Ouhu Bidhhaathaa Man Than Dhaee ||
ओहु बिधाता मनु तनु देइ ॥
He is the Architect of Destiny; He blesses us with mind and body.
ਓਹੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਇ ॥

ओहु बिधाता मनि मुखि सोइ ॥
That Architect of Destiny is in my mind and mouth.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
Prabh Jagajeevan Avar N Koe ||
प्रभु जगजीवनु अवरु न कोइ ॥
God is the Life of the world; there is no other at all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੯॥
Naanak Naam Rathae Path Hoe ||9||
नानक नामि रते पति होइ ॥९॥
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one is honored. ||9||
ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਰਵੈ ਹਿਤਕਾਰਿ ॥
Raajan Raam Ravai Hithakaar ||
राजन राम रवै हितकारि ॥
One who lovingly chants the Name of the Sovereign Lord King,
ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਲੂਝੈ ਮਨੂਆ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
Ran Mehi Loojhai Manooaa Maar ||
रण महि लूझै मनूआ मारि ॥
Fights the battle and conquers his own mind;
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤਿ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Raath Dhinanth Rehai Rang Raathaa ||
राति दिनंति रहै रंगि राता ॥
Day and night, he remains imbued with the Lord's Love.
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Theen Bhavan Jug Chaarae Jaathaa ||
तीनि भवन जुग चारे जाता ॥
He is famous throughout the three worlds and the four ages.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੇਹਾ ॥
Jin Jaathaa So This Hee Jaehaa ||
जिनि जाता सो तिस ही जेहा ॥
One who knows the Lord, becomes like Him.
ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਸੀਝਸਿ ਦੇਹਾ ॥
Ath Niramaaeil Seejhas Dhaehaa ||
अति निरमाइलु सीझसि देहा ॥
He becomes absolutely immaculate, and his body is sanctified.
ਰਹਸੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਇਕ ਭਾਇ ॥
Rehasee Raam Ridhai Eik Bhaae ||
रहसी रामु रिदै इक भाइ ॥
His heart is happy, in love with the One Lord.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
Anthar Sabadh Saach Liv Laae ||10||
अंतरि सबदु साचि लिव लाइ ॥१०॥
He lovingly centers his attention deep within upon the True Word of the Shabad. ||10||
ਰੋਸੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਰਹਣੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥
Ros N Keejai Anmrith Peejai Rehan Nehee Sansaarae ||
रोसु न कीजै अम्रितु पीजै रहणु नही संसारे ॥
Don't be angry - drink in the Ambrosial Nectar; you shall not remain in this world forever.
ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਇ ਰੰਕ ਨਹੀ ਰਹਣਾ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
Raajae Raae Rank Nehee Rehanaa Aae Jaae Jug Chaarae ||
राजे राइ रंक नही रहणा आइ जाइ जुग चारे ॥
The ruling kings and the paupers shall not remain; they come and go, throughout the four ages.
ਰਹਣ ਕਹਣ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ॥
Rehan Kehan Thae Rehai N Koee Kis Pehi Karo Binanthee ||
रहण कहण ते रहै न कोई किसु पहि करउ बिनंती ॥
Everyone says that they will remain, but none of them remain; unto whom should I offer my prayer?
ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰੋਧਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਮਤੀ ॥੧੧॥
Eaek Sabadh Raam Naam Nirodhhar Gur Dhaevai Path Mathee ||11||
एकु सबदु राम नाम निरोधरु गुरु देवै पति मती ॥११॥
The One Shabad, the Name of the Lord, will never fail you; the Guru grants honor and understanding. ||11||
ਲਾਜ ਮਰੰਤੀ ਮਰਿ ਗਈ ਘੂਘਟੁ ਖੋਲਿ ਚਲੀ ॥
Laaj Maranthee Mar Gee Ghooghatt Khol Chalee ||
लाज मरंती मरि गई घूघटु खोलि चली ॥
My shyness and hesitation have died and gone, and I walk with my face unveiled.
