ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਆਨੇਰੁ ਬਿਨਾਸਣਿ ॥
Guramathee Ghatt Chaananaa Aanaer Binaasan ||
गुरमती घटि चानणा आनेरु बिनासणि ॥
Following the Guru's Teachings, one's heart is illumined, and the darkness is dispelled.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀਅਨੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਵਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਣਿ ॥
Hukamae Hee Sabh Saajeean Raviaa Sabh Van Thrin ||
हुकमे ही सभ साजीअनु रविआ सभ वणि त्रिणि ॥
By the Hukam of His Command, He creates everything; He pervades and permeates all the woods and meadows.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਣਿ ॥
Sabh Kishh Aapae Aap Hai Guramukh Sadhaa Har Bhan ||
सभु किछु आपे आपि है गुरमुखि सदा हरि भणि ॥
He Himself is everything; the Gurmukh constantly chants the Lord's Name.
ਸਬਦੇ ਹੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਸਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੫॥
Sabadhae Hee Sojhee Pee Sachai Aap Bujhaaee ||5||
सबदे ही सोझी पई सचै आपि बुझाई ॥५॥
Through the Shabad, understanding comes; the True Lord Himself inspires us to understand. ||5||

ਅਭਿਆਗਤ ਏਹਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਭਰਮੁ ॥
Abhiaagath Eaehi N Aakheean Jin Kae Chith Mehi Bharam ||
अभिआगत एहि न आखीअनि जिन के चित महि भरमु ॥
He is not called a renunciate, whose consciousness is filled with doubt.
ਤਿਸ ਦੈ ਦਿਤੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਧਰਮੁ ॥
This Dhai Dhithai Naanakaa Thaeho Jaehaa Dhharam ||
तिस दै दितै नानका तेहो जेहा धरमु ॥
Donations to him bring proportionate rewards.
ਅਭੈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਭੂਖਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Abhai Niranjan Param Padh Thaa Kaa Bhookhaa Hoe ||
अभै निरंजनु परम पदु ता का भूखा होइ ॥
He hungers for the supreme status of the Fearless, Immaculate Lord;
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

तिस का भोजनु नानका विरला पाए कोइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, how rare are those who offer him this food. ||1||

अभिआगत एहि न आखीअनि जि पर घरि भोजनु करेनि ॥
They are not called renunciates, who take food in the homes of others.
ਉਦਰੈ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਹਲੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
Oudharai Kaaran Aapanae Behalae Bhaekh Karaen ||
उदरै कारणि आपणे बहले भेख करेनि ॥
For the sake of their bellies, they wear various religious robes.
ਅਭਿਆਗਤ ਸੇਈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿ ਆਤਮ ਗਉਣੁ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥

अभिआगत सेई नानका जि आतम गउणु करेनि ॥
They alone are renunciates, O Nanak, who enter into their own souls.
ਭਾਲਿ ਲਹਨਿ ਸਹੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਰਹਣੁ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥੨॥

भालि लहनि सहु आपणा निज घरि रहणु करेनि ॥२॥
They seek and find their Husband Lord; they dwell within the home of their own inner self. ||2||

Anbar Dhharath Vishhorrian Vich Sachaa Asaraao ||
अ्मबरु धरति विछोड़िअनु विचि सचा असराउ ॥
They sky and the earth are separate, but the True Lord supports them from within.
ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਸਭੋ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
Ghar Dhar Sabho Sach Hai Jis Vich Sachaa Naao ||
घरु दरु सभो सचु है जिसु विचि सचा नाउ ॥
True are all those homes and gates, within which the True Name is enshrined.
ਸਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥
Sabh Sachaa Hukam Varathadhaa Guramukh Sach Samaao ||
सभु सचा हुकमु वरतदा गुरमुखि सचि समाउ ॥
The Hukam of the True Lord's Command is effective everywhere. The Gurmukh merges in the True Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਤਖਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਬਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ ॥
Sachaa Aap Thakhath Sachaa Behi Sachaa Karae Niaao ||
सचा आपि तखतु सचा बहि सचा करे निआउ ॥
He Himself is True, and True is His throne. Seated upon it, He administers true justice.
ਸਭੁ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਈ ॥੬॥
Sabh Sacho Sach Varathadhaa Guramukh Alakh Lakhaaee ||6||
सभु सचो सचु वरतदा गुरमुखि अलखु लखाई ॥६॥
The Truest of the True is all-pervading everywhere; the Gurmukh sees the unseen. ||6||

ਰੈਣਾਇਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਨੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਕੂੜੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Rainaaeir Maahi Ananth Hai Koorree Aavai Jaae ||
रैणाइर माहि अनंतु है कूड़ी आवै जाइ ॥
In the world-ocean, the Infinite Lord abides. The false come and go in reincarnation.
ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਆਪਣੈ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਲਹੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
Bhaanai Chalai Aapanai Bahuthee Lehai Sajaae ||
भाणै चलै आपणै बहुती लहै सजाइ ॥
One who walks according to his own will, suffers terrible punishment.
ਰੈਣਾਇਰ ਮਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

