तिथै तू समरथु जिथै कोइ नाहि ॥
Where You are, Almighty Lord, there is no one else.
ਓਥੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਖ ਅਗਨੀ ਉਦਰ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Outhhai Thaeree Rakh Aganee Oudhar Maahi ||
ओथै तेरी रख अगनी उदर माहि ॥
There, in the fire of the mother's womb, You protected us.
ਸੁਣਿ ਕੈ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਤ ਨਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਛਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
Sun Kai Jam Kae Dhooth Naae Thaerai Shhadd Jaahi ||
सुणि कै जम के दूत नाइ तेरै छडि जाहि ॥
Hearing Your Name, the Messenger of Death runs away.
ਭਉਜਲੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਸਗਾਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Bhoujal Bikham Asagaahu Gur Sabadhee Paar Paahi ||
भउजलु बिखमु असगाहु गुर सबदी पारि पाहि ॥
The terrifying, treacherous, impassible world-ocean is crossed over, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਗੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੇਇ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
Jin Ko Lagee Piaas Anmrith Saee Khaahi ||
जिन कउ लगी पिआस अम्रितु सेइ खाहि ॥
Those who feel thirst for You, take in Your Ambrosial Nectar.
ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਏਹੋ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗਾਹਿ ॥
Kal Mehi Eaeho Punn Gun Govindh Gaahi ||
कलि महि एहो पुंनु गुण गोविंद गाहि ॥
This is the only act of goodness in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, to sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਸਭਸੈ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ਸਾਹਿ ਸਾਹਿ ॥
Sabhasai No Kirapaal Samhaalae Saahi Saahi ||
सभसै नो किरपालु सम्हाले साहि साहि ॥
He is Merciful to all; He sustains us with each and every breath.
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਜਿ ਆਵੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਹਿ ॥੯॥
Birathhaa Koe N Jaae J Aavai Thudhh Aahi ||9||
बिरथा कोइ न जाइ जि आवै तुधु आहि ॥९॥
Those who come to You with love and faith are never turned away empty-handed. ||9||

ਦੂਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਇਹੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
Dhoojaa This N Bujhaaeihu Paarabreham Naam Dhaehu Aadhhaar ||
दूजा तिसु न बुझाइहु पारब्रहम नामु देहु आधारु ॥
Those whom You bless with the Support of Your Name, O Supreme Lord God, do not know any other.
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੋ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਚੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
Agam Agochar Saahibo Samarathh Sach Dhaathaar ||
अगमु अगोचरु साहिबो समरथु सचु दातारु ॥
Inaccessible, Unfathomable Lord and Master, All-powerful True Great Giver:
ਤੂ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥
Thoo Nihachal Niravair Sach Sachaa Thudhh Dharabaar ||
तू निहचलु निरवैरु सचु सचा तुधु दरबारु ॥
You are eternal and unchanging, without vengeance and True; True is the Darbaar of Your Court.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
Keemath Kehan N Jaaeeai Anth N Paaraavaar ||
कीमति कहणु न जाईऐ अंतु न पारावारु ॥
Your worth cannot be described; You have no end or limitation.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਹੋਰੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਸ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
Prabh Shhodd Hor J Manganaa Sabh Bikhiaa Ras Shhaar ||
प्रभु छोडि होरु जि मंगणा सभु बिखिआ रस छारु ॥
To forsake God, and ask for something else, is all corruption and ashes.
ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹ ਸੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਚਾ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥
Sae Sukheeeae Sach Saah Sae Jin Sachaa Biouhaar ||
से सुखीए सचु साह से जिन सचा बिउहारु ॥
They alone find peace, and they are the true kings, whose dealings are true.
ਜਿਨਾ ਲਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
Jinaa Lagee Preeth Prabh Naam Sehaj Sukh Saar ||
जिना लगी प्रीति प्रभ नाम सहज सुख सारु ॥
Those who are in love with God's Name, intuitively enjoy the essence of peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕੁ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਸੰਤਨ ਰੇਣਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

अनद सूख बिस्राम नित हरि का कीरतनु गाइ ॥
Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises bliss peace and rest are obtained.
ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਛਾਡਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰਸਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥

अवर सिआणप छाडि देहि नानक उधरसि नाइ ॥२॥
Forsake other clever tricks, O Nanak; only through the Name will you be saved. ||2||

