ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
Jis Gur Parasaadhee Naam Adhhaar ||
जिसु गुर परसादी नामु अधारु ॥
One who takes the Support of the Naam, by Guru's Grace,
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਜਨੁ ਆਪਾਰੁ ॥੭॥
Kott Madhhae Ko Jan Aapaar ||7||
कोटि मधे को जनु आपारु ॥७॥
Is a rare person, one among millions, incomparable. ||7||
ਏਕੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਏਕੈ ॥
Eaek Buraa Bhalaa Sach Eaekai ||
एकु बुरा भला सचु एकै ॥
One is bad, and another good, but the One True Lord is contained in all.
ਬੂਝੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਟੇਕੈ ॥
Boojh Giaanee Sathagur Kee Ttaekai ||
बूझु गिआनी सतगुर की टेकै ॥
Understand this, O spiritual teacher, through the support of the True Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
Guramukh Viralee Eaeko Jaaniaa ||
गुरमुखि विरली एको जाणिआ ॥
Rare indeed is that Gurmukh, who realizes the One Lord.
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਣਿਆ ॥੮॥
Aavan Jaanaa Maett Samaaniaa ||8||
आवणु जाणा मेटि समाणिआ ॥८॥
His comings and goings cease, and he merges in the Lord. ||8||
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Jin Kai Hiradhai Eaekankaar ||
जिन कै हिरदै एकंकारु ॥
Those who have the One Universal Creator Lord within their hearts,
ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
Sarab Gunee Saachaa Beechaar ||
सरब गुणी साचा बीचारु ॥
Possess all virtues; they contemplate the True Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
Gur Kai Bhaanai Karam Kamaavai ||
गुर कै भाणै करम कमावै ॥
One who acts in harmony with the Guru's Will,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੯॥੪॥
Naanak Saachae Saach Samaavai ||9||4||
नानक साचे साचि समावै ॥९॥४॥
O Nanak, is absorbed in the Truest of the True. ||9||4||

हठु निग्रहु करि काइआ छीजै ॥
Practicing restraint by Hatha Yoga, the body wears away.
ਵਰਤੁ ਤਪਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
Varath Thapan Kar Man Nehee Bheejai ||
वरतु तपनु करि मनु नही भीजै ॥
The mind is not softened by fasting or austerities.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਪੂਜੈ ॥੧॥
Raam Naam Sar Avar N Poojai ||1||
राम नाम सरि अवरु न पूजै ॥१॥
Nothing else is equal to worship of the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੰਗੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
Gur Saev Manaa Har Jan Sang Keejai ||
गुरु सेवि मना हरि जन संगु कीजै ॥
Serve the Guru, O mind, and associate with the humble servants of the Lord.
ਜਮੁ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਡਸਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jam Jandhaar Johi Nehee Saakai Sarapan Ddas N Sakai Har Kaa Ras Peejai ||1|| Rehaao ||
जमु जंदारु जोहि नही साकै सरपनि डसि न सकै हरि का रसु पीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The tyrannical Messenger of Death cannot touch you, and the serpent of Maya cannot sting you, when you drink in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਵਾਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਜਗੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
Vaadh Parrai Raagee Jag Bheejai ||
वादु पड़ै रागी जगु भीजै ॥
The world reads the arguments, and is softened only by music.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥
Thrai Gun Bikhiaa Janam Mareejai ||
त्रै गुण बिखिआ जनमि मरीजै ॥
In the three modes and corruption, they are born and die.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਹੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
Raam Naam Bin Dhookh Seheejai ||2||
राम नाम बिनु दूखु सहीजै ॥२॥
Without the Lord's Name, they endure suffering and pain. ||2||
ਚਾੜਸਿ ਪਵਨੁ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
Chaarras Pavan Singhaasan Bheejai ||
चाड़सि पवनु सिंघासनु भीजै ॥
The Yogi draws the breath upwards, and opens the Tenth Gate.
ਨਿਉਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
Nioulee Karam Khatt Karam Kareejai ||
निउली करम खटु करम करीजै ॥
He practices inner cleansing and the six rituals of purification.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਸੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੩॥
Raam Naam Bin Birathhaa Saas Leejai ||3||
राम नाम बिनु बिरथा सासु लीजै ॥३॥
But without the Lord's Name, the breath he draws is useless. ||3||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੰਚ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਧੀਜੈ ॥
Anthar Panch Agan Kio Dhheeraj Dhheejai ||
अंतरि पंच अगनि किउ धीरजु धीजै ॥
The fire of the five passions burns within him; how can he be calm?
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚੋਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਸਾਦੁ ਲਹੀਜੈ ॥
Anthar Chor Kio Saadh Leheejai ||
अंतरि चोरु किउ सादु लहीजै ॥
The thief is within him; how can he taste the taste?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੜੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
Guramukh Hoe Kaaeiaa Garr Leejai ||4||
गुरमुखि होइ काइआ गड़ु लीजै ॥४॥
One who becomes Gurmukh conquers the body-fortress. ||4||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਤੀਰਥ ਭਰਮੀਜੈ ॥
Anthar Mail Theerathh Bharameejai ||
अंतरि मैलु तीरथ भरमीजै ॥
With filth within, he wanders around at places of pilgrimage.
ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਿਆ ਸੋਚ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
Man Nehee Soochaa Kiaa Soch Kareejai ||
मनु नही सूचा किआ सोच करीजै ॥
His mind is not pure, so what is the use of performing ritual cleansings?