ਸਾਸੁ ਦਿਵਾਨੀ ਬਾਵਰੀ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਕ ਟਲੀ ॥
Saas Dhivaanee Baavaree Sir Thae Sank Ttalee ||
सासु दिवानी बावरी सिर ते संक टली ॥
The confusion and doubt from my crazy, insane mother-in-law has been removed from over my head.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਬੁਲਾਈ ਰਲੀ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
Praem Bulaaee Ralee Sio Man Mehi Sabadh Anandh ||
प्रेमि बुलाई रली सिउ मन महि सबदु अनंदु ॥
My Beloved has summoned me with joyful caresses; my mind is filled with the bliss of the Shabad.
ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤੀ ਲਾਲੀ ਭਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਈ ਨਿਚਿੰਦੁ ॥੧੨॥
Laal Rathee Laalee Bhee Guramukh Bhee Nichindh ||12||
लालि रती लाली भई गुरमुखि भई निचिंदु ॥१२॥
Imbued with the Love of my Beloved, I have become Gurmukh, and carefree. ||12||
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
Laahaa Naam Rathan Jap Saar ||
लाहा नामु रतनु जपि सारु ॥
Chant the jewel of the Naam, and earn the profit of the Lord.
ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
Lab Lobh Buraa Ahankaar ||
लबु लोभु बुरा अहंकारु ॥
Greed, avarice, evil and egotism;
ਲਾੜੀ ਚਾੜੀ ਲਾਇਤਬਾਰੁ ॥
Laarree Chaarree Laaeithabaar ||
लाड़ी चाड़ी लाइतबारु ॥
Slander, inuendo and gossip;
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥
Manamukh Andhhaa Mugadhh Gavaar ||
मनमुखु अंधा मुगधु गवारु ॥
The self-willed manmukh is blind, foolish and ignorant.
ਲਾਹੇ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਿ ॥
Laahae Kaaran Aaeiaa Jag ||
लाहे कारणि आइआ जगि ॥
For the sake of earning the profit of the Lord, the mortal comes into the world.
ਹੋਇ ਮਜੂਰੁ ਗਇਆ ਠਗਾਇ ਠਗਿ ॥
Hoe Majoor Gaeiaa Thagaae Thag ||
होइ मजूरु गइआ ठगाइ ठगि ॥
But he becomes a mere slave laborer, and is mugged by the mugger, Maya.
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥
Laahaa Naam Poonjee Vaesaahu ||
लाहा नामु पूंजी वेसाहु ॥
One who earns the profit of the Naam, with the capital of faith,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥੧੩॥
Naanak Sachee Path Sachaa Paathisaahu ||13||
नानक सची पति सचा पातिसाहु ॥१३॥
O Nanak, is truly honored by the True Supreme King. ||13||
ਆਇ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਜਮ ਪੰਥੁ ॥
Aae Vigoothaa Jag Jam Panthh ||
आइ विगूता जगु जम पंथु ॥
The world is ruined on the path of Death.
ਆਈ ਨ ਮੇਟਣ ਕੋ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
Aaee N Maettan Ko Samarathh ||
आई न मेटण को समरथु ॥
No one has the power to erase Maya's influence.
ਆਥਿ ਸੈਲ ਨੀਚ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Aathh Sail Neech Ghar Hoe ||
आथि सैल नीच घरि होइ ॥
If wealth visits the home of the lowliest clown,
ਆਥਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੋਇ ॥
Aathh Dhaekh Nivai Jis Dhoe ||
आथि देखि निवै जिसु दोइ ॥
Seeing that wealth, all pay their respects to him.
ਆਥਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਾ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
Aathh Hoe Thaa Mugadhh Siaanaa ||
आथि होइ ता मुगधु सिआना ॥
Even an idiot is thought of as clever, if he is rich.
ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਜਗੁ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ॥
Bhagath Bihoonaa Jag Bouraanaa ||
भगति बिहूना जगु बउराना ॥
Without devotional worship, the world is insane.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥
Sabh Mehi Varathai Eaeko Soe ||
सभ महि वरतै एको सोइ ॥
The One Lord is contained among all.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੪॥
Jis No Kirapaa Karae This Paragatt Hoe ||14||
जिस नो किरपा करे तिसु परगटु होइ ॥१४॥
He reveals Himself, unto those whom He blesses with His Grace. ||14||
ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ॥
Jug Jug Thhaap Sadhaa Niravair ||
जुगि जुगि थापि सदा निरवैरु ॥
Throughout the ages, the Lord is eternally established; He has no vengeance.