No one can bring You under control, by despising the world.
ਨਾ ਤੂ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਾਵਣੇ ॥
Naa Thoo Aavehi Vas Baedh Parraavanae ||
ना तू आवहि वसि बेद पड़ावणे ॥
No one can bring You under control, by studying the Vedas.
ਨਾ ਤੂ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਈਐ ॥
Naa Thoo Aavehi Vas Theerathh Naaeeai ||
ना तू आवहि वसि तीरथि नाईऐ ॥
No one can bring You under control, by bathing at the holy places.
ਨਾ ਤੂ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਾਈਐ ॥
Naa Thoo Aavehi Vas Dhharathee Dhhaaeeai ||
ना तू आवहि वसि धरती धाईऐ ॥
No one can bring You under control, by wandering all over the world.
ਨਾ ਤੂ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਸਿਆਣਪੈ ॥
Naa Thoo Aavehi Vas Kithai Siaanapai ||
ना तू आवहि वसि कितै सिआणपै ॥
No one can bring You under control, by any clever tricks.
ਨਾ ਤੂ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇ ॥
Naa Thoo Aavehi Vas Bahuthaa Dhaan Dhae ||
ना तू आवहि वसि बहुता दानु दे ॥
No one can bring You under control, by giving huge donations to charities.
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰਾ ॥
Sabh Ko Thaerai Vas Agam Agocharaa ||
सभु को तेरै वसि अगम अगोचरा ॥
Everyone is under Your power, O inaccessible, unfathomable Lord.
ਤੂ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਤਾਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧੦॥
Thoo Bhagathaa Kai Vas Bhagathaa Thaan Thaeraa ||10||
तू भगता कै वसि भगता ताणु तेरा ॥१०॥
You are under the control of Your devotees; You are the strength of Your devotees. ||10||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਵੈਦੁ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ॥
Aapae Vaidh Aap Naaraaein ||
आपे वैदु आपि नाराइणु ॥
The Lord Himself is the true physician.
ਏਹਿ ਵੈਦ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਇਣ ॥
Eaehi Vaidh Jeea Kaa Dhukh Laaein ||
एहि वैद जीअ का दुखु लाइण ॥
These physicians of the world only burden the soul with pain.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇਣ ॥
Gur Kaa Sabadh Anmrith Ras Khaaein ||
गुर का सबदु अम्रित रसु खाइण ॥
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is Ambrosial Nectar; it is so delicious to eat.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟਾਇਣ ॥੧॥
Naanak Jis Man Vasai This Kae Sabh Dhookh Mittaaein ||1||
नानक जिसु मनि वसै तिस के सभि दूख मिटाइण ॥१॥
O Nanak, one whose mind is filled with this Nectar - all his pains are dispelled. ||1||

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਉਛਲੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹੈ ॥
Hukam Oushhalai Hukamae Rehai ||
हुकमि उछलै हुकमे रहै ॥
By the Hukam of Lord's Command they move about; by the Lord's Command they remain still.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਸਹੈ ॥
Hukamae Dhukh Sukh Sam Kar Sehai ||
हुकमे दुखु सुखु सम करि सहै ॥
By His Hukam, they endure pain and pleasure alike.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
Hukamae Naam Japai Dhin Raath ||
हुकमे नामु जपै दिनु राति ॥
By His Hukam, they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, day and night.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
Naanak Jis No Hovai Dhaath ||
नानक जिस नो होवै दाति ॥
O Nanak, he alone does so, who is blessed.
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
Hukam Marai Hukamae Hee Jeevai ||
हुकमि मरै हुकमे ही जीवै ॥
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, they die; by the Hukam of His Command, they live.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਨਾਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਡਾ ਥੀਵੈ ॥
Hukamae Naanhaa Vaddaa Thheevai ||
हुकमे नान्हा वडा थीवै ॥
By His Hukam, they become tiny, and huge.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਆਨੰਦ ॥
Hukamae Sog Harakh Aanandh ||
हुकमे सोग हरख आनंद ॥
By His Hukam, they receive pain, happiness and bliss.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਪੈ ਨਿਰੋਧਰ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ ॥
Hukamae Japai Nirodhhar Guramanth ||
हुकमे जपै निरोधर गुरमंत ॥
By His Hukam, they chant the Guru's Mantra, which always works.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
Hukamae Aavan Jaan Rehaaeae ||
हुकमे आवणु जाणु रहाए ॥
By His Hukam, coming and going in reincarnation cease,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
Naanak Jaa Ko Bhagathee Laaeae ||2||
नानक जा कउ भगती लाए ॥२॥
O Nanak, when He links them to His devotional worship. ||2||

हउ तिसु ढाढी कुरबाणु जि तेरा सेवदारु ॥
I am a sacrifice to that musician who is Your servant, O Lord.
ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਢਾਢੀ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
Ho This Dtaadtee Balihaar J Gaavai Gun Apaar ||
हउ तिसु ढाढी बलिहार जि गावै गुण अपार ॥
I am a sacrifice to that musician who sings the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
ਸੋ ਢਾਢੀ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਲੋੜੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
So Dtaadtee Dhhan Dhhann Jis Lorrae Nirankaar ||
सो ढाढी धनु धंनु जिसु लोड़े निरंकारु ॥
Blessed, blessed is that musician, for whom the Formless Lord Himself longs.
ਸੋ ਢਾਢੀ ਭਾਗਠੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਚਾ ਦੁਆਰ ਬਾਰੁ ॥
So Dtaadtee Bhaagath Jis Sachaa Dhuaar Baar ||
सो ढाढी भागठु जिसु सचा दुआर बारु ॥
Very fortunate is that musician who comes to the gate of the Court of the True Lord.
ਓਹੁ ਢਾਢੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਕਲਾਣੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਾਰ ॥
Ouhu Dtaadtee Thudhh Dhhiaae Kalaanae Dhin Rainaar ||
ओहु ढाढी तुधु धिआइ कलाणे दिनु रैणार ॥
That musician meditates on You, Lord, and praises You day and night.
ਮੰਗੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਦੇ ਹਾਰਿ ॥
Mangai Anmrith Naam N Aavai Kadhae Haar ||
मंगै अम्रित नामु न आवै कदे हारि ॥
He begs for the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, and will never be defeated.
ਕਪੜੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਹਦਾ ਲਿਵੈ ਧਾਰ ॥
Kaparr Bhojan Sach Rehadhaa Livai Dhhaar ||
कपड़ु भोजनु सचु रहदा लिवै धार ॥
His clothes and his food are true, and he enshrines love for the Lord within.
ਸੋ ਢਾਢੀ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧੧॥
So Dtaadtee Gunavanth Jis No Prabh Piaar ||11||
सो ढाढी गुणवंतु जिस नो प्रभ पिआरु ॥११॥
Praiseworthy is that musician who loves God. ||11||