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਦੋਸੁ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੫॥
Kirath Paeiaa Dhos Kaa Ko Dheejai ||5||
किरतु पइआ दोसु का कउ दीजै ॥५॥
He carries the karma of his own past actions; who else can he blame? ||5||
ਅੰਨੁ ਨ ਖਾਹਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
Ann N Khaahi Dhaehee Dhukh Dheejai ||
अंनु न खाहि देही दुखु दीजै ॥
He does not eat food; he tortures his body.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਥੀਜੈ ॥
Bin Gur Giaan Thripath Nehee Thheejai ||
बिनु गुर गिआन त्रिपति नही थीजै ॥
Without the Guru's wisdom, he is not satisfied.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥੬॥
Manamukh Janamai Janam Mareejai ||6||
मनमुखि जनमै जनमि मरीजै ॥६॥
The self-willed manmukh is born only to die, and be born again. ||6||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
Sathigur Pooshh Sangath Jan Keejai ||
सतिगुर पूछि संगति जन कीजै ॥
Go, and ask the True Guru, and associate with the Lord's humble servants.
ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਚੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੀਜੈ ॥
Man Har Raachai Nehee Janam Mareejai ||
मनु हरि राचै नही जनमि मरीजै ॥
Your mind shall merge into the Lord, and you shall not be reincarnated to die again.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
Raam Naam Bin Kiaa Karam Keejai ||7||
राम नाम बिनु किआ करमु कीजै ॥७॥
Without the Lord's Name, what can anyone do? ||7||
ਊਂਦਰ ਦੂੰਦਰ ਪਾਸਿ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥
Oonadhar Dhoondhar Paas Dhhareejai ||
ऊंदर दूंदर पासि धरीजै ॥
Silence the mouse scurrying around within you.
ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥
Dhhur Kee Saevaa Raam Raveejai ||
धुर की सेवा रामु रवीजै ॥
Serve the Primal Lord, by chanting the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੫॥
Naanak Naam Milai Kirapaa Prabh Keejai ||8||5||
नानक नामु मिलै किरपा प्रभ कीजै ॥८॥५॥
O Nanak, God blesses us with His Name, when He grants His Grace. ||8||5||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਤਭੁਜੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

अंतरि उतभुजु अवरु न कोई ॥
The created Universe emanated from within You; there is no other at all.
ਜੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
Jo Keheeai So Prabh Thae Hoee ||
जो कहीऐ सो प्रभ ते होई ॥
Whatever is said to be, is from You, O God.
ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
Jugeh Juganthar Saahib Sach Soee ||
जुगह जुगंतरि साहिबु सचु सोई ॥
He is the True Lord and Master, throughout the ages.
ਉਤਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥
Outhapath Paralo Avar N Koee ||1||
उतपति परलउ अवरु न कोई ॥१॥
Creation and destruction do not come from anyone else. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥
Aisaa Maeraa Thaakur Gehir Ganbheer ||
ऐसा मेरा ठाकुरु गहिर ग्मभीरु ॥
Such is my Lord and Master, profound and unfathomable.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਜਮ ਤੀਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jin Japiaa Thin Hee Sukh Paaeiaa Har Kai Naam N Lagai Jam Theer ||1|| Rehaao ||
जिनि जपिआ तिन ही सुखु पाइआ हरि कै नामि न लगै जम तीरु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Whoever meditates on Him, finds peace. The arrow of the Messenger of Death does not strike one who has the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੀਰਾ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ॥
Naam Rathan Heeraa Niramol ||
नामु रतनु हीरा निरमोलु ॥
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a priceless jewel, a diamond.
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ॥
Saachaa Saahib Amar Athol ||
साचा साहिबु अमरु अतोलु ॥
The True Lord Master is immortal and immeasurable.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸੂਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੋਲੁ ॥
Jihavaa Soochee Saachaa Bol ||
जिहवा सूची साचा बोलु ॥
That tongue which chants the True Name is pure.
ਘਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੋਲੁ ॥੨॥
Ghar Dhar Saachaa Naahee Rol ||2||
घरि दरि साचा नाही रोलु ॥२॥
The True Lord is in the home of the self; there is no doubt about it. ||2||
ਇਕਿ ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਡੂਗਰਿ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥
Eik Ban Mehi Baisehi Ddoogar Asathhaan ||
इकि बन महि बैसहि डूगरि असथानु ॥
Some sit in the forests, and some make their home in the mountains.
ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਪਚਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
Naam Bisaar Pachehi Abhimaan ||
नामु बिसारि पचहि अभिमानु ॥
Forgetting the Naam, they rot away in egotistical pride.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
Naam Binaa Kiaa Giaan Dhhiaan ||
नाम बिना किआ गिआन धिआनु ॥
Without the Naam, what is the use of spiritual wisdom and meditation?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
Guramukh Paavehi Dharagehi Maan ||3||
गुरमुखि पावहि दरगहि मानु ॥३॥
The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਹਠੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Hath Ahankaar Karai Nehee Paavai ||
हठु अहंकारु करै नही पावै ॥
Acting stubbornly in egotism, one does not find the Lord.
ਪਾਠ ਪੜੈ ਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥
Paath Parrai Lae Lok Sunaavai ||
पाठ पड़ै ले लोक सुणावै ॥
