Sathigur Naam Dhrirraaeae Ath Meethaa Mailaagar Malagaarae ||
सतिगुर नामु द्रिड़ाए अति मीठा मैलागरु मलगारे ॥
The True Guru has implanted within me the exceedingly sweet Naam, the Name of the Lord; it is like the most fragrant sandalwood.
ਨਾਮੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਜੀ ਹੈ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਸਕੀ ਮੁਸਕ ਗੰਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
Naamai Surath Vajee Hai Dheh Dhis Har Musakee Musak Gandhhaarae ||1||
नामै सुरति वजी है दह दिसि हरि मुसकी मुसक गंधारे ॥१॥
Through the Name, my awareness extends in the ten directions; the fragrance of the fragrant Lord permeates the air. ||1||
ਤੇਰੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਮੀਠੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਨੀਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥
Thaeree Niragun Kathhaa Kathhaa Hai Meethee Gur Neekae Bachan Samaarae ||
तेरी निरगुण कथा कथा है मीठी गुरि नीके बचन समारे ॥
Your unlimited sermon is the most sweet sermon; I contemplate the most Sublime Word of the Guru.

Gaavath Gaavath Har Gun Gaaeae Gun Gaavath Gur Nisathaarae ||2||
गावत गावत हरि गुन गाए गुन गावत गुरि निसतारे ॥२॥
Singing, singing, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; singing His Glorious Praises, the Guru saves me. ||2||
ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸੰਕ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥
Bibaek Guroo Guroo Samadharasee This Mileeai Sank Outhaarae ||
बिबेकु गुरू गुरू समदरसी तिसु मिलीऐ संक उतारे ॥
The Guru is wise and clear; the Guru looks upon all alike. Meeting with Him, doubt and skepticism are removed.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
Sathigur Miliai Param Padh Paaeiaa Ho Sathigur Kai Balihaarae ||3||
सतिगुर मिलिऐ परम पदु पाइआ हउ सतिगुर कै बलिहारे ॥३॥
Meeting with the True Guru, I have obtained the supreme status. I am a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||3||
ਪਾਖੰਡ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮੇ ਲੋਭੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਜਗਿ ਬੁਰਿਆਰੇ ॥
Paakhandd Paakhandd Kar Kar Bharamae Lobh Paakhandd Jag Buriaarae ||
पाखंड पाखंड करि करि भरमे लोभु पाखंडु जगि बुरिआरे ॥
Practicing hypocrisy and deception, people wander around in confusion. Greed and hypocrisy are evils in this world.
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਖੜਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
Halath Palath Dhukhadhaaee Hovehi Jamakaal Kharraa Sir Maarae ||4||
हलति पलति दुखदाई होवहि जमकालु खड़ा सिरि मारे ॥४॥
In this world and the next, they are miserable; the Messenger of Death hovers over their heads, and strikes them down. ||4||
ਉਗਵੈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਆਲੁ ਜਾਲੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੇ ॥
Ougavai Dhinas Aal Jaal Samhaalai Bikh Maaeiaa Kae Bisathhaarae ||
उगवै दिनसु आलु जालु सम्हालै बिखु माइआ के बिसथारे ॥
At the break of day, they take care of their affairs, and the poisonous entanglements of Maya.
ਆਈ ਰੈਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਭੀ ਦੁਖ ਸਾਰੇ ॥੫॥
Aaee Rain Bhaeiaa Supananthar Bikh Supanai Bhee Dhukh Saarae ||5||
आई रैनि भइआ सुपनंतरु बिखु सुपनै भी दुख सारे ॥५॥
When night falls, they enter the land of dreams, and even in dreams, they take care of their corruptions and pains. ||5||
ਕਲਰੁ ਖੇਤੁ ਲੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਜਮਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੇ ਖਲਵਾਰੇ ॥
Kalar Khaeth Lai Koorr Jamaaeiaa Sabh Koorrai Kae Khalavaarae ||
कलरु खेतु लै कूड़ु जमाइआ सभ कूड़ै के खलवारे ॥
Taking a barren field, they plant falsehood; they shall harvest only falsehood.
ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸਭਿ ਭੂਖ ਭੁਖਾਨੇ ਦਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੇ ॥੬॥
Saakath Nar Sabh Bhookh Bhukhaanae Dhar Thaadtae Jam Jandhaarae ||6||
साकत नर सभि भूख भुखाने दरि ठाढे जम जंदारे ॥६॥
The materialistic people shall all remain hungry; the brutal Messenger of Death stands waiting at their door. ||6||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਜੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
Manamukh Karaj Charriaa Bikh Bhaaree Outharai Sabadh Veechaarae ||
मनमुख करजु चड़िआ बिखु भारी उतरै सबदु वीचारे ॥
The self-willed manmukh has accumulated a tremendous load of debt in sin; only by contemplating the Word of the Shabad, can this debt be paid off.
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਕਰਜ ਕਰਜ ਕੇ ਮੰਗੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਵਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
Jithanae Karaj Karaj Kae Mangeeeae Kar Saevak Pag Lag Vaarae ||7||
जितने करज करज के मंगीए करि सेवक पगि लगि वारे ॥७॥
As much debt and as many creditors as there are, the Lord makes them into servants, who fall at his feet. ||7||
ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਸਭਿ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਉਪਾਏ ਨਕਿ ਖੀਨੀ ਸਭ ਨਥਹਾਰੇ ॥
Jagannaathh Sabh Janthr Oupaaeae Nak Kheenee Sabh Nathhehaarae ||
जगंनाथ सभि जंत्र उपाए नकि खीनी सभ नथहारे ॥
All the beings which the Lord of the Universe created - He puts the rings through their noses, and leads them all along.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਖਿੰਚੈ ਤਿਵ ਚਲੀਐ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੮॥੨॥