रैणाइर महि सभु किछु है करमी पलै पाइ ॥
All things are in the world-ocean, but they are obtained only by the karma of good actions.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਚਲੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
Naanak No Nidhh Paaeeai Jae Chalai Thisai Rajaae ||1||
नानक नउ निधि पाईऐ जे चलै तिसै रजाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, he alone obtains the nine treasures, who walks in the Will of the Lord. ||1||

ਸਹਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਨਮਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
Sehajae Sathigur N Saeviou Vich Houmai Janam Binaas ||
सहजे सतिगुरु न सेविओ विचि हउमै जनमि बिनासु ॥
One who intuitively serves the True Guru, loses his life in egotism.
ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨ ਚਖਿਓ ਕਮਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਇਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
Rasanaa Har Ras N Chakhiou Kamal N Hoeiou Paragaas ||
रसना हरि रसु न चखिओ कमलु न होइओ परगासु ॥
His tongue does not taste the sublime essence of the Lord, and his heart-lotus does not blossom forth.
ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਧੀ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੁਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥
Bikh Khaadhhee Manamukh Muaa Maaeiaa Mohi Vinaas ||
बिखु खाधी मनमुखु मुआ माइआ मोहि विणासु ॥
The self-willed manmukh eats poison and dies; he is ruined by love and attachment to Maya.
ਇਕਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
Eikas Har Kae Naam Vin Dhhrig Jeevan Dhhrig Vaas ||
इकसु हरि के नाम विणु ध्रिगु जीवणु ध्रिगु वासु ॥
Without the Name of the One Lord, his life is cursed, and his home is cursed as well.
ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ॥
Jaa Aapae Nadhar Karae Prabh Sachaa Thaa Hovai Dhaasan Dhaas ||
जा आपे नदरि करे प्रभु सचा ता होवै दासनि दासु ॥
When God Himself bestows His Glance of Grace, then one becomes the slave of His slaves.
ਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਪਾਸੁ ॥
Thaa Anadhin Saevaa Karae Sathiguroo Kee Kabehi N Shhoddai Paas ||
ता अनदिनु सेवा करे सतिगुरू की कबहि न छोडै पासु ॥
And then, night and day, he serves the True Guru, and never leaves His side.
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਤਿਉ ਵਿਚੇ ਗਿਰਹ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥
Jio Jal Mehi Kamal Alipatho Varathai Thio Vichae Gireh Oudhaas ||
जिउ जल महि कमलु अलिपतो वरतै तिउ विचे गिरह उदासु ॥
As the lotus flower floats unaffected in the water, so does he remain detached in his own household.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੨॥
Jan Naanak Karae Karaaeiaa Sabh Ko Jio Bhaavai Thiv Har Gunathaas ||2||
जन नानक करे कराइआ सभु को जिउ भावै तिव हरि गुणतासु ॥२॥
O servant Nanak, the Lord acts, and inspires everyone to act, according to the Pleasure of His Will. He is the treasure of virtue. ||2||

ਛਤੀਹ ਜੁਗ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਸਾ ਆਪੇ ਗਣਤ ਕੀਨੀ ॥
Shhatheeh Jug Gubaar Saa Aapae Ganath Keenee ||
छतीह जुग गुबारु सा आपे गणत कीनी ॥
For thirty-six ages, there was utter darkness. Then, the Lord revealed Himself.
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਤਿ ਦੀਨੀ ॥
Aapae Srisatt Sabh Saajeean Aap Math Dheenee ||
आपे स्रिसटि सभ साजीअनु आपि मति दीनी ॥
He Himself created the entire universe. He Himself blessed it with understanding.
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਾਜਿਅਨੁ ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਗਣਤ ਗਣੀਨੀ ॥
Simrith Saasath Saajian Paap Punn Ganath Ganeenee ||
सिम्रिति सासत साजिअनु पाप पुंन गणत गणीनी ॥
He created the Simritees and the Shaastras; He calculates the accounts of virtue and vice.
ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤੀਨੀ ॥
Jis Bujhaaeae So Bujhasee Sachai Sabadh Patheenee ||
जिसु बुझाए सो बुझसी सचै सबदि पतीनी ॥
He alone understands, whom the Lord inspires to understand and to be pleased with the True Word of the Shabad.
ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੭॥
Sabh Aapae Aap Varathadhaa Aapae Bakhas Milaaee ||7||
सभु आपे आपि वरतदा आपे बखसि मिलाई ॥७॥
He Himself is all-pervading; He Himself forgives, and unites with Himself. ||7||

इहु तनु सभो रतु है रतु बिनु तंनु न होइ ॥
This body is all blood; without blood, the body cannot exist.
ਜੋ ਸਹਿ ਰਤੇ ਆਪਣੈ ਤਿਨ ਤਨਿ ਲੋਭ ਰਤੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jo Sehi Rathae Aapanai Thin Than Lobh Rath N Hoe ||
जो सहि रते आपणै तिन तनि लोभ रतु न होइ ॥
Those who are attuned to their Lord - their bodies are not filled with the blood of greed.
ਭੈ ਪਇਐ ਤਨੁ ਖੀਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਲੋਭ ਰਤੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
Bhai Paeiai Than Kheen Hoe Lobh Rath Vichahu Jaae ||
भै पइऐ तनु खीणु होइ लोभ रतु विचहु जाइ ॥
In the Fear of God, the body becomes thin, and the blood of greed passes out of the body.
