaa Sagal Sansaar ||2||
जनु नानकु लगा सेव हरि उधरिआ सगल संसारु ॥२॥
O servant Nanak, one who is committed to the Lord's service - the whole world is saved along with him. ||2||

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ॥
Sifath Salaahan Bhagath Viralae Dhitheean ||
सिफति सलाहणु भगति विरले दितीअनु ॥
How rare are those who are blessed to praise the Lord, in devotional worship.
ਸਉਪੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਲੀਤੀਅਨੁ ॥
Soupae Jis Bhanddaar Fir Pushh N Leetheean ||
सउपे जिसु भंडार फिरि पुछ न लीतीअनु ॥
Those who are blessed with the Lord's treasures are not called to give their account again.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਿਆ ॥
Jis No Lagaa Rang Sae Rang Rathiaa ||
जिस नो लगा रंगु से रंगि रतिआ ॥
Those who are imbued with His Love are absorbed in ecstasy.
ਓਨਾ ਇਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਇਕਾ ਉਨ ਭਤਿਆ ॥
Ounaa Eiko Naam Adhhaar Eikaa Oun Bhathiaa ||
ओना इको नामु अधारु इका उन भतिआ ॥
They take the Support of the One Name; the One Name is their only food.
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੁੰਚੈ ਭੋਗਈ ॥
Ounaa Pishhai Jag Bhunchai Bhogee ||
ओना पिछै जगु भुंचै भोगई ॥
For their sake, the world eats and enjoys.
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਬੁ ਓਨਾਹਾ ਜੋਗਈ ॥
Ounaa Piaaraa Rab Ounaahaa Jogee ||
ओना पिआरा रबु ओनाहा जोगई ॥
Their Beloved Lord belongs to them alone.
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
Jis Miliaa Gur Aae Thin Prabh Jaaniaa ||
जिसु मिलिआ गुरु आइ तिनि प्रभु जाणिआ ॥
The Guru comes and meets them; they alone know God.
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਜਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
Ho Balihaaree Thin J Khasamai Bhaaniaa ||4||
हउ बलिहारी तिन जि खसमै भाणिआ ॥४॥
I am a sacrifice to those who are pleasing to their Lord and Master. ||4||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
Har Eikasai Naal Mai Dhosathee Har Eikasai Naal Mai Rang ||
हरि इकसै नालि मै दोसती हरि इकसै नालि मै रंगु ॥
My friendship is with the One Lord alone; I am in love with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਜਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
Har Eiko Maeraa Sajano Har Eikasai Naal Mai Sang ||
हरि इको मेरा सजणो हरि इकसै नालि मै संगु ॥
The Lord is my only friend; my companionship is with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਗੋਸਟੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
Har Eikasai Naal Mai Gosattae Muhu Mailaa Karai N Bhang ||
हरि इकसै नालि मै गोसटे मुहु मैला करै न भंगु ॥
My conversation is with the One Lord alone; He never frowns, or turns His face away.
ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਮੋੜੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
Jaanai Birathhaa Jeea Kee Kadhae N Morrai Rang ||
जाणै बिरथा जीअ की कदे न मोड़ै रंगु ॥
He alone knows the state of my soul; He never ignores my love.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਸਲਤੀ ਭੰਨਣ ਘੜਨ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
Har Eiko Maeraa Masalathee Bhannan Gharran Samarathh ||
हरि इको मेरा मसलती भंनण घड़न समरथु ॥
He is my only counselor, all-powerful to destroy and create.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਿਆ ਜਗ ਹਥੁ ॥
Har Eiko Maeraa Dhaathaar Hai Sir Dhaathiaa Jag Hathh ||
हरि इको मेरा दातारु है सिरि दातिआ जग हथु ॥
The Lord is my only Giver. He places His hand upon the heads of the generous in the world.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
Har Eikasai Dhee Mai Ttaek Hai Jo Sir Sabhanaa Samarathh ||
हरि इकसै दी मै टेक है जो सिरि सभना समरथु ॥
I take the Support of the One Lord alone; He is all-powerful, over the heads of all.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੁ ॥
Sathigur Santh Milaaeiaa Masathak Dhhar Kai Hathh ||
सतिगुरि संतु मिलाइआ मसतकि धरि कै हथु ॥
The Saint, the True Guru, has united me with the Lord. He placed His hand on my forehead.