नानक प्रभु खिंचै तिव चलीऐ जिउ भावै राम पिआरे ॥८॥२॥
O Nanak, as God drives us on, so do we follow; it is all the Will of the Beloved Lord. ||8||2||

राम हरि अम्रित सरि नावारे ॥
The Lord has bathed me in the pool of Ambrosial Nectar.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਕੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਲਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sathigur Giaan Majan Hai Neeko Mil Kalamal Paap Outhaarae ||1|| Rehaao ||
सतिगुरि गिआनु मजनु है नीको मिलि कलमल पाप उतारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
The spiritual wisdom of the True Guru is the most excellent cleansing bath; bathing in it, all the filthy sins are washed away. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ਪੜਿ ਸੂਆ ਗਨਕ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
Sangath Kaa Gun Bahuth Adhhikaaee Parr Sooaa Ganak Oudhhaarae ||
संगति का गुनु बहुतु अधिकाई पड़ि सूआ गनक उधारे ॥
The virtues of the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, are so very great. Even the prostitute was saved, by teaching the parrot to speak the Lord's Name.
ਪਰਸ ਨਪਰਸ ਭਏ ਕੁਬਿਜਾ ਕਉ ਲੈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
Paras Naparas Bheae Kubijaa Ko Lai Baikunth Sidhhaarae ||1||
परस नपरस भए कुबिजा कउ लै बैकुंठि सिधारे ॥१॥
Krishna was pleased, and so he touched the hunch-back Kubija, and she was transported to the heavens. ||1||
ਅਜਾਮਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਬੋਲਾਰੇ ॥
Ajaamal Preeth Puthr Prath Keenee Kar Naaraaein Bolaarae ||
अजामल प्रीति पुत्र प्रति कीनी करि नाराइण बोलारे ॥
Ajaamal loved his son Naaraayan, and called out his name.
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
Maerae Thaakur Kai Man Bhaae Bhaavanee Jamakankar Maar Bidhaarae ||2||
मेरे ठाकुर कै मनि भाइ भावनी जमकंकर मारि बिदारे ॥२॥
His loving devotion pleased my Lord and Master, who struck down and drove off the Messengers of Death. ||2||
ਮਾਨੁਖੁ ਕਥੈ ਕਥਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੋ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
Maanukh Kathhai Kathh Lok Sunaavai Jo Bolai So N Beechaarae ||
मानुखु कथै कथि लोक सुनावै जो बोलै सो न बीचारे ॥
The mortal speaks and by speaking, makes the people listen; but he does not reflect upon what he himself says.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਦਿੜਤਾ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
Sathasangath Milai Th Dhirrathaa Aavai Har Raam Naam Nisathaarae ||3||
सतसंगति मिलै त दिड़ता आवै हरि राम नामि निसतारे ॥३॥
But when he joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, he is confirmed in his faith, and he is saved by the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਤਬ ਲਗਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥
Jab Lag Jeeo Pindd Hai Saabath Thab Lag Kishh N Samaarae ||
जब लगु जीउ पिंडु है साबतु तब लगि किछु न समारे ॥
As long as his soul and body are healthy and strong, he does not remember the Lord at all.
ਜਬ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਆਗਿ ਲਗਾਨੀ ਕਢਿ ਕੂਪੁ ਕਢੈ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
Jab Ghar Mandhar Aag Lagaanee Kadt Koop Kadtai Panihaarae ||4||
जब घर मंदरि आगि लगानी कढि कूपु कढै पनिहारे ॥४॥
But when his home and mansion catch fire, then, he wants to dig the well to draw water. ||4||
ਸਾਕਤ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਮੇਲੁ ਨ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
Saakath Sio Man Mael N Kareeahu Jin Har Har Naam Bisaarae ||
साकत सिउ मन मेलु न करीअहु जिनि हरि हरि नामु बिसारे ॥
O mind, do not join with the faithless cynic, who has forgotten the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਸਾਕਤ ਬਚਨ ਬਿਛੂਆ ਜਿਉ ਡਸੀਐ ਤਜਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਰੈ ਪਰਾਰੇ ॥੫॥
Saakath Bachan Bishhooaa Jio Ddaseeai Thaj Saakath Parai Paraarae ||5||
साकत बचन बिछूआ जिउ डसीऐ तजि साकत परै परारे ॥५॥
The word of the faithless cynic stings like a scorpion; leave the faithless cynic far, far behind. ||5||
