Vin Gur Peerai Ko Thhaae N Paaee ||
विणु गुर पीरै को थाइ न पाई ॥
Without the Guru or a spiritual teacher, no one is accepted.
ਰਾਹੁ ਦਸਾਇ ਓਥੈ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥
Raahu Dhasaae Outhhai Ko Jaae ||
राहु दसाइ ओथै को जाइ ॥
They may be shown the way, but only a few go there.
ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਭਿਸਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
Karanee Baajhahu Bhisath N Paae ||
करणी बाझहु भिसति न पाइ ॥
Without the karma of good actions, heaven is not attained.
ਜੋਗੀ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦਸਾਈ ॥
Jogee Kai Ghar Jugath Dhasaaee ||
जोगी कै घरि जुगति दसाई ॥
The Way of Yoga is demonstrated in the Yogi's monastery.
ਤਿਤੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕਨਿ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
Thith Kaaran Kan Mundhraa Paaee ||
तितु कारणि कनि मुंद्रा पाई ॥
They wear ear-rings to show the way.
ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਇ ਫਿਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
Mundhraa Paae Firai Sansaar ||
मुंद्रा पाइ फिरै संसारि ॥
Wearing ear-rings, they wander around the world.
ਜਿਥੈ ਕਿਥੈ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
Jithhai Kithhai Sirajanehaar ||
जिथै किथै सिरजणहारु ॥
The Creator Lord is everywhere.
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਵਾਟਾਊ ॥
Jaethae Jeea Thaethae Vaattaaoo ||
जेते जीअ तेते वाटाऊ ॥
There are as many travellers as there are beings.
ਚੀਰੀ ਆਈ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਕਾਊ ॥
Cheeree Aaee Dtil N Kaaoo ||
चीरी आई ढिल न काऊ ॥
When one's death warrant is issued, there is no delay.
ਏਥੈ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੁ ਜਾਇ ਸਿਞਾਣੈ ॥
Eaethhai Jaanai S Jaae Sinjaanai ||
एथै जाणै सु जाइ सिञाणै ॥
One who knows the Lord here, realizes Him there as well.
ਹੋਰੁ ਫਕੜੁ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੈ ॥
Hor Fakarr Hindhoo Musalamaanai ||
होरु फकड़ु हिंदू मुसलमाणै ॥
Others, whether Hindu or Muslim, are just babbling.
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Sabhanaa Kaa Dhar Laekhaa Hoe ||
सभना का दरि लेखा होइ ॥
Everyone's account is read in the Court of the Lord;
ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
Karanee Baajhahu Tharai N Koe ||
करणी बाझहु तरै न कोइ ॥
Without the karma of good actions, no one crosses over.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Sacho Sach Vakhaanai Koe ||
सचो सचु वखाणै कोइ ॥
One who speaks the True Name of the True Lord,
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਗੈ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

नानक अगै पुछ न होइ ॥२॥

हरि का मंदरु आखीऐ काइआ कोटु गड़ु ॥
The fortress of the body is called the Mansion of the Lord.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਲਾਲ ਜਵੇਹਰੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜੁ ॥
Andhar Laal Javaeharee Guramukh Har Naam Parr ||
अंदरि लाल जवेहरी गुरमुखि हरि नामु पड़ु ॥
The rubies and gems are found within it; the Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਅਤਿ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜੁ ॥
Har Kaa Mandhar Sareer Ath Sohanaa Har Har Naam Dhirr ||
हरि का मंदरु सरीरु अति सोहणा हरि हरि नामु दिड़ु ॥
The body, the Mansion of the Lord, is very beautiful, when the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is implanted deep within.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਤ ਕੜੁ ॥
Manamukh Aap Khuaaeian Maaeiaa Moh Nith Karr ||
मनमुख आपि खुआइअनु माइआ मोह नित कड़ु ॥
The self-willed manmukhs ruin themselves; they boil continuously in attachment to Maya.
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੧॥
Sabhanaa Saahib Eaek Hai Poorai Bhaag Paaeiaa Jaaee ||11||
सभना साहिबु एकु है पूरै भागि पाइआ जाई ॥११॥
The One Lord is the Master of all. He is found only by perfect destiny. ||11||

ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਜੰਤ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥
Naa Sath Dhukheeaa Naa Sath Sukheeaa Naa Sath Paanee Janth Firehi ||
ना सति दुखीआ ना सति सुखीआ ना सति पाणी जंत फिरहि ॥
There is no Truth in suffering, there is no Truth in comfort. There is no Truth in wandering like animals through the water.
ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਮੂੰਡ ਮੁਡਾਈ ਕੇਸੀ ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਪੜਿਆ ਦੇਸ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥
Naa Sath Moondd Muddaaee Kaesee Naa Sath Parriaa Dhaes Firehi ||
ना सति मूंड मुडाई केसी ना सति पड़िआ देस फिरहि ॥
There is no Truth in shaving one's head; there is no Truth is studying the scriptures or wandering in foreign lands.
ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਰੁਖੀ ਬਿਰਖੀ ਪਥਰ ਆਪੁ ਤਛਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਹਿ ॥
Naa Sath Rukhee Birakhee Pathhar Aap Thashhaavehi Dhukh Sehehi ||
ना सति रुखी बिरखी पथर आपु तछावहि दुख सहहि ॥
There is no Truth in trees, plants or stones, in mutilating oneself or suffering in pain.
ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਹਸਤੀ ਬਧੇ ਸੰਗਲ ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਗਾਈ ਘਾਹੁ ਚਰਹਿ ॥
Naa Sath Hasathee Badhhae Sangal Naa Sath Gaaee Ghaahu Charehi ||
ना सति हसती बधे संगल ना सति गाई घाहु चरहि ॥
There is no Truth in binding elephants in chains; there is no Truth in grazing cows.
ਜਿਸੁ ਹਥਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਜੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈ ॥
Jis Hathh Sidhh Dhaevai Jae Soee Jis No Dhaee This Aae Milai ||
जिसु हथि सिधि देवै जे सोई जिस नो देइ तिसु आइ मिलै ॥
He alone grants it, whose hands hold spritual perfection; he alone receives it, unto whom it is given.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵੈ ॥
Naanak Thaa Ko Milai Vaddaaee Jis Ghatt Bheethar Sabadh Ravai ||
नानक ता कउ मिलै वडाई जिसु घट भीतरि सबदु रवै ॥
O Nanak, he alone is blessed with glorious greatness, whose heart is filled with the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਉ ਸਭਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਖੁਆਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਹੈ ॥
Sabh Ghatt Maerae Ho Sabhanaa Andhar Jisehi Khuaaee This Koun Kehai ||
सभि घट मेरे हउ सभना अंदरि जिसहि खुआई तिसु कउणु कहै ॥
God says, all hearts are mine, and I am in all hearts. Who can explain this to one who is confused?
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਾ ਵਾਟੜੀ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ਕਉਣੁ ॥
Jisehi Dhikhaalaa Vaattarree Thisehi Bhulaavai Koun ||
जिसहि दिखाला वाटड़ी तिसहि भुलावै कउणु ॥
Who can confuse that being, unto whom I have shown the Way?
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ਪੰਧ ਸਿਰਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਕਉਣੁ ॥੧॥
Jisehi Bhulaaee Pandhh Sir Thisehi Dhikhaavai Koun ||1||
जिसहि भुलाई पंध सिरि तिसहि दिखावै कउणु ॥१॥
And who can show the Path to that being whom I have confused since the beginning of time? ||1||

First Mehl:
ਸੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਜੋ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
So Girehee Jo Nigrahu Karai ||
सो गिरही जो निग्रहु करै ॥
He alone is a householder, who restrains his passions
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਕਰੈ ॥
Jap Thap Sanjam Bheekhiaa Karai ||
जपु तपु संजमु भीखिआ करै ॥
And begs for meditation, austerity and self-discipline.
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥
Punn Dhaan Kaa Karae Sareer ||
पुंन दान का करे सरीरु ॥
He gives donations to charity with his body;
ਸੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਗੰਗਾ ਕਾ ਨੀਰੁ ॥
So Girehee Gangaa Kaa Neer ||
सो गिरही गंगा का नीरु ॥
Such a householder is as pure as the water of the Ganges.
ਬੋਲੈ ਈਸਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥
Bolai Eesar Sath Saroop ||
बोलै ईसरु सति सरूपु ॥
Says Eeshar, the Lord is the embodiment of Truth.
ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤ ਮਹਿ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੂਪੁ ॥੨॥
Param Thanth Mehi Raekh N Roop ||2||
परम तंत महि रेख न रूपु ॥२॥
The supreme essence of reality has no shape or form. ||2||

ਸੋ ਅਉਧੂਤੀ ਜੋ ਧੂਪੈ ਆਪੁ ॥
So Aoudhhoothee Jo Dhhoopai Aap ||
सो अउधूती जो धूपै आपु ॥
He alone is a detached hermit, who burns away his self-conceit.
ਭਿਖਿਆ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥
Bhikhiaa Bhojan Karai Santhaap ||
भिखिआ भोजनु करै संतापु ॥
He begs for suffering as his food.
ਅਉਹਠ ਪਟਣ ਮਹਿ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਕਰੈ ॥
Aouhath Pattan Mehi Bheekhiaa Karai ||
अउहठ पटण महि भीखिआ करै ॥
In the city of the heart, he begs for charity.
ਸੋ ਅਉਧੂਤੀ ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰਿ ਚੜੈ ॥
So Aoudhhoothee Siv Pur Charrai ||
सो अउधूती सिव पुरि चड़ै ॥
Such a renunciate ascends to the City of God.
ਬੋਲੈ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥
Bolai Gorakh Sath Saroop ||
बोलै गोरखु सति सरूपु ॥
Says Gorakh, God is the embodiment of Truth;
ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤ ਮਹਿ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੂਪੁ ॥੩॥

He alone is an Udasi, a shaven-headed renunciate, who embraces renunciation.
ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
Aradhh Ouradhh Karae Niranjan Vaas ||
अरध उरध करे निरंजन वासु ॥
He sees the Immaculate Lord dwelling in both the upper and lower regions.
ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਪਾਏ ਗੰਢਿ ॥
Chandh Sooraj Kee Paaeae Gandt ||
चंद सूरज की पाए गंढि ॥
He balances the sun and the moon energies.
ਤਿਸੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੜੈ ਨ ਕੰਧੁ ॥
This Oudhaasee Kaa Parrai N Kandhh ||
तिसु उदासी का पड़ै न कंधु ॥
The body-wall of such an Udasi does not collapse.
ਬੋਲੈ ਗੋਪੀ ਚੰਦੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥
Bolai Gopee Chandh Sath Saroop ||
बोलै गोपी चंदु सति सरूपु ॥
Says Gopi Chand, God is the embodiment of Truth;
ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤ ਮਹਿ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੂਪੁ ॥੪॥

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਜਾਲੇ ॥
Kaaeiaa Kee Agan Breham Parajaalae ||
काइआ की अगनि ब्रहमु परजाले ॥
The fire of his body illuminates God within.
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਝਰਣਾ ॥
Supanai Bindh N Dhaeee Jharanaa ||
सुपनै बिंदु न देई झरणा ॥
He does not waste his energy in wet dreams.
