Kaaeiaa Andhar Garr Kott Hai Sabh Dhisanthar Dhaesaa ||
काइआ अंदरि गड़ु कोटु है सभि दिसंतर देसा ॥
Deep within the body is the fortress of the Lord, and all lands and countries.
ਆਪੇ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈਅਨੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥
Aapae Thaarree Laaeean Sabh Mehi Paravaesaa ||
आपे ताड़ी लाईअनु सभ महि परवेसा ॥
He Himself sits in primal, profound Samaadhi; He Himself is all-pervading.
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੀਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਰਖੇਸਾ ॥
Aapae Srisatt Saajeean Aap Gupath Rakhaesaa ||
आपे स्रिसटि साजीअनु आपि गुपतु रखेसा ॥
He Himself created the Universe, and He Himself remains hidden within it.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਗਟੀਏਸਾ ॥
Gur Saevaa Thae Jaaniaa Sach Paragatteeeaesaa ||
गुर सेवा ते जाणिआ सचु परगटीएसा ॥
Serving the Guru, the Lord is known, and the Truth is revealed.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੬॥
Sabh Kishh Sacho Sach Hai Gur Sojhee Paaee ||16||
सभु किछु सचो सचु है गुरि सोझी पाई ॥१६॥
He is True, the Truest of the True; the Guru has imparted this understanding. ||16||

ਸਾਵਣੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਅਹਾੜੁ ਦਿਹੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਦੁਇ ਖੇਤ ॥
Saavan Raath Ahaarr Dhihu Kaam Krodhh Dhue Khaeth ||
सावणु राति अहाड़ु दिहु कामु क्रोधु दुइ खेत ॥
Night is the summer season, and day is the winter season; sexual desire and anger are the two fields planted.
ਲਬੁ ਵਤ੍ਰ ਦਰੋਗੁ ਬੀਉ ਹਾਲੀ ਰਾਹਕੁ ਹੇਤ ॥
Lab Vathr Dharog Beeo Haalee Raahak Haeth ||
लबु वत्र दरोगु बीउ हाली राहकु हेत ॥
Greed prepares the soil, and the seed of falsehood is planted; attachment and love are the farmer and hired hand.
ਹਲੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਣ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਖਟੇ ਖਾਇ ॥
Hal Beechaar Vikaar Man Hukamee Khattae Khaae ||
हलु बीचारु विकार मण हुकमी खटे खाइ ॥
Contemplation is the plow, and corruption is the harvest; this is what one earns and eats, according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖੈ ਮੰਗਿਐ ਅਉਤੁ ਜਣੇਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

नानक लेखै मंगिऐ अउतु जणेदा जाइ ॥१॥
O Nanak, when one is called to give his account, he will be barren and infertile. ||1||

ਭਉ ਭੁਇ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਬਲੇਦ ॥
Bho Bhue Pavith Paanee Sath Santhokh Balaedh ||
भउ भुइ पवितु पाणी सतु संतोखु बलेद ॥
Make the Fear of God the farm, purity the water, truth and contentment the cows and bulls,
ਹਲੁ ਹਲੇਮੀ ਹਾਲੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਚੇਤਾ ਵਤ੍ਰ ਵਖਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥
Hal Halaemee Haalee Chith Chaethaa Vathr Vakhath Sanjog ||
हलु हलेमी हाली चितु चेता वत्र वखत संजोगु ॥
Humility the plow, consciousness the plowman, remembrance the preparation of the soil, and union with the Lord the planting time.
ਨਾਉ ਬੀਜੁ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਬੋਹਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਦਰੋਗ ॥
Naao Beej Bakhasees Bohal Dhuneeaa Sagal Dharog ||
नाउ बीजु बखसीस बोहल दुनीआ सगल दरोग ॥
Let the Lord's Name be the seed, and His Forgiving Grace the harvest. Do this, and the whole world will seem false.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਵਿਜੋਗ ॥੨॥
Naanak Nadharee Karam Hoe Jaavehi Sagal Vijog ||2||
नानक नदरी करमु होइ जावहि सगल विजोग ॥२॥
O Nanak, if He bestows His Merciful Glance of Grace, then all your separation will be ended. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
Manamukh Mohu Gubaar Hai Dhoojai Bhaae Bolai ||
मनमुखि मोहु गुबारु है दूजै भाइ बोलै ॥
The self-willed manmukh is trapped in the darkness of emotional attachment; in the love of duality he speaks.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਿਰੋਲੈ ॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Sadhaa Dhukh Hai Nith Neer Virolai ||
दूजै भाइ सदा दुखु है नित नीरु विरोलै ॥
The love of duality brings pain forever; he churns the water endlessly.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢੋਲੈ ॥
Guramukh Naam Dhhiaaeeai Mathh Thath Kadtolai ||
गुरमुखि नामु धिआईऐ मथि ततु कढोलै ॥
The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he churns, and obtains the essence of reality.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਲਧਾ ਟੋਲੈ ॥
Anthar Paragaas Ghatt Chaananaa Har Ladhhaa Ttolai ||
अंतरि परगासु घटि चानणा हरि लधा टोलै ॥
The Divine Light illuminates his heart deep within; he seeks the Lord, and obtains Him.
ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੭॥
Aapae Bharam Bhulaaeidhaa Kishh Kehan N Jaaee ||17||
आपे भरमि भुलाइदा किछु कहणु न जाई ॥१७॥
He Himself deludes in doubt; no one can comment on this. ||17||

ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਹੇਇ ॥
Naanak Chinthaa Math Karahu Chinthaa This Hee Haee ||
नानक चिंता मति करहु चिंता तिस ही हेइ ॥
O Nanak, don't be anxious; the Lord will take care of you.
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਭਿ ਰੋਜੀ ਦੇਇ ॥
Jal Mehi Janth Oupaaeian Thinaa Bh Rojee Dhaee ||
जल महि जंत उपाइअनु तिना भि रोजी देइ ॥
He created the creatures in water, and He gives them their nourishment.
ਓਥੈ ਹਟੁ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਕਿਰਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Outhhai Hatt N Chalee Naa Ko Kiras Karaee ||
ओथै हटु न चलई ना को किरस करेइ ॥
There are no stores open there, and no one farms there.
ਸਉਦਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਲਏ ਨ ਦੇਇ ॥
Soudhaa Mool N Hovee Naa Ko Leae N Dhaee ||
सउदा मूलि न होवई ना को लए न देइ ॥
No business is ever transacted there, and no one buys or sells.
ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਹਾਰੁ ਜੀਅ ਖਾਣਾ ਏਹੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Jeeaa Kaa Aahaar Jeea Khaanaa Eaehu Karaee ||
जीआ का आहारु जीअ खाणा एहु करेइ ॥
Animals eat other animals; this is what the Lord has given them as food.
ਵਿਚਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਸਾਇਰਾ ਤਿਨਾ ਭਿ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Vich Oupaaeae Saaeiraa Thinaa Bh Saar Karaee ||
विचि उपाए साइरा तिना भि सार करेइ ॥
He created them in the oceans, and He provides for them as well.
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਤ ਕਰਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਹੇਇ ॥੧॥

नानक इहु जीउ मछुली झीवरु त्रिसना कालु ॥
O Nanak, this soul is the fish, and death is the hungry fisherman.
ਮਨੂਆ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਪੜੈ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਲੁ ॥
Manooaa Andhh N Chaethee Parrai Achinthaa Jaal ||
मनूआ अंधु न चेतई पड़ै अचिंता जालु ॥
The blind man does not even think of this. And suddenly, the net is cast.
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਬਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
Naanak Chith Achaeth Hai Chinthaa Badhhaa Jaae ||
नानक चितु अचेतु है चिंता बधा जाइ ॥
O Nanak, his consciousness is unconscious, and he departs, bound by anxiety.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
Nadhar Karae Jae Aapanee Thaa Aapae Leae Milaae ||2||
नदरि करे जे आपणी ता आपे लए मिलाइ ॥२॥
But if the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, then He unites the soul with Himself. ||2||

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਤਾ ॥
Sae Jan Saachae Sadhaa Sadhaa Jinee Har Ras Peethaa ||
से जन साचे सदा सदा जिनी हरि रसु पीता ॥
They are true, forever true, who drink in the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
Guramukh Sachaa Man Vasai Sach Soudhaa Keethaa ||
गुरमुखि सचा मनि वसै सचु सउदा कीता ॥
The True Lord abides in the mind of the Gurmukh; He strikes the true bargain.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਲੀਤਾ ॥
Sabh Kishh Ghar Hee Maahi Hai Vaddabhaagee Leethaa ||
सभु किछु घर ही माहि है वडभागी लीता ॥
Everything is in the home of the self within; only the very fortunate obtain it.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਰਿ ਗਈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਤਾ ॥
Anthar Thrisanaa Mar Gee Har Gun Gaaveethaa ||
अंतरि त्रिसना मरि गई हरि गुण गावीता ॥
The hunger within is conquered and overcome, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧੮॥
Aapae Mael Milaaeian Aapae Dhaee Bujhaaee ||18||
आपे मेलि मिलाइअनु आपे देइ बुझाई ॥१८॥
He Himself unites in His Union; He Himself blesses them with understanding. ||18||

ਵੇਲਿ ਪਿੰਞਾਇਆ ਕਤਿ ਵੁਣਾਇਆ ॥
Vael Pinnjaaeiaa Kath Vunaaeiaa ||
वेलि पिंञाइआ कति वुणाइआ ॥
The cotton is ginned, woven and spun;
ਕਟਿ ਕੁਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਖੁੰਬਿ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥
Katt Kutt Kar Khunb Charraaeiaa ||
कटि कुटि करि खु्मबि चड़ाइआ ॥
The cloth is laid out, washed and bleached white.
ਲੋਹਾ ਵਢੇ ਦਰਜੀ ਪਾੜੇ ਸੂਈ ਧਾਗਾ ਸੀਵੈ ॥
Lohaa Vadtae Dharajee Paarrae Sooee Dhhaagaa Seevai ||
लोहा वढे दरजी पाड़े सूई धागा सीवै ॥
The tailor cuts it with his scissors, and sews it with his thread.
ਇਉ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਟੀ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸੀਪੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵਤ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
Eio Path Paattee Sifathee Seepai Naanak Jeevath Jeevai ||
इउ पति पाटी सिफती सीपै नानक जीवत जीवै ॥
Thus, the torn and tattered honor is sewn up again, through the Lord's Praise, O Nanak, and one lives the true life.
ਹੋਇ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਕਪੜੁ ਪਾਟੈ ਸੂਈ ਧਾਗਾ ਗੰਢੈ ॥
Hoe Puraanaa Kaparr Paattai Sooee Dhhaagaa Gandtai ||
होइ पुराणा कपड़ु पाटै सूई धागा गंढै ॥
Becoming worn, the cloth is torn; with needle and thread it is sewn up again.
ਮਾਹੁ ਪਖੁ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੰਢੈ ॥
Maahu Pakh Kihu Chalai Naahee Gharree Muhath Kishh Handtai ||
माहु पखु किहु चलै नाही घड़ी मुहतु किछु हंढै ॥
It will not last for a month, or even a week. It barely lasts for an hour, or even a moment.
