The world is the creation of the True Lord.

काहू बिहावै रसना सादि ॥
Some pass their lives tasting flavors.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਲਪਟਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

काहू बिहावै लपटि संगि नारी ॥
Some pass their lives attached to women.
ਸੰਤ ਰਚੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Santh Rachae Kaeval Naam Muraaree ||2||
संत रचे केवल नाम मुरारी ॥२॥
The Saints are absorbed only in the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਖੇਲਤ ਜੂਆ ॥

काहू बिहावै खेलत जूआ ॥
Some pass their lives gambling.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਅਮਲੀ ਹੂਆ ॥

काहू बिहावै अमली हूआ ॥
Some pass their lives getting drunk.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਪਰ ਦਰਬ ਚਰਾਏ ॥
Kaahoo Bihaavai Par Dharab Chuoraaeae ||
काहू बिहावै पर दरब चोराए ॥
Some pass their lives stealing the property of others.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਨਾਮ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥
Har Jan Bihaavai Naam Dhhiaaeae ||3||
हरि जन बिहावै नाम धिआए ॥३॥
The humble servants of the Lord pass their lives meditating on the Naam. ||3||
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਜੋਗ ਤਪ ਪੂਜਾ ॥

काहू बिहावै जोग तप पूजा ॥
Some pass their lives in Yoga, strict meditation, worship and adoration.
ਕਾਹੂ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਭਰਮੀਜਾ ॥
Kaahoo Rog Sog Bharameejaa ||
काहू रोग सोग भरमीजा ॥
Some, in sickness, sorrow and doubt.
ਕਾਹੂ ਪਵਨ ਧਾਰ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਹਾਏ ॥
Kaahoo Pavan Dhhaar Jaath Bihaaeae ||
काहू पवन धार जात बिहाए ॥
Some pass their lives practicing control of the breath.
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਏ ॥੪॥
Santh Bihaavai Keerathan Gaaeae ||4||
संत बिहावै कीरतनु गाए ॥४॥
The Saints pass their lives singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||4||
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਚਾਲਤ ॥
Kaahoo Bihaavai Dhin Rain Chaalath ||
काहू बिहावै दिनु रैनि चालत ॥
Some pass their lives walking day and night.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਿੜੁ ਮਾਲਤ ॥
Kaahoo Bihaavai So Pirr Maalath ||
काहू बिहावै सो पिड़ु मालत ॥
Some pass their lives on the fields of battle.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਬਾਲ ਪੜਾਵਤ ॥

काहू बिहावै बाल पड़ावत ॥
Some pass their lives teaching children.
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ॥੫॥

संत बिहावै हरि जसु गावत ॥५॥
The Saints pass their lives singing the Lord's Praise. ||5||

काहू बिहावै नट नाटिक निरते ॥
Some pass their lives as actors, acting and dancing.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਜੀਆਇਹ ਹਿਰਤੇ ॥

काहू बिहावै जीआइह हिरते ॥
Some pass their lives taking the lives of others.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਡਰਤੇ ॥
Kaahoo Bihaavai Raaj Mehi Ddarathae ||
काहू बिहावै राज महि डरते ॥
Some pass their lives ruling by intimidation.
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਰਤੇ ॥੬॥

संत बिहावै हरि जसु करते ॥६॥
The Saints pass their lives chanting the Lord's Praises. ||6||
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਮਤਾ ਮਸੂਰਤਿ ॥

काहू बिहावै मता मसूरति ॥
Some pass their lives counseling and giving advice.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਰੂਰਤਿ ॥
Kaahoo Bihaavai Saevaa Jaroorath ||
काहू बिहावै सेवा जरूरति ॥
Some pass their lives forced to serve others.
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਧਤ ਜੀਵਤ ॥
Kaahoo Bihaavai Sodhhath Jeevath ||
काहू बिहावै सोधत जीवत ॥
Some pass their lives exploring life's mysteries.
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਤ ॥੭॥
Santh Bihaavai Har Ras Peevath ||7||
संत बिहावै हरि रसु पीवत ॥७॥
The Saints pass their lives drinking in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||7||
ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥
Jith Ko Laaeiaa Thith Hee Lagaanaa ||
जितु को लाइआ तित ही लगाना ॥
As the Lord attaches us, so we are attached.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੂੜੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
Naa Ko Moorr Nehee Ko Siaanaa ||
ना को मूड़ु नही को सिआना ॥
No one is foolish, and no one is wise.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਉ ॥
Kar Kirapaa Jis Dhaevai Naao ||
करि किरपा जिसु देवै नाउ ॥
Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those who are blessed
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੮॥੩॥

ਦਾਵਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੂਟ ॥

दावा अगनि रहे हरि बूट ॥
Even in a forest fire, some trees remain green.
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਸੰਕਟ ਤੇ ਛੂਟ ॥
Maath Garabh Sankatt Thae Shhoott ||
मात गरभ संकट ते छूट ॥
The infant is released from the pain of the mother's womb.
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
Jaa Kaa Naam Simarath Bho Jaae ||
जा का नामु सिमरत भउ जाइ ॥
Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, fear is dispelled.
ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
Thaisae Santh Janaa Raakhai Har Raae ||1||
तैसे संत जना राखै हरि राइ ॥१॥
Just so, the Sovereign Lord protects and saves the Saints. ||1||
ਐਸੇ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
Aisae Raakhanehaar Dhaeiaal ||
ऐसे राखनहार दइआल ॥
Such is the Merciful Lord, my Protector.
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जत कत देखउ तुम प्रतिपाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Wherever I look, I see You cherishing and nurturing. ||1||Pause||
ਜਲੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਖਾ ਮਿਟੰਤ ॥
Jal Peevath Jio Thikhaa Mittanth ||
जलु पीवत जिउ तिखा मिटंत ॥
As thirst is quenched by drinking water;
ਧਨ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਵਤ ਕੰਤ ॥
Dhhan Bigasai Grihi Aavath Kanth ||
धन बिगसै ग्रिहि आवत कंत ॥
As the bride blossoms forth when her husband comes home;
ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
Lobhee Kaa Dhhan Praan Adhhaar ||
लोभी का धनु प्राण अधारु ॥
As wealth is the support of the greedy person
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
Thio Har Jan Har Har Naam Piaar ||2||
तिउ हरि जन हरि हरि नाम पिआरु ॥२॥
- just so, the humble servant of the Lord loves the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
ਕਿਰਸਾਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
Kirasaanee Jio Raakhai Rakhavaalaa ||
किरसानी जिउ राखै रखवाला ॥
As the farmer protects his fields;
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
Maath Pithaa Dhaeiaa Jio Baalaa ||
मात पिता दइआ जिउ बाला ॥
As the mother and father show compassion to their child;
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
Preetham Dhaekh Preetham Mil Jaae ||
प्रीतमु देखि प्रीतमु मिलि जाइ ॥
As the lover merges on seeing the beloved;
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
Thio Har Jan Raakhai Kanth Laae ||3||
तिउ हरि जन राखै कंठि लाइ ॥३॥
Just so does the Lord hug His humble servant close in His Embrace. ||3||
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
Jio Andhhulae Paekhath Hoe Anandh ||
जिउ अंधुले पेखत होइ अनंद ॥
As the blind man is in ecstasy, when he can see again;
ਗੂੰਗਾ ਬਕਤ ਗਾਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਛੰਦ ॥
Goongaa Bakath Gaavai Bahu Shhandh ||
गूंगा बकत गावै बहु छंद ॥
And the mute, when he is able to speak and sing songs;
ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਪਰਬਤ ਪਰਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
Pingul Parabath Parathae Paar ||
पिंगुल परबत परते पारि ॥
And the cripple, being able to climb over the mountain
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
Har Kai Naam Sagal Oudhhaar ||4||
हरि कै नामि सगल उधारि ॥४॥
- just so, the Name of the Lord saves all. ||4||
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਵਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੀਤ ਕੋ ਨਾਸ ॥
Jio Paavak Sang Seeth Ko Naas ||
जिउ पावक संगि सीत को नास ॥
As cold is dispelled by fire,
ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
Aisae Praashhath Santhasang Binaas ||
ऐसे प्राछत संतसंगि बिनास ॥
Sins are driven out in the Society of the Saints.
ਜਿਉ ਸਾਬੁਨਿ ਕਾਪਰ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਤ ॥
Jio Saabun Kaapar Oojal Hoth ||
जिउ साबुनि कापर ऊजल होत ॥
As cloth is cleaned by soap,
ਨਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਸਭੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਖੋਤ ॥੫॥
Naam Japath Sabh Bhram Bho Khoth ||5||
नाम जपत सभु भ्रमु भउ खोत ॥५॥
Just so, by chanting the Naam, all doubts and fears are dispelled. ||5||
ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥
Jio Chakavee Sooraj Kee Aas ||
जिउ चकवी सूरज की आस ॥
As the chakvi bird longs for the sun,
ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
Jio Chaathrik Boondh Kee Piaas ||
जिउ चात्रिक बूंद की पिआस ॥
As the rainbird thirsts for the rain drop,
ਜਿਉ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
Jio Kurank Naadh Karan Samaanae ||
जिउ कुरंक नाद करन समाने ॥
As the deer's ears are attuned to the sound of the bell,
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ॥੬॥
Thio Har Naam Har Jan Manehi Sukhaanae ||6||
तिउ हरि नाम हरि जन मनहि सुखाने ॥६॥
The Lord's Name is pleasing to the mind of the Lord's humble servant. ||6||
