Gauree, First Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝਿ ਲੇ ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
Gur Parasaadhee Boojh Lae Tho Hoe Nibaeraa ||
गुर परसादी बूझि ले तउ होइ निबेरा ॥
By Guru's Grace one comes to understand and then, the account is settled.
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਸੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
Ghar Ghar Naam Niranjanaa So Thaakur Maeraa ||1||
घरि घरि नामु निरंजना सो ठाकुरु मेरा ॥१॥
In each and every heart is the Name of the Immaculate Lord; He is my Lord and Master. ||1||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
Bin Gur Sabadh N Shhootteeai Dhaekhahu Veechaaraa ||
बिनु गुर सबद न छूटीऐ देखहु वीचारा ॥
Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, no one is emancipated. See this, and reflect upon it.
ਜੇ ਲਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jae Lakh Karam Kamaavehee Bin Gur Andhhiaaraa ||1|| Rehaao ||
जे लख करम कमावही बिनु गुर अंधिआरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Even though you may perform hundreds of thousands of rituals, without the Guru, there is only darkness. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਧੇ ਅਕਲੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
Andhhae Akalee Baaharae Kiaa Thin Sio Keheeai ||
अंधे अकली बाहरे किआ तिन सिउ कहीऐ ॥
What can you say, to one who is blind and without wisdom?
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੰਥੁ ਨ ਸੂਝਈ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਿਰਬਹੀਐ ॥੨॥
Bin Gur Panthh N Soojhee Kith Bidhh Nirabeheeai ||2||
बिनु गुर पंथु न सूझई कितु बिधि निरबहीऐ ॥२॥
Without the Guru, the Path cannot be seen. How can anyone proceed? ||2||
ਖੋਟੇ ਕਉ ਖਰਾ ਕਹੈ ਖਰੇ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
Khottae Ko Kharaa Kehai Kharae Saar N Jaanai ||
खोटे कउ खरा कहै खरे सार न जाणै ॥
He calls the counterfeit genuine, and does not know the value of the genuine.
ਅੰਧੇ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਵਿਡਾਣੈ ॥੩॥
Andhhae Kaa Naao Paarakhoo Kalee Kaal Viddaanai ||3||
अंधे का नाउ पारखू कली काल विडाणै ॥३॥
The blind man is known as an appraiser; this Dark Age of Kali Yuga is so strange! ||3||
ਸੂਤੇ ਕਉ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਕਹੈ ਜਾਗਤ ਕਉ ਸੂਤਾ ॥
Soothae Ko Jaagath Kehai Jaagath Ko Soothaa ||
सूते कउ जागतु कहै जागत कउ सूता ॥
The sleeper is said to be awake, and those who are awake are like sleepers.
ਜੀਵਤ ਕਉ ਮੂਆ ਕਹੈ ਮੂਏ ਨਹੀ ਰੋਤਾ ॥੪॥
Jeevath Ko Mooaa Kehai Mooeae Nehee Rothaa ||4||
जीवत कउ मूआ कहै मूए नही रोता ॥४॥
The living are said to be dead, and no one mourns for those who have died. ||4||
ਆਵਤ ਕਉ ਜਾਤਾ ਕਹੈ ਜਾਤੇ ਕਉ ਆਇਆ ॥
Aavath Ko Jaathaa Kehai Jaathae Ko Aaeiaa ||
आवत कउ जाता कहै जाते कउ आइआ ॥
One who is coming is said to be going, and one who is gone is said to have come.
ਪਰ ਕੀ ਕਉ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਹੈ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
Par Kee Ko Apunee Kehai Apuno Nehee Bhaaeiaa ||5||
पर की कउ अपुनी कहै अपुनो नही भाइआ ॥५॥
That which belongs to others, he calls his own, but he has no liking for that which is his. ||5||
ਮੀਠੇ ਕਉ ਕਉੜਾ ਕਹੈ ਕੜੂਏ ਕਉ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
Meethae Ko Kourraa Kehai Karrooeae Ko Meethaa ||
मीठे कउ कउड़ा कहै कड़ूए कउ मीठा ॥
That which is sweet is said to be bitter, and the bitter is said to be sweet.
ਰਾਤੇ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਐਸਾ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੬॥
Raathae Kee Nindhaa Karehi Aisaa Kal Mehi Ddeethaa ||6||
राते की निंदा करहि ऐसा कलि महि डीठा ॥६॥
One who is imbued with the Lord's Love is slandered - his is what I have seen in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||6||
ਚੇਰੀ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੀਸੈ ॥
Chaeree Kee Saevaa Karehi Thaakur Nehee Dheesai ||
चेरी की सेवा करहि ठाकुरु नही दीसै ॥
He serves the maid, and does not see his Lord and Master.
ਪੋਖਰੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਿਰੋਲੀਐ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਰੀਸੈ ॥੭॥
Pokhar Neer Viroleeai Maakhan Nehee Reesai ||7||
पोखरु नीरु विरोलीऐ माखनु नही रीसै ॥७॥
Churning the water in the pond, no butter is produced. ||7||
ਇਸੁ ਪਦ ਜੋ ਅਰਥਾਇ ਲੇਇ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
Eis Padh Jo Arathhaae Laee So Guroo Hamaaraa ||
इसु पद जो अरथाइ लेइ सो गुरू हमारा ॥
One who understands the meaning of this verse is my Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਚੀਨੈ ਆਪ ਕਉ ਸੋ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੮॥
Naanak Cheenai Aap Ko So Apar Apaaraa ||8||
नानक चीनै आप कउ सो अपर अपारा ॥८॥
O Nanak, one who knows his own self, is infinite and incomparable. ||8||
ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
Sabh Aapae Aap Varathadhaa Aapae Bharamaaeiaa ||
सभु आपे आपि वरतदा आपे भरमाइआ ॥
He Himself is All-pervading; He Himself misleads the people.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥੨॥੧੮॥
Gur Kirapaa Thae Boojheeai Sabh Breham Samaaeiaa ||9||2||18||
गुर किरपा ते बूझीऐ सभु ब्रहमु समाइआ ॥९॥२॥१८॥
By Guru's Grace, one comes to understand, that God is contained in all. ||9||2||18||

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
Man Kaa Soothak Dhoojaa Bhaao ||
मन का सूतकु दूजा भाउ ॥
The pollution of the mind is the love of duality.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਆਵਉ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥
Bharamae Bhoolae Aavo Jaao ||1||
भरमे भूले आवउ जाउ ॥१॥
Deluded by doubt, people come and go in reincarnation. ||1||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Manamukh Soothak Kabehi N Jaae ||
मनमुखि सूतकु कबहि न जाइ ॥
The pollution of the self-willed manmukhs will never go away,
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jichar Sabadh N Bheejai Har Kai Naae ||1|| Rehaao ||
जिचरु सबदि न भीजै हरि कै नाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
As long as they do not dwell on the Shabad, and the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭੋ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥
Sabho Soothak Jaethaa Mohu Aakaar ||
सभो सूतकु जेता मोहु आकारु ॥
All the created beings are contaminated by emotional attachment;
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੨॥
Mar Mar Janmai Vaaro Vaar ||2||
मरि मरि जमै वारो वार ॥२॥
They die and are reborn, only to die over and over again. ||2||
ਸੂਤਕੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਪਉਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Soothak Agan Pounai Paanee Maahi ||
सूतकु अगनि पउणै पाणी माहि ॥
Fire, air and water are polluted.
ਸੂਤਕੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
Soothak Bhojan Jaethaa Kishh Khaahi ||3||
सूतकु भोजनु जेता किछु खाहि ॥३॥
The food which is eaten is polluted. ||3||
ਸੂਤਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Soothak Karam N Poojaa Hoe ||
सूतकि करम न पूजा होइ ॥
The actions of those who do not worship the Lord are polluted.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
Naam Rathae Man Niramal Hoe ||4||
नामि रते मनु निरमलु होइ ॥४॥
Attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind becomes immaculate. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
Sathigur Saeviai Soothak Jaae ||
सतिगुरु सेविऐ सूतकु जाइ ॥
Serving the True Guru, pollution is eradicated,
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਨਮੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੫॥
Marai N Janamai Kaal N Khaae ||5||
मरै न जनमै कालु न खाइ ॥५॥
And then, one does not suffer death and rebirth, or get devoured by death. ||5||
ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੋਧਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
Saasath Sinmrith Sodhh Dhaekhahu Koe ||
सासत सिम्रिति सोधि देखहु कोइ ॥
You may study and examine the Shaastras and the Simritees,
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥
Vin Naavai Ko Mukath N Hoe ||6||
विणु नावै को मुकति न होइ ॥६॥
But without the Name, no one is liberated. ||6||
ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਤਮੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Jug Chaarae Naam Outham Sabadh Beechaar ||
जुग चारे नामु उतमु सबदु बीचारि ॥
Throughout the four ages, the Naam is the ultimate; reflect upon the Word of the Shabad.
ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੭॥
Kal Mehi Guramukh Outharas Paar ||7||
कलि महि गुरमुखि उतरसि पारि ॥७॥
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only the Gurmukhs cross over. ||7||
ਸਾਚਾ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
Saachaa Marai N Aavai Jaae ||
साचा मरै न आवै जाइ ॥
The True Lord does not die; He does not come or go.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੧॥
Naanak Guramukh Rehai Samaae ||8||1||
नानक गुरमुखि रहै समाइ ॥८॥१॥
O Nanak, the Gurmukh remains absorbed in the Lord. ||8||1||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
Guramukh Saevaa Praan Adhhaaraa ||
गुरमुखि सेवा प्रान अधारा ॥
Selfless service is the support of the breath of life of the Gurmukh.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਾ ॥
Har Jeeo Raakhahu Hiradhai Our Dhhaaraa ||
हरि जीउ राखहु हिरदै उर धारा ॥
Keep the Dear Lord enshrined in your heart.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਾਚ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੧॥
Guramukh Sobhaa Saach Dhuaaraa ||1||
गुरमुखि सोभा साच दुआरा ॥१॥
The Gurmukh is honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||1||
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਪੜੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Panddith Har Parr Thajahu Vikaaraa ||
पंडित हरि पड़ु तजहु विकारा ॥
O Pandit, O religious scholar, read about the Lord, and renounce your corrupt ways.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਉਤਰਹੁ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