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਣਿ ਨਹੀ ਧੰਧਾ ਧੈਰੁ ॥
Janam Maran Nehee Dhhandhhaa Dhhair ||
जनमि मरणि नही धंधा धैरु ॥
He is not subject to birth and death; He is not entangled in worldly affairs.
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
Jo Dheesai So Aapae Aap ||
जो दीसै सो आपे आपि ॥
Whatever is seen, is the Lord Himself.
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਘਟ ਥਾਪਿ ॥
Aap Oupaae Aapae Ghatt Thhaap ||
आपि उपाइ आपे घट थापि ॥
Creating Himself, He establishes Himself in the heart.
ਆਪਿ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲੋਈ ॥
Aap Agochar Dhhandhhai Loee ||
आपि अगोचरु धंधै लोई ॥
He Himself is unfathomable; He links people to their affairs.
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
Jog Jugath Jagajeevan Soee ||
जोग जुगति जगजीवनु सोई ॥
He is the Way of Yoga, the Life of the World.
ਕਰਿ ਆਚਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
Kar Aachaar Sach Sukh Hoee ||
करि आचारु सचु सुखु होई ॥
Living a righteous lifestyle, true peace is found.
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਵ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੫॥
Naam Vihoonaa Mukath Kiv Hoee ||15||
नाम विहूणा मुकति किव होई ॥१५॥
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone find liberation? ||15||
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਵੇਰੋਧੁ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
Vin Naavai Vaerodhh Sareer ||
विणु नावै वेरोधु सरीर ॥
Without the Name, even one's own body is an enemy.
ਕਿਉ ਨ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਕਾਟਹਿ ਮਨ ਪੀਰ ॥
Kio N Milehi Kaattehi Man Peer ||
किउ न मिलहि काटहि मन पीर ॥
Why not meet the Lord, and take away the pain of your mind?
ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਊ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Vaatt Vattaaoo Aavai Jaae ||
वाट वटाऊ आवै जाइ ॥
The traveller comes and goes along the highway.
ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਆਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
Kiaa Lae Aaeiaa Kiaa Palai Paae ||
किआ ले आइआ किआ पलै पाइ ॥
What did he bring when he came, and what will he take away when he goes?
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਸਭ ਥਾਇ ॥
Vin Naavai Thottaa Sabh Thhaae ||
विणु नावै तोटा सभ थाइ ॥
Without the Name, one loses everywhere.
ਲਾਹਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥
Laahaa Milai Jaa Dhaee Bujhaae ||
लाहा मिलै जा देइ बुझाइ ॥
The profit is earned, when the Lord grants understanding.
ਵਣਜੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਵਣਜੈ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ॥
Vanaj Vaapaar Vanajai Vaapaaree ||
वणजु वापारु वणजै वापारी ॥
In merchandise and trade, the merchant is trading.
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈਸੀ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੧੬॥
Vin Naavai Kaisee Path Saaree ||16||
विणु नावै कैसी पति सारी ॥१६॥
Without the Name, how can one find honor and nobility? ||16||
ਗੁਣ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
Gun Veechaarae Giaanee Soe ||
गुण वीचारे गिआनी सोइ ॥
One who contemplates the Lord's Virtues is spiritually wise.
ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
Gun Mehi Giaan Paraapath Hoe ||
गुण महि गिआनु परापति होइ ॥
Through His Virtues, one receives spiritual wisdom.
ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
Gunadhaathaa Viralaa Sansaar ||
गुणदाता विरला संसारि ॥
How rare in this world, is the Giver of virtue.
ਸਾਚੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Saachee Karanee Gur Veechaar ||
साची करणी गुर वीचारि ॥
The True way of life comes through contemplation of the Guru.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
Agam Agochar Keemath Nehee Paae ||
अगम अगोचरु कीमति नही पाइ ॥
The Lord is inaccessible and unfathomable. His worth cannot be estimated.
