फरीदा भूमि रंगावली मंझि विसूला बागु ॥
Fareed, this world is beautiful, but there is a thorny garden within it.

जपु तपु संजमु दइआ धरमु जिसु देहि सु पाए ॥
He alone obtains meditation, austerities, self-discipline, compassion and Dharmic faith, whom the Lord so blesses.
ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਹਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
Jis Bujhaaeihi Agan Aap So Naam Dhhiaaeae ||
जिसु बुझाइहि अगनि आपि सो नामु धिआए ॥
He alone meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, whose fire the Lord puts out.
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਅਗਮ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਇਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥
Antharajaamee Agam Purakh Eik Dhrisatt Dhikhaaeae ||
अंतरजामी अगम पुरखु इक द्रिसटि दिखाए ॥
The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Inaccessible Primal Lord, inspires us to look upon all with an impartial eye.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਆਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

साधसंगति कै आसरै प्रभ सिउ रंगु लाए ॥
With the support of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one falls in love with God.

Aougan Katt Mukh Oujalaa Har Naam Tharaaeae ||
अउगण कटि मुखु उजला हरि नामि तराए ॥
One's faults are eradicated, and one's face becomes radiant and bright; through the Lord's Name, one crosses over.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਉ ਕਟਿਓਨੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
Janam Maran Bho Kattioun Fir Jon N Paaeae ||
जनम मरण भउ कटिओनु फिरि जोनि न पाए ॥
The fear of birth and death is removed, and he is not reincarnated again.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿਅਨੁ ਲੜੁ ਆਪਿ ਫੜਾਏ ॥
Andhh Koop Thae Kaadtian Larr Aap Farraaeae ||
अंध कूप ते काढिअनु लड़ु आपि फड़ाए ॥
God lifts him up and pulls him out of the deep, dark pit, and attaches him to the hem of His robe.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਰਖੇ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਏ ॥੨੧॥

Muhabath Jis Khudhaae Dhee Rathaa Rang Chalool ||
मुहबति जिसु खुदाइ दी रता रंगि चलूलि ॥
One who loves God is imbued with the deep crimson color of His love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਮੂਲਿ ॥੧॥

अंदरु विधा सचि नाइ बाहरि भी सचु डिठोमि ॥
The True Name has pierced the nucleus of my self deep within. Outside, I see the True Lord as well.

He Himself created the Universe; He Himself imbues it.

आपे होइओ इकु आपे बहु भतिआ ॥
He Himself is One, and He Himself has numerous forms.
ਆਪੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਮੰਝਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥

आपे सभना मंझि आपे बाहरा ॥
He Himself is within all, and He Himself is beyond them.

He Himself is known to be far away, and He Himself is right here.

आपे होवहि गुपतु आपे परगटीऐ ॥
He Himself is hidden, and He Himself is revealed.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਤੇਰੀ ਥਟੀਐ ॥

कीमति किसै न पाइ तेरी थटीऐ ॥
No one can estimate the value of Your Creation, Lord.

गहिर ग्मभीरु अथाहु अपारु अगणतु तूं ॥
You are deep and profound, unfathomable, infinite and invaluable.

दे गुना सति भैण भराव है पारंगति दानु पड़ीवदै ॥
His divine virtues are the true sisters and brothers; through them, the gift of supreme status is obtained.
ਨਾਨਕਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਸਤਾਣੀ ਨੀਵ ਦੈ ॥

नानकि राजु चलाइआ सचु कोटु सताणी नीव दै ॥
Nanak established the kingdom; He built the true fortress on the strongest foundations.
ਲਹਣੇ ਧਰਿਓਨੁ ਛਤੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਦੈ ॥

लहणे धरिओनु छतु सिरि करि सिफती अम्रितु पीवदै ॥
He installed the royal canopy over Lehna's head; chanting the Lord's Praises, He drank in the Ambrosial Nectar.

गुरि चेले रहरासि कीई नानकि सलामति थीवदै ॥
The Guru bowed down to His disciple, while Nanak was still alive.

The King, while still alive, applied the ceremonial mark to his forehead. ||1||
ਲਹਣੇ ਦੀ ਫੇਰਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੋਹੀ ਖਟੀਐ ॥
Lehanae Dhee Faeraaeeai Naanakaa Dhohee Khatteeai ||
लहणे दी फेराईऐ नानका दोही खटीऐ ॥
Nanak proclaimed Lehna's succession - he earned it.
ਜੋਤਿ ਓਹਾ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਾਇ ਸਹਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਫੇਰਿ ਪਲਟੀਐ ॥
Joth Ouhaa Jugath Saae Sehi Kaaeiaa Faer Palatteeai ||
जोति ओहा जुगति साइ सहि काइआ फेरि पलटीऐ ॥
They shared the One Light and the same way; the King just changed His body.
ਝੁਲੈ ਸੁ ਛਤੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੀ ਮਲਿ ਤਖਤੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਹਟੀਐ ॥
Jhulai S Shhath Niranjanee Mal Thakhath Baithaa Gur Hatteeai ||
झुलै सु छतु निरंजनी मलि तखतु बैठा गुर हटीऐ ॥
The immaculate canopy waves over Him, and He sits on the throne in the Guru's shop.
