ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਸਾਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਾ ਸਦ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
Saajan Thaerae Charan Kee Hoe Rehaa Sadh Dhhoor ||
साजन तेरे चरन की होइ रहा सद धूरि ॥
O my Friend, I shall forever remain the dust of Your feet.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀਆ ਪੇਖਉ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੧॥

नानक सरणि तुहारीआ पेखउ सदा हजूरि ॥१॥

ਪਿਛਹੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਦੜਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਲੇਹਿ ॥
Pishhahu Raathee Sadharraa Naam Khasam Kaa Laehi ||
पिछहु राती सदड़ा नामु खसम का लेहि ॥
Those who receive the call in the last hours of the night, chant the Name of their Lord and Master.
ਖੇਮੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਾਇਚੇ ਦਿਸਨਿ ਰਥ ਪੀੜੇ ॥
Khaemae Shhathr Saraaeichae Dhisan Rathh Peerrae ||
खेमे छत्र सराइचे दिसनि रथ पीड़े ॥
Tents, canopies, pavilions and carriages are prepared and made ready for them.
ਜਿਨੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੧॥
Jinee Thaeraa Naam Dhhiaaeiaa Thin Ko Sadh Milae ||1||
जिनी तेरा नामु धिआइआ तिन कउ सदि मिले ॥१॥
You send out the call, Lord, to those who meditate on Your Name. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ ਮੈ ਕਰਮਹੀਣ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥
Baabaa Mai Karameheen Koorriaar ||
बाबा मै करमहीण कूड़िआर ॥
Father, I am unfortunate, a fraud.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਧਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Naam N Paaeiaa Thaeraa Andhhaa Bharam Bhoolaa Man Maeraa ||1|| Rehaao ||
नामु न पाइआ तेरा अंधा भरमि भूला मनु मेरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
I have not found Your Name; my mind is blind and deluded by doubt. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਪਰਫੁੜੇ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖੇ ਮਾਇ ॥
Saadh Keethae Dhukh Parafurrae Poorab Likhae Maae ||
साद कीते दुख परफुड़े पूरबि लिखे माइ ॥
I have enjoyed the tastes, and now my pains have come to fruition; such is my pre-ordained destiny, O my mother.
ਸੁਖ ਥੋੜੇ ਦੁਖ ਅਗਲੇ ਦੂਖੇ ਦੂਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥੨॥
Sukh Thhorrae Dhukh Agalae Dhookhae Dhookh Vihaae ||2||
सुख थोड़े दुख अगले दूखे दूखि विहाइ ॥२॥
Now my joys are few, and my pains are many. In utter agony, I pass my life. ||2||
ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੇਲੁ ॥
Vishhurriaa Kaa Kiaa Veeshhurrai Miliaa Kaa Kiaa Mael ||
विछुड़िआ का किआ वीछुड़ै मिलिआ का किआ मेलु ॥
What separation could be worse than separation from the Lord? For those who are united with Him, what other union can there be?
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਖੇਲੁ ॥੩॥
Saahib So Saalaaheeai Jin Kar Dhaekhiaa Khael ||3||
साहिबु सो सालाहीऐ जिनि करि देखिआ खेलु ॥३॥
Praise the Lord and Master, who, having created this play, beholds it. ||3||
ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਲਾਵੜਾ ਇਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਭੋਗ ॥
Sanjogee Maelaavarraa Ein Than Keethae Bhog ||
संजोगी मेलावड़ा इनि तनि कीते भोग ॥
By good destiny, this union comes about; this body enjoys its pleasures.
ਵਿਜੋਗੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥੪॥੧॥
Vijogee Mil Vishhurrae Naanak Bhee Sanjog ||4||1||
विजोगी मिलि विछुड़े नानक भी संजोग ॥४॥१॥
Those who have lost their destiny, suffer separation from this union. O Nanak, they may still be united once again! ||4||1||

Maaroo, First Mehl:
ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
Mil Maath Pithaa Pindd Kamaaeiaa ||
मिलि मात पिता पिंडु कमाइआ ॥
The union of the mother and father brings the body into being.
ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
Thin Karathai Laekh Likhaaeiaa ||
तिनि करतै लेखु लिखाइआ ॥
The Creator inscribes upon it the inscription of its destiny.
ਲਿਖੁ ਦਾਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Likh Dhaath Joth Vaddiaaee ||
लिखु दाति जोति वडिआई ॥
According to this inscription, gifts, light and glorious greatness are received.
ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੧॥
Mil Maaeiaa Surath Gavaaee ||1||
मिलि माइआ सुरति गवाई ॥१॥
Joining with Maya, the spiritual consciousness is lost. ||1||
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਰਸਹਿ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
Moorakh Man Kaahae Karasehi Maanaa ||
मूरख मन काहे करसहि माणा ॥
O foolish mind, why are you so proud?
ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Outh Chalanaa Khasamai Bhaanaa ||1|| Rehaao ||
उठि चलणा खसमै भाणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
You shall have to arise and depart when it pleases your Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||
ਤਜਿ ਸਾਦ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
Thaj Saadh Sehaj Sukh Hoee ||
तजि साद सहज सुखु होई ॥
Abandon the tastes of the world, and find intuitive peace.
ਘਰ ਛਡਣੇ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
Ghar Shhaddanae Rehai N Koee ||
घर छडणे रहै न कोई ॥
All must abandon their worldly homes; no one remains here forever.
ਕਿਛੁ ਖਾਜੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਧਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
Kishh Khaajai Kishh Dhhar Jaaeeai ||
किछु खाजै किछु धरि जाईऐ ॥
Eat some, and save the rest,
ਜੇ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਆਈਐ ॥੨॥
Jae Baahurr Dhuneeaa Aaeeai ||2||
जे बाहुड़ि दुनीआ आईऐ ॥२॥
If you are destined to return to the world again. ||2||
ਸਜੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਪਟੁ ਹਢਾਏ ॥
Saj Kaaeiaa Patt Hadtaaeae ||
सजु काइआ पटु हढाए ॥
He adorns his body and ress in silk robes.
ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
Furamaaeis Bahuth Chalaaeae ||
फुरमाइसि बहुतु चलाए ॥
He issues all sorts of commands.
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
Kar Saej Sukhaalee Sovai ||
करि सेज सुखाली सोवै ॥
Preparing his comfortable bed, he sleeps.
ਹਥੀ ਪਉਦੀ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਵੈ ॥੩॥
Hathhee Poudhee Kaahae Rovai ||3||
हथी पउदी काहे रोवै ॥३॥
When he falls into the hands of the Messenger of Death, what good does it do to cry out? ||3||
ਘਰ ਘੁੰਮਣਵਾਣੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
Ghar Ghunmanavaanee Bhaaee ||
घर घुमणवाणी भाई ॥
Household affairs are whirlpools of entanglements, O Siblings of Destiny.
